Drone arrives tomorrow. I'm excited. Unfortunately the weather is unlikely to cooperate. From what I am reading this thing is super fast, super twitchy, not for indoor use at all. I may cruise it around the shop for shits and grins, though.
-
Yeah, that's exactly why I got the fuck out of the rust belt.
-
Drone will arrive by Tuesday. Damn. I was hoping to fly it this weekend.

I believe in the big bang. Thats why I have 40 kids.

Congrats, Broseph!

I know. Once you get past the guys in the video and really watch the Runner fly, it is crazy. I initially ordered the unit without the OSD. I got an e-mail really fast that they have the one with OSD in stock, but not the one without. They would fufil the order, but it would be a couple weeks before shipment. For $20 more they will ship the unit W/OSD next day. I will be needing the OSD eventually (need to learn to fly it line of sight before flying FPV), so I paid the extra $20

And reasonable. Are parts easily sourced? I am sure I'd CRASH Yep, super easy to find. You can grab a kit you assemble for ~160 (does not include radio, battery, charger, and a bunch of other stuff, but does include hard parts), or buy individual parts from multiple stateside vendors. Some vendors also offer crash insurance, with a $50-75 deductible. The 250 race quads are really gaining popularity because they are so cheap to build, and being so small they are more sturdy. Walkera has been early in the game offering the assembly. A couple parts sources for pricing. The first is the main distributor for Walkera in the US, the second is fairly local (ie super fast) for me. http://www.iuasinc.com/runner-250/ http://carolinadronz.com/collections/all/runner-250

When I got the Stihl blower (BR600) and the whip (fs90) I got a Stihl 362.... Slept on it, and decided I need/wanted more saw. Limbing sucks dick with a shorter bar. I went in to get a 441 or 461, but they didn't have the 441. So I picked up the 461 and the 661 and couldn't feel any weight difference. Longer bar capable, more power, bigger dogs, and garunteed to make my balls drop more... so I came home with the 661 for only $100 more than one of the 4xx saws. So happy. Not fun to cut shoulder height limbs, but when I start bucking it will be fanfuckingtastic. Felling, ground limbing, and bucking will be 99.999999% of what I do so I'm fucking amped. My shoulders and upper back are on fire tonight however. :-) Out of shape. More dead lifts are in order I think. Sweet. Great acquisition. Just deadlift that hoss of a saw.

Nice saw Matt! When did you get that? I have an old 40+ year old Stihl that was my grandfathers. Still runs like a damn champ. That saw will treat you well for a long time.

That looks fucking sick. Do I even want to know how much... Super reasonable. Drone, charger, battery, camera, transistor, and OSD (effectively a GPS tracker) for just a shade under $300. http://shop.dronecyclone.com/collections/drone-uavs/products/walkera-runner-250-fpv-racing-drone-quadcopter-quadrotor-uav-without-vr-fpv-goggles?variant=3577652673

I hope so. I am sure it will be frustrating at first, as there is very little user assistance, but I'm patient.

Nice seth!! How many windows are you going to peep in with that thing? I have a couple in mind... and with a 1 mile range, I may find a few more!

I pulled the trigger. With the radio Very reasonable for a completely modular FPV 250 class (~250mm/9 inch) racing drone. True carbon fiber, monsterous 40+ MPH speeds out of the box, with slight firmware tweeks on the remote people are claiming 60MPH

So I go to the local hobby shop and look at drones. Lots of cool big pretty drones and even super tiny ones. I'm ready to chuck down about $500 on this beautiful rig... I saw shiny, carbon fiber, mean looking motherfucker and had dreams of dropping bombs on Isis from my bed room. I had this amazing controller in my hand and drool running out of my beard. The dude behind the counter started asking me questions, and was WAY the fuck over my head. He says, "You're pretty new at this, aren't you?". So I was found out. He showed me several more entry level units, but I kept going back to the carbon fiber demon sitting on the shelf just waiting for me to assemble it. He even steered me away from a camera. What the fuck? Sorry, but you may think you sound smart telling me I need to learn how to fly before worrying about cameras and leading me to the sub $100 units while Isis is running around free because you are leading me away from my stealth bomber over there. So to make a long story short, I still wanted nicer than he suggested, but I went ahead and grabbed an Ares Ethos QX130. While it was nowhere near as awesome as Tiamat over there, I saw he was thinking of ways to keep me from bombing his fellow camel jockey, suicide bombing, brethren. That's OK, I have an Amazon Visa card. Of course, I am awesome and don't need to read a manual. I just plugged in the battery and charged it up, dropped that bitch in the unit and brought it outside. It spools up fast, and it was off the ground in a flash. As soon as it was off the ground, I got nervous as it pitched, and jerked the throttle down and towards me, causing it to lurch, spin, and smash headlong into the ground. After ~15 attempts at launching I got her flying like a sexy mug. Up, up, up, up... holy shit, how do I slow this down? Spinning, diving, lurching, heading toward power lines, trees... Almost out of view. I was getting a bit more comfortable, but there is a lot more to flying this thing than I thought. So I brought it in and out a few times. It flies a lot further than I thought. So, cockbreath here decides to try to be tricky. I burst up in the air off the ground and slam the trim back... oops, it was facing me when it took off, so it flies backwards into a power line and smashes into a big, bushy, evergreen. Oh yeah... about 40 feet off the ground. Can I get her out? Nope. 5 minutes of flying led to 1 hour of trying to get my ass up the tree, throwing bottles of water (there are now almost a dozen bottles stuck in the tree) before finally thinking about using one of my pool nets to knock it out of the tree. I am covered with sweat, blood, needles, small branches and twigs, and shame. Glad I didn't buy that B1 bomber... I think Isis might have survived my first flight, but I might not have.

