Ok, lay some knowledge on me. Why did changing out to a synchro belt in your system cause main bearing failures if the belt was properly done? I have about diddly squat experience with synchro belts. In our case we are starting large vacuume fans and with a synchro belt you can not slip or you rip the teeth off, there for the belt tension is what kills the bearings. One synchro belt that is 3.5" wide replace 10 v belts which are on a pulley that is 12 or 13" wide that allow a little slip on start up and require way less tension. The synchro drive has its place just does not work for our process. 10 v belts, gawd damn. That is a big damn vacuum fan. We use a lot of process vacuum and need to pull up to 65 inches in some areas of the process. 65 inches? That is 35 inches below the boiling point of water. We draw 29 inches and are happy with moisture elimination... 30 is a dream! Wow, where do you live? If I don't turn that in 3 days I won't take the job.

In fact, based on the maturity you display in your posts I would dare say my youngest is older then you. It is simply the back lighting for the screen. LCD is basically lit by an incandescent bulb, where LED is backlit by LED. LED runs cooler, and brighter then incandescent bulbs. It allows for more sharpness, and brightness. This is beneficial in a bright room, but not so much for a lighting controlled room.

I wrote a paper a couple years back on Plasma vs LCD/LED TVs. While some aspects have changed, the basis in fact is still the same. I will copy it here. The question is always apt to arise in any home theater forum, so i will start with... LCD or Plasma? Let's discuss motion blur: Motion blur is the effect caused by a delay between picture frames. LCDs were built for single still images (which is why they don't suffer from image burn), and therefore that is what they produce... single still images. This is why motion blur is an issue for them. In order to be used for a moving picture they have to "refresh" their image, or they need to put a new image up on the screen. Hence the term "refresh rate". Now, why did we never have to worry about refresh rates with CRTs? CRTs were developed for moving pictures, and used phosphor, an ever changing, ever moving substance, which sustains the glow after being excited for a period of time. So there is no hesitation between frames. Plasmas perform similarly, using phosphor as well. While LCDs were not designed for motion picture, plasma was. So the reason we don't see refresh rate listings on plasmas, is because they don't need to refresh, they are an ever changing picture. Now, phosphor is the element that causes "burn in" so long pause times can create issues just like CRTs. BUT!!! CRT is less likely to burn in then plasmas. However, today's plasma manufacturers realize this is an issue, so they have inputted certain protection devices like pixel shift, etc. that help to reduce burn in. Let's discuss in room lighting: LCDs are far more forgiving in bright light situations. Plasmas require glass screens, and of course glass reflects light. LCDs are capable of functioning through a diffuser, so the surface is not as reflective. Plasmas do require a more controlled lighting situation. Finally, let's discuss our resolution: While a high resolution is desirable, in many cases they really are not necessary. For smaller TVs (I would say up to about 42-45 inch) 720 is perfectly fine. My son has a 40 inch 720 in his room, and there is no issue with PQ. Now, if you go into the family room, with the 50 inch TV, 1080 is really pretty much a requirement. low definition is not a pleasant experience at all on such a big TV. So I would suggest you base the resolution on the screen size. LEDs are basically LCDs using LED backlighting. But they definitely are superior to their standard backlit counterparts. Heat is a TV killer. The vast majority of flat screen failures is due to heat build up. The components are all jammed really tight into a narrow case and they simply cannot get rid of the heat fast enough. If the mfgs cooled the units better, we could expect to see them last beyond 5 years. According to my buddy, the TV repair guy, about 95% of the failures he sees are due specifically to heat issues, not manufacturer defects, cheap components, or poor handling/abuse by the consumer. But, don't expect to see the manufacturers try to cool the cases down. They expect the units to fail within 3-5 years, just outside most extended warranty periods, and far outside most Mfg. standard warranties. LEDs do work on a very low current, and therefore a low temperature model when compared to LCD backlighting, which generates heat, and the phosphorescence in plasmas, which build heat. Also, keep in mind, that heat is a loss of energy, or a reduction in efficiency. So by default, LEDs are also going to be more efficient. My understanding is that the LEDs also make for deeper blacks then LCD (although not as deep as Plasma), and LEDs still do have the major issue of refresh rates. Remember, an LED TV is really just an LCD using LED backlighting. I know that they produce 240Hz and greater units to eliminate motion blur, but I hate to be the one to break it to you, there are no sources capable of reaching these refresh rates. IIRC 120Hz is the best thing going right now. So you still gain the benefits of phosphorescence just being better for motion images. I am not trying to take away from LED TVS, as i don't really have a lot of time messing with them, and I know that in a showroom with lighting, LEDs look amazing. But just based on how the image is produced, i think simply because of signal transfer that plasma is still better in this regard. But, with regards to light weight, low heat, greater efficiency, longer life, and performance in poorly controlled lighting in rooms, LED is definitely a winner. Someone argued with me about his LED producing better blacks then any plasma he had seen, so I figured I would add my little reply. Meh, I am just stating facts. You can search all you want for objective comparisons and see that plasmas have greater contrast ratios and better blacks, simply due to how they function. Subjectively, perhaps your LED is set up better, perhaps it does better in the room's lighting conditions or perhaps because of the color of your walls and plasma's reflectivity, there are many reasons why it would appear to you to be better, but objectively plasmas win the black level battle, simply by design. You can't manipulate physics. Each design has it's own drawbacks, however. You simply cannot have the very best of everything. There are certain compromises between all things, it is just up to the user to make an informed decision.

