    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Yeah, there coming just like when all the robbing, riots, and insane shit was going on with the case in ferguson. I do not know why some people do the shit they do; robbing, violent riots etc. Helps nothing, some people are just that fucking ignorant i guess. What is going on in NY? NYPD officer basically executed a guy and the grand jury refused to indict him. The fact that he was obese, had chronic asthma, hypertensive cardiovascular disease, resisted arrest while breaking the law as he was on probation were in no way responsible for this criminal's death, I am sure. And yes, he was told he was being detained, that is when he started to shrug off the officers attempting to do so. I love how people see small edited portions of police, hell, any person on person violence and assume the worst. There is so much that occurs outside the short piece of video tape that we see on TV. In this case the grand jury saw enough of that evidence that they felt it was not a chargeable situation. This dude was a walking heart attack. While the officer was overzealous, none of this would have occurred if the suspect were in better health, had not currently been breaking the law, had not currently been on probation, and had not resisted arrest. Why not point the finger at the offending party? You know... the criminal.

Punch is a 'lower end' stick. Good for a night of poker at a cheap casino, mowing the lawn, or giving to someone who doesn't usually smoke cigars. Not a bad brand, but not something I normally would purchase for myself. Glad you found yourself a good humidor. Do yourself a favor and buy a digital hygrometer. The analog ones are for more tempermental, harder to dial in to measure accurate humidity, and require more consistant calibration. Keep in mind pressure changes, house temp changes, and other factors can greatly swing your humidity. If you can find a cheap wine fridge, they make GREAT humidors with a little modification. J Honestly, I bought this humidor sampler so a coworker could have the humidor. The guy has 3 young kids, and likes to smoke cigars, but not a whole lot of cash. So I figured I'd get the sampler for me and give him the humidor. I may just pick up another, though.

Depends on which 3.1 is in it. Most of them are really fairly simple. I can't remember the VIN code on the motor that is a PITA (there are 3 3.1 VIN codes, one is a CA, another Fed, and a 3rd that uses a different front mount). If the front motor mount bracket is part of the cover it is a real fucking hassle, but other than a snug fit there isn't a huge amount of difference. Some of the older ones had an annoying horseshoe mount bracket that block the cover and it can be a bit of a bitch to get the bolts out of the side of the block, but I assume yours is newer than that... I am thinking that bracket was superseded around 95. In any case, I have seen that more than once. Sometimes the bolts that run into the water jacket get covered in a sludge that makes them had to get out. Even of they come out OK, I suggest taking a larger flat screw driver and reaming out the holes, as it will make it easier to get everything back together and aligned correctly. If the car has some miles on it, I might think about getting the speedy sleeve timing cover kit from Fel-Pro. It will have a sleeve that you press onto the balancer surface that rides on the front crank seal. You will need a balancer puller set, but I assume you have one. This balancer is pressed on and will not come off without one. When you go back together you will want a good sealer for the front rail on the oil pan. It is IMPERATIVE that this seal be effective, as you must remove the engine to do a pan gasket on this engine. There are main bearing cap bolts that go through the sides of the oil pan and into the block. You cannot remove the ones that are sandwiched between the tranny and engine without separating the 2. Cut the old gasket out, flush with the front of the block. Use a brand new razor, and do not disturb the seal between the pan and the block right behind the front cover lands. I like to use "Right Stuff" sealer you get from NAPA. You must ensure that the pan and cover mating surfaces are clean and dry... no oil, no water, no coolant... Use as much brake cleaner as possible and make sure it dries to a dull finish. Lay a decent bead on the surface of the pan, and also lay a decent bead on the front cover where it rests on the pan. Do your best to bring the cover in as far as possible and press down into the surface of the oil pan, so as not to push the silicone out. If you have over 150K I might consider a new timing chain. Oh yeah, be sure you unplug the cam sensor on the top of the cover before you pull it. Don't want to fuck that up either . I would set aside about 6-8 hours, if you are proficient. While not a hard job, it can be time consuming.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Tried a Punch Pita stick today. It came in my Sampler with the humidor. Honestly, I really like the humidor. The construction is really solid, the fit and finish is really impressive for an inexpensive unit. The hinges are smooth, and the glass top is really nice. When opened, even empty, it retains it's balance. The seal is impressive, and the analog hygrometer is a nice touch. I am prepping it for my coworker now, but it is honestly so nice I may grab another, as it will make a great smaller "often opened" humidor for my more frequent sticks and I'll use my nice one for my higher quality sticks to age. I got a 10 cigar sampler (worth ~$70-80) and the humidor for $39.95+ shipping. It arrived in 3 business days well packed for $45.68. The humidor lists for $39.95 on most online stores, and honestly I was shocked at the quality. I am also glad I got several sticks and various flavored options in it, so I can expand my repertoire. And I did manage to get a Gurhka Beauty and an Oliva "O" in this sampler, so I can give a try of the brands suggested by you fellas. The stick was not that bad. I paid almost nothing for it, although it retails for ~$5. I rather liked it. The construction was nice, it had a really nice draw, and was fairly robust. The stick smoked well down to the nub. I can't say it was amazing, or complex, but it was a really decent overall smoke. I'm not sure I can say that it is worth the $5, but in a sampler like I bought it really was a worthwhile stogie.

