im 6'3" so my seat has to stay back or ill be eating the stering wheel...

^this^ Damn near anything in the proper install should be loud as shit inside that tiny cabin. Honestly, your old pair of L7s could have gotten you very close to 150 db, if not over it. In those trucks, a pair of 15s, subs up port up on around 2k will have your truck flapping like you want and easily in the upper 40s. If you want an ugly monster of a box firing forward you ought to just wall it off properly. i dont have enough room between the back wall and the back of my seat for 15's. i have a max of 15 1/2"s of room there.

This. Why anyone would base their decision off some video is beyond me, but whatever floats your boat. im not basing my purchas off videos...... im saying look at the flex of what 1 ssd can do. thats all man
-
well heres a video of 1 fi ssd 15 and its flexxing things like crazy
-
Then you need to buy some Kickers. Makes sense. replace the l5's in this video for 2 15" fi ssd's and thats exactally what im goin for haha
-
here is what i want my box to look like with the 15's.
-
im not missing them, there just not very strong. my sub sounds the best on the song 2 step remix. im not sure what Hx it is but its CRAZY loud and here is a vid. of what i want my box to look like with the 15's....

ok. as most of u know i have my 1 12" orion hcca in a nice custom ported box. and i love it. BUT my 1 12 doesnt sound like the good ol way 15's sound. and we all know how 15's sound. low and powerful. latley, i have been eyeballing the sundown audio SA 15's. i would do 2 on 1800 watts and possibly build a wall in my ranger for them. i havent completly decided. what do u all think???? should i stick with my 1 12, or go for the 2 15's???? i have a feeling that my 1 12 will be louder but it dont have the hard hitting that 2 15's would. WHAT TO DOOO
-
well i either try and build a new box for my hcca, or i just sell my hcca and get the 15's
-
so in ur opinion (stefanhinote only) is the fi ssd or the AA arsenel better? i have so many option here... like i just seen that there is a fi x for $120 a piece. i could do 4 of those lol and i already have a box thats made for 4 12's sealed
-
to be honest, i didnt think the ssd's would get any votes. but they have got them all so far haha. none for the SA 15's?? Wait ten minutes and someone will say re, sundown, and so forth. Its all about personal opinion and preference. All the fi products I have heard and used have been awesome, ssd is a solid driver made by an american company, what's not to love? There was a topic posted a few months ago, abuse/spl tested multiple mid level drivers, I believe the ssd yielded the most output, handeled more power then others, and its designed for sq not numbers. Says a lot... ya. u know i love my made in usa products haha. ill see how this all plays out here and go from there. the fi ssd's are $40 cheaper than the SA 15's too o_0 haha. every penny counts
-
No where near enough room. i could do 2 4CF sealed boxes for them. they only call for 3.5 lol it was just a idea

or do i get risky and go for 2 18" fi SSD's??? o_0 lol
-
i have a ford ext. cab ranger so there isnt too much room. i had a Fi BTL fully loaded 18 but the box it needed to sound right was too big for my truck. thats y im wanting 2 15's. iv been eyeballin the sundown SA 15's.... and i will only have around $450 to spend on 2 subs max.

the specs are... 30 1/2"L 17"tall 15" deep. and all walls are double thick mdf so each wall is 1.5" thich Need to know tuning too. There's also no reason to double up the walls. Just proper bracing and a double baffle. For future reference. Either way from what you're describing it's creating a peaky response. At least that's what I'm assuming when you say they don't "dig deep" or whatever. i mean it hits good and does get low. BUT i love the way 15's get low and my 12 just dont have it. i may try and copy the dimensions of this box but try doing a bigger port and lower tuning. he said it was tuned @38Hz

i just paid $175 for this one :/ it sounds good and loud. but i know 2 15's will have a better low end and the initial hit of a beat will be harder. thats what im looking for. For the LAST time thinking a fifteen will have better low end is not correct. The box will play a large part in how low the sub will play. Also if by "the initial hit of a beat will be harder" means louder, then yes two fifteens will be louder than one twelve if they are setup properly. Wellllll....as misinformed as he may be, when you learn from experience you discover things and make rules for yourself. Say you have a setup with a 12. Switch to a 15 (on the same amp/power) and 8 times out of 10 it'll be louder. The 15 will sound different, (due to more factors than it simply BEING a 15, diggity dur. Hell you can aim the box in a different direction and it will sound different.) so yeah the size does change the sound, mainly the output due to displacement, which is where he's getting the "better low end" from. The box is more important yeah, but a 12 in an optimal box will NEVER be as loud as a 15 in an optimal box off of the same power. Common sense. To Lantz, get someone to design you a good box and build it. It might make a world of difference for minimal cost. Then when that isn't enough buy another and make a matching box. Forget the 15's, more power and cone will make you happy i dont have the cash flow for another hcca, box and amp lol. if i could, id love to have another hcca 12 and amp but for right now, the money just isnt there. i can get $400 out of my hcca right now on my local craigslist. people around where i live love hcca's and mtx 9500's. so if i sold that, i would onlt need another $60 for 2 SA 15's but id have to build my own box which will probably be sealed. i built 2 ported boxes for my 9500's and they turned out great BUT i used mtx's specs and it had the mesurments for every side and port so all i had to do was cut out the wood. i dont see that for the SA's which is fine but i know very little about building a custom box.

im not arguing..... im telling u from my point of view i guess u could say. from my past experiences... thats all

x2, some great advice im just using what i know from my previous set-ups and experience with 12's and 15's. for all my past experiences, this 1 12 is louder than all my 15" set-ups. thats what im trying to say lol. Bad installs. the 2 L7 15's i had were in there recommended ported enclosure with about 900 watts going to each.....

+1 unless you royally eff something up. idk. this hcca is louder than the 2 15" kicker l7's i had befor. its alot louder than u think.... lol Ok my man. i want to make the switch, BUT i dread going through the whole process of selling my hcca, buying those, building some boxes and wall..... What are you trying to achieve? A properly setup 12 vs 15 sq will not be any different, 15's don't have a "more powerful" sound. have u ever been in a truck with subs? its a huge difference between trucks and cars when it comes to subs.... atleast thats what i think

Honestly you need to rebuild that box and give yourself some more port area before buying more equipment. If the HCCA doesnt cut it after the new box, then upgrade your equipment. no i think my 1 12 is louder, but it doesnt have the deep low pounding that 2 15's do.

or do i save up another $800 for another hcca 12 and box with amp????
