That blows

I'll watch the videos later tonight, thanks. I am trying to learn about my glass needs, that is why I keep asking questions about it. I grabbed what I grabbed because I wanted to get an idea of how everything affects the final outcome of the shots. I got enough focal length adjustment to get that. I have played with my aperture enough to understand how it works, but being that my aperture is a bit steep, I don't get the full gist of it, I know. I asked about the various lenses (the 35, 50, and 85mm) because I want to know what will work best at close range. I don't quite know what focal length will work well with what aperture. When I find reasonably priced glass that is approaching what you guys suggest, I ask about it specifically. I am not ignoring, nor asking in half measures. I am just trying to understand this more. Many of the things that you and Matt are saying seem very contrary to what I am reading in many other places. I am having to weed out the inconsistencies by trying some hands on and develop some of my own decisions on what works for me. It may not be perfect, but if it makes me happy that is all I care about. I honestly appreciate all the advice and input, so keep it coming. Now that I have a body, I am figuring out how to make adjustments. I have never fucked with any real cameras before, so for me getting my hands on is a must. I know you guys like Canon, but I have made up my mind on the body. I like the feel and options of the Nikon. It fits well in my hands, albeit a bit small, but it is a crop, so I expect that. It feels better built, more substantial, yet it weighs a shade less. The Canon body is not for me. I am not opposed to adapting the Nikon body to suit Canon lenses, but I never got an answer as to which Canon mount affords the best image/dollar for crops. I have found several different adapters, I'm just not sure which to snag.

I like strikers for EDC. Mine is always ready. During cooler months I am not opposed to a mid sized 1911, cocked and locked in a shoulder holster.

A good friend of mine just lost his son. OD. This breaks what little heart I actually have.

Gotcha. I assume the 85/1.8 is decent because it is for further out, I assume? On that assumption the wider aperture is better for the closer shots of the 50mm. Am I getting that right?
-
Indoor implying closer shots. Perhaps. Why would it change which to buy? Didn't think about that.
-
35mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.8, or 85mm 1.8? Mostly indoor shots.

I'd go with 8, but you might be OK with 6. IMO you can't have too much light in a garage or workshop.
-
I like the T12s because I can get a contractor case of bulbs for under $50 at Lowes IIRC
-
Those are almost exactly like mine. I might look at the LED lights they offer for kitchens now, too. I saw a big ass 8 foot assembly for ~$110 that was wicked bright at Home Depot the other week.
-
I like them better. They can hum when it is cold outside, but it doesn't bother me when I am working outside. If you look you will see the light from the 4 footers is compact, where the 8 footers are more expansive.

36X16 FWIW, Neal.

I bought a couple of those for my wood shop. I don't really like them. I put up 3 dual 8 footers and just threw the 2 4 footers over my benches.

357 sig is impressive.
-
Yes it does. I wanted the long exposure so I could gather the light from the tubes, which don't glow as brightly as they appear. I just turned on and off a little hand light that I have in the hopes that it would make the plates and label somewhat visible. I tried various length of exposure to the light, and I just liked that one best. I wish that the KT88 did not rend a shadow on the plates, though.

Gimme a 40 in a subcompact any day. FWIW the 357 mag may be the single best handgun round available.
-
Yeah, not a fan of Glock triggers, myself. What safety? Did Glock start putting safeties on their pistols? I won't carry a striker with a safety, personally.

Too wide for her hands?

Try women, Peng...

F11, 30 sec in a black room F5.6, 30 sec, quick flash early in the exposure with an LED pocket light.
-
What do you guys photograph at? I have been shooting in fine mode but just shot some raw fine tonight. First image in a black room 30 seconds, with no manipulation. Second was same settings with a quick flash from a pocket LED light to try to gain some image of the tube detail... and photobucket goes down for maint while I am loading. I'll post tomorrow.

What does VR do to affect images? I don't have the slightest clue how it works. I have a cheesy $10 6 inch tripod right now, so I am limited.

I don't use White Balance I don't want a Canon.

I'll take one!