remove it I have a race cat on there, some how it magically went bad in less than 2 years and 8,000 miles. There is very little substrate in a race cat. Be expecting that annually. 2 years is real strong.

I'm envious. I would seriously sit back and enjoy 4oz with 2 cubes in a nice small snifter. I might enjoy it with a mild stogie, so the stick doesn't overpower the drink.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

I just finished the Arturo Fuente stick. I enjoyed it with an old fashioned. I think I really need to try stogies with an old fashioned. I love the blend of bourbon, orange bitter hints, and a good cigar. The flavor was extremely nice. It was mild, and tasted of a bit of pepper. Honestly, it is different from the smooth, complex Davidoffs I have really enjoyed thus far. The A. Fuente was not as complex or rich as the Davidoff, but it was really a great flavor for an every day smoke... but... I hated the draw. it was really tight. I understand that a perfecto is supposed to start with a snug draw, then open up... but it was hard to keep lit until I got past the restrictive tip. I felt the draw was too tight through the entire stick. I also found out what it means for a cigar to unravel. I had always assumed that it meant the cut end started to shred. I tend to get that as I like to chew the stick, and I always Guillotine. I don't like plugging or wedge cutting as the tar build up in the small opening is a turn off to me. But this stick started to boat, and then just opened up. It didn't split like it was dry, the wrapper just unwrapped! It was not a huge deal, but with all I have been learning about cigars (and believe me, I have been reading a shit ton on the cigar), this is a hand wrapped piece of art, and this is not acceptable. As I said, it is an artform. Yes, growth, aging and wrapping it, but also the process of smoking it. I have taken to looking the stick over. Look for a smooth wrapper that is consistent. Ensure there are no bulges, and you want to see a little oil being excreted so you know the humidity is right. Then you roll it in between your first 2 fingers and thumb, with modest pressure. You feel for hard spots or bulges. The wrapper should not crack or split (in this case, the wrapper made a cracking sound, and I did see a small split in the wrapper). The entire stick felt tighter than the Davidoffs. But I didn't know what it meant. Next, smell it. With the pressure the smell should open up. Interestingly the smell really does give you an idea of the flavor of the stick. Even as green as I am, I had a rough idea of the flavor profile by smelling it after adding pressure to it.Now you cut the end. There are 3 real cuts for a cigar, the guillotine (also a scissor cut), the wedge (a V shaped cut meant to expand the surface area of a smaller cigar) and the plug (a razor sharp hole is pushed into the end of the cigar, opening up just a small circular hole). For small sticks, the wedge works well, as it opens up more tobacco surface for a good draw. But for most sticks, this creates an odd surface area that builds up tar that gets in the mouth, souring the flavor of the cigar rather early. The plug does the same thing. There is so little opening that tar forms quickly. Plus, because of how the stick is wrapped, you limit your draw to the filler, not the flavorful binder and wrapper of the cigar. You limit the complexity of flavors by restricting the draw to the center of the stick. The guillotine is the preferred method. The crown of the stick (where it starts to reduce in size) gets cut at a slight angle. You should see that slight roll. This allows you to drag off the entire width of the cigar, providing a great flavor. Also, since the cigar cut is so broad, you see considerably less unsavory tar build up in one location. Finally, light it. Use a non-sulfur match, or a cedar stick. Keep it away from the stick, as direct flame does alter flavor. roll the stogie in your hand, allowing the entire end to be lit evenly. I am spending a ton of time researching the cigar, and I am growing to appreciate it more every day.