Plasmas are more expensive per square inch. Plasmas also offer a much better contrast ratios, and black levels (which are of course related to one another). Plasmas do have issues when brightness is boosted, thanks to their contrast ratios. Plasma's off axis viewing differences compared to LCD are better, compared to LED they are not quite as good. But the difference is negligible. In fact, all 3 are better then CRT TVs, so IMHO it is a moot point. I prefer plasmas. IMO purity is more important then brightness. I use Avia for my TV set ups, so I deal with my brightness/contrast issues correctly, where many tend to reduce contrast and increase brightness based on personal tastes. But I do control lighting in my rooms, while many do not. I can argue a million reasons why plasma is better. I personally prefer them. But, similarly, many can argue why LED is better. IMO LCD is too far behind to even be considered in this debate. The technology is played out. The bottom line is, you need to decide what fit's your viewing environment better. If I were unable, or unwilling, to control lighting I would likely select LED simply based on the environment. If I were a purist, I would be all over plasma, and deal with lighting afterwards. FWIW the KURO displays were some of the finest in the world. However, KURO is no longer made by Pioneer. They are currently outsourced, and no where near the display they used to be. IMO for sub $5K displays, Samsung is impossible to beat.

Get some blinds, or tin-foil the windows. We've been pretty happy with our latest Panasonic. Haven't had any issues. I agree with the lighting, and Panny being a nice TV. Must have darkness/light control for big TVs. We had special blinds made for our living room so we could darken the room. I prefer plasma, but if lighting is a concern then steer clear of glass faced plasmas. Panny Viera and Samsung TVs are really extremely reliable (I have a buddy who fixes TVs, and he recommends Panny and Sammy) and have fantastic pictures. Look for beefy refresh rates (400Hz or better if you are looking at LCD/LED, but plasma refresh rates are just a sales pitch as they do not refresh), and at that size at least a 1080p.