Not that I know of I'd use the hedge trimmer for trimming the trees. Put it on the long shaft extension and you have a 9 foot hedge trimmer. Auto feed or tap feed? Stihl offers both. I like the fixed head so far.
-
That is the guard and the cutter. You can see how far the guard protrudes down over the standard string cutter guard. That is the fix cut trimmer head on the shaft. It is my favorite of the 3 heads I have.
-
Yeah. I grabbed the 4 blade cutter head straight shaft accessory. It is a fucking monster. But it is a brush cutter, not a grass cutter. It will tear grass to shreds rather than cut it cleanly. I have a tree out back that constantly grows shoots out of the ground. I usually hack them down with a chainsaw 2 times a year. I will see shoots anywhere from 1/2 inch to an inch in diameter. The 4 blade tore through it easily. You will want to get the appropriate guard for it. When I bought my unit I grabbed the straight shaft string trimmer attachment and the 4 blade cutter head, as well as a couple different string heads. My salesman told me that he suggested I buy the straight shaft cutter and the string heads. The cost was exactly the same, but the brush cutter shaft had an extra guard on it. Apparently if you have the blade rolling full steam and hit a rock it can break apart and the shrapnel can be dangerous. Like I said, my cost was exactly the same, so it wasn't like he gained anything from selling it like that, so I went the safe route. You can grab the brush cutter guard from your dealer to throw on the string trimmer shaft.

Gonna grab a drone, but a toy grade drone, not a super high end drone. I'm hoping someone here can help lead me in the right direction. Why? I just want to play a bit. It will be nice to fly over my fields and look for foxes, coyotes, rabbits, etc to see if it is worth packing up my gun to go shoot. And because they offer cool views. Goals; Wind resistance, ease of use, I prefer headless mode to learn with, but that is not a game changer and it is not available on the unit that currently tops my list. I prefer the radio to be mode 2. I want small and quiet, as I will be looking for game with it. I want minimum of 60 meter range, and I need a decent video camera. I don't care about FPV, but I think that would be a cool feature. I want to keep my first unit under $200... in fact, I prefer under $150. Any suggestions?

Make her a salad and the rest of the fam something else I'll toss her salad, but I am not a fucking rabbit. Give me red meat, dripping with grease and cheese!

Sean, you are going to have to pull a few to find out. Pay attention to your wall. The wall is the point where the cams stop you from drawing any further. A good shop should be able to get you fitted really well. Matt, I'm just not all balls to the wall Matthews. One of my really good friends has Matthews Creed. It's OK, but meh... I think it's ugly. FWIW, I can outshoot him with my old bow, mine is just as quiet, and my draw cycle is better with better let off. I have shot a bunch of bows. I have enjoyed something from many manufacturers. I suggest going in with an open mind and not pigeon holding yourself with any one manufacturer.

exactly what I am starting with a bow.... I would hate to try to find a bow with your draw length. Your options will be extremely limited. For Deer and bird a shotgun makes sense, although if you can use rifle, I prefer a rifle all day over a shotgun for big game. In Southern NY we used to have to use shotgun, although that has finally changed. I had 3 shotgun for hunting. For Deer, I had an Ithaca Model 37 Deerslayer. The Model 37 was THE choice for law enforcement for decades. It's 100% reliable action, with a bottom feed, bottom eject made it perfect for moving through houses side by side. My deer gun was scoped. It was my grandfather's shotgun, he bought it brand new, drilled and tapped, scoped and slung in 1956 for $87. I still have the receipt! My bird guns were a Remmy Model 870, in 12 Ga and a 20Ga later model Ithaca 37. I very rarely used the Remmy, as I love the Ithaca action. If you want a rifle, which I suggest, it will depend on what you want as a budget. I love Savage model 12s for out of the box accuracy. I love my Tikka T3 Hunter in 270WSM. It will easily take any big whitetail up your way. It is no problem to drop sheep from 400 yards, mulies from 5, so no issue with whitetail, no matter how big. It is fairly inexpensive to shoot, it won't blow your shoulder out every time you shoot it, and it will be very fast, very accurate, and very deadly. If you want to spend a little more, Kimber or Sako will provide great rifles for $1-2K. For optics, Nightforce SHV, Vortex PST for glass. My Savage Model 12, with Vortex Optics My Model 12 and my son's Model 11 in .243 I am harvesting more than hunting. Doing it with a bow just sounds exciting. If I like that then I'd get a gun. Bow season is forever long here though and I have relatives that have plenty of perfect land near corn fields. Primarily I want something to dick around and shoot the carp I see near our dock. I can also setup an archery "range" in my back yard but would have to drive to shoot a gun. I shoot bow too. Your problem is going to be draw length. I have a long draw (31.5 inches) which limits my choices, but you may be limited to custom or traditional archery. I also have a traditional bow, but I never really enjoyed it. It is a Kassai Mongolian Horse bow. It is really nice, all leather wrapped with traditional wooden arrows with real feather fletches. By the Cabela's calculator I pull a 32". Wingspan / 2.5 which I am sure is a general rule of thumb that doesn't work. My wingspan is 6'8" Not as bad as I thought, actually. I think Bowtech has a 32" draw bow.

I'm thinking about buying some land in Southern NY for hunting and vacationing. But I refuse to work on those rust bucket fucking cars, so I'll stick to residing here.
