    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

I have had shit for insurance for the last few years, but I am up for being added to the new shop in 2 weeks. My Cobra, that I have carried on myself since I left the dealership in February has cost me $400 a month for what is essentially catastrophic coverage.. Nobody will touch me since my cancer, but I am outside of the 5 years next November and will be clear from the high risk, but thanks to Obamacare my premiums will still climb if I were to go independent. I have carried better insurance for my wife and last at home son with BC/BS. Over the past 2 years the rates have doubled for the 2 of them to $480. Their coverage will be jacked to nearly $1000. Their deductible of $1500 and 80/20 to $3000 per person or $5000 for the family will now jump to a $6500 and the girl could not tell us the max out of pocket, or percentages... seriously? So not only have the rates more than doubled, but our deductible has blown up over 300%. Fortunately my current employer will cover me 100%, but I pay ~$600 for the family. My deductible is $1500 and my family deductible is $3000. Affordable my fucking ass. Lick my balls Obama, and I hope I didn't wipe my ass well when you do.

Man stereotypes are great lol. It was not a stereotype. It was a no name food store in the poor Hispanic neighborhood in the town I work in, that is frequented by Hispanic patrons with WIC and "we accept EBT" all over the store.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

A buddy of mine bought me some cock flavored seasoning as a joke. It was in one of those welfare food stores frequented by Hispanics. We tried it for a goof. It is actually pretty good. My wife said that no my cock does not taste like that.

After a day in Mercedes training I have to reiterate... FUCK MERCEDES!!! On a positive note, Invisalign was running a conference at the same time as ATSE. It was awesome... hundreds of sexy ass dental assistants walking the convention center in casual clothing... tight pants, "spandex" like pants. There was one sexy ass little broad with a killer ass walking between conference rooms in both breaks of my classes (4 total breaks including mid-class and entry/exit of class)... I so badly wanted to jam my nose up her ass I can't even tell you... Sorry, time to rub one out...

Actually it is funny you ask. I have been researching the Kamodo style grills. Honestly the Kamodo Kamodo OTB is what I think I am going to jump on. The BGE has a stout following as it is one of the very first that went mainstream, but it has never changed over the course of it's popularity. The price is still up there and it is basically a non-optioned unit. Kamodo's OTB has seen changes, apparently for the better. The warranty coverage is better, the ceramic is a better insulator, and it has many of the same offerings as the BGE. My understanding is that manual control is easier, and it will maintain longer low temp situations than the BGE because of improved air flow control and better insulation. Take from that what you will, both units are top notch. Obviously each will have it's benefits and drawbacks and the BGE in it's current form has proven to be among the top 2 or 3 units for years now. Isn't the Komodo like $4k? I came close to getting it myself... The big Komodo is, but there is also a large BGE equivalent that is ~$800 Must be new, the OTB was about that when I was shopping. Did they make one without the tiles? Not that I know of, but don't quote me on that. Interesting, I figured with the tiles there was no way they could get the price down. I love the way they look. I told you not to quote me, motherfucker....

For those interested, WIKI has a strong article on CAN BUS data networks that I deal with at work. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN_bus

Meh, you wouldn't listen for one thing... and you can afford to fix it. I'd listen, may choose to just gamble once I have the info. Can afford and want to are two completely different things. Of course my luck tends to be the opposite of the norm. I buy a cheap to own vehicle and get raped a German luxo bomb and nothing goes wrong. Hoping my luck stays the same. By 2008 the ghosts that fucked the whole Porsche line were designed out of the Cayenne...but I know the maintenance is interesting beyond that. Popping the hood once shows that, lol. I guess I should also state that I don't like to offer advice on vehicles without a lot of personal hands on as well. Honestly, the Cayenne is one of very few vehicles I have never had my hands on. I personally like them, appointments, power, and appearance... I do find the interior a bit loud for my tastes as I am definitely more of a low key design guy (personally I didn't care for the 2 tone seats in my GN if that is an indication of my tastes, and that is not radical by any means), but the exterior has a nice subdued look. I have honestly found that the online bitching about vehicles is exaggerated by just a few owners unhappy with their vehicles, so I take that with a grain of salt.

There are several network protocols. CAN BUS is by far the fastest, and is the primary protocol for current vehicles. Some vehicles use CAN, CCD, or serial, others use combinations of the three. Some use a comb, or a splice pack where all data meets on a shared line, some use a central computer to receive and disburse data on the network, a central gateway computer to steal Chysler's term. Some run the data in a series line set, others use a parallel line set. Some use a combination of some or all of these types of data distribution. These systems are very complex, so training is incredibly valuable. The Porsche/VW use CAN don't they? Thought that is what I read. Of course my need is REALLY simple. I just want to translate the CAN signals coming from the steering wheel buttons into "key" presses. Was pretty sure I found a box to do that, but then walked away since I hadn't bought a car yet. Yeah, most will, the newer vehicles do. As far as steering wheel controls, I am sure there are. Older Buicks used serial data and there were available translators for them. Can is a much faster, lower voltage data transmission, with a lot more data transferring across the lines. While not as easy to translate, it is still possible...

Fuck Mercedes. I hate working on them. But their CAN networks are really advanced, and 2 classes are specifically on CAN networking, so I am hoping to pull a lot of info out of these classes. At my current shop I have been seeing a lot of network issues, and nobody here knows how to properly diagnose them, or more to the point the shop does not have the tooling required to do it very well. Fortunately I do have the equipment. I honestly have not worked at a shop where I have to pull out the scope every day, but here I can easily say it is in use 10 times a week or better. Admittedly I see more serial BUS and CCD BUS (CAN B) than CAN, but it is all somewhat related. We are staring to see more CAN failures in the aftermarket, as these cars are out of warranty now. But admittedly these systems rarely fail under warranty, so the dealers are not very well equipped to handle them. Network failures are big money, and being one of very few techs in this area with a lot of hands on makes it a winner for me. I foresee these failures as the next boom in my industry, and hopefully I can get back to seeing pre-9/11 money again, on the flat rate side... which also means a boost in my bonus schedule. I also have a Merc electronic brake system class and a J2534 class. I am looking forward to the J class, as it is currently the most common ECU architecture, but the brake class sounds fucking boring. Are there big differences in the CAN's? I was under the impression that there was one CAN bus being used. There are several network protocols. CAN BUS is by far the fastest, and is the primary protocol for current vehicles.