We advertise everywhere and do all the parades. It is funny how disappointed people are when we are not in a parade or local event. We have a few haunts that all are owned by the same people, they're alright They use old abandoned warehouses down in the West Bottoms of Kansas, City. with epic slides that go from the top floor 4-5 stories up down the the bottom floor. Only complaint they are EXPENSIVE! 25-30$ each for around an hour haunt. Well if things continue this way for us we will be beyond epic next year. Our prices are cheap $10 and $15. Seriously? They range from $28-30 right in our area... plus parking. We took our road trip to the Snow Camp Haunt last night. It was $20, and there was no fee for parking. The props and spooks were better then any of the local haunts, by a good margin (which you would expect because the owners are special effects artists in Hollyweird). They had it set up with more nooks and crannies that allowed for more scares then anywhere else locally. But it was definitely a lot shorter then the other local haunts. Only about 30 minutes, compared to 45 minutes to an hour. We talked about heading up your way for the haunt next year, Neal. We will likely trek up on a Friday, and when done make our way to Western NY.

So Sean, was it Double Oaked, and did you enjoy it? I hope you had it on the rocks. I have turned several people on to whiskey because of the WRDO. My brown sugar was a vodka drinker, until I turned her on to it. Another very notable switch was a fella who didn't drink liquor, he is a home brewer and a wine drinker... He tried a sip to be nice, then asked for 3 more drinks... he now always has Double Oaked. I have flipped several other whiskey drinkers as well. It is so smooth and tasty. I am just interested in your opinion on my favorite whiskey.

I hate the attitude of German engineers. If you work on their cars they force you through "guided fault finding". Basically they tell you to go to a certain "measuring block" or location on the scan tool. It is numbered, not labeled, so you have no idea what you are looking at, and they never give any indication to what you are reading. You may see, "go to cell 1, block 8/3. The reading should be between 75 and 100. If not replace item 1UA4". Why can't they tell me to look at the coolant temp sensor and determine if it is running at normal operating temp (from 75 to 100 Celsius)? Then let me decide if I should replace the coolant temp sensor, thermostat, or whatever other part of the cooling system that may set this code rather than throwing a coolant temp sender at it? Not every tech is a total fucking moron. Some of us can actually look at, understand, and interpret data... and surprisingly some of us can actually fix cars if the information is provided to us. Assholes.

I have been very pleased with my lappy. It takes a lot of abuse (I use it at work, on side jobs, and at home, so it runs for 18 hours a day, very easily, in harsh environments. I am exceptionally pleased with the bourbon, it is my favorite sub $200 bottle of whiskey, honestly. At $50 a bottle it is impossible to beat.

Ford v6 or Buick v6? The Ford 3.8 is pretty much a copy of the Buick 3.8. No offense, but not even close. The 3.8 Ford is a terribly unreliable motor. The 3.8 Buick is, by all accounts, one of the most reliable gasoline engines of all time. The Buick 3.8 is very reliable, I will agree with you there having owned several myself. I will disagree with you on the reliability of the Ford 3.8, again having owned several myself, with two of them nearing 300K and never doing anything than routine maintenance. As for them being alike, there was an article in Popular Hot Rodding many moons ago about this and they had drawings showing the architecture of both and a former Ford engineer comfirming they had pretty much copied the Buick. I will attempt to find this when I have some time. By contrast, I have had to replace 1 stock 3800 Buick motor (and it was so terribly sludged up due to lack of maintenance that the crankshaft had sliced slots in the sludge caked in the pan) and never saw another one done. I bet I haven't seen 5 head gaskets blown on them. Now, they do have their issues, I won't deny that. But with regards to major internals, no issues. I was stunned when I tore the rod out of my first 3.8 Ford. The I beam was tiny, no wonder it pretzeled. I am actually surprised I have not seen more bent then I have, Interesting. As far as similarity, I was not speaking about rotating assemblies. Ford has pretty much always sucked there, aside from a few good forged components on certain performance vehicles. I know the 3.8 SC cars got beefy rods and oil squirters. I am surprised to see the rods bent due to them being powdered metal. I would think they would break before bending. I have read about them breaking (If you look at the Jasper Bulletin it is titled "breaking") but I have never seen it. The intake gasket will pop, leaking into the front 2 cylinders, and when you go to crank it the rod just lets go. By contrast the GMs with intake leaks will just hydrolock it.
