We cannot fit a port in Sean's vehicle to tune that low -- so no you won't see 28-30 Hz tuning in there. You can tune to 35 and be more than good for rock / metal.

    SA-8 Tuned to 37 Hz - Video

We rotated the box a bit and got it up some : I don't think this huge 30" long port is really optimal... but we just modified one of the other boxes to give it a shot.

    Not sure yet.

    SA-8 Tuned to 37 Hz - Video

MECA Style metering results so far (this is done at the passenger head rest with driver door open): We had a 143.2 but I didn't get a picture. Going to try some other frequencies later... that was the peak on the dash (37 Hz)... we haven't tried others yet.

    SA-8 Tuned to 37 Hz - Video

Yep - 37 hz on paper tuning. Seems to peak lower in-car than that.

  7. Here's the setup, a pair of Sundown Audio SAZ-1500d's strapped at 1 ohm. In the box used in the test (a single Funkin Audio MF12, dual 2), rise went from 1 ohm to 2 ohms during play. Here are the results: Notes: * Highest power on 16.0v rest was 4663 watts on 14.3v * Highest power on 16.5v rest was 5136 watts on 14.3v * Highest power on 17.9v rest was 5677 watts on 15.5v * 84% efficient on 15.0v and 180 amps of draw per amp There was a 10% increase in power starting 0.5v higher with an ending voltage being the same. There was another 10% increase when starting at 1.4v higher and ending 1.2v higher. This would tell me that a lowest voltage over 16.5v likely wouldn't be much of a gain from below that. No matter how ya look at it, tapping the 5700 mark on 15v isn't too shabby from a pair of 1500 watt amps.

Not yet -- the only stuff we have shown from his CRX so far was the high tuned box. Today we will gather some information from the low tuned box.

    sundown subwoofers?

Not really... I'm at the shop now... Sean and I are doing some testing.

The SAE-1200D is a good bit more powerful than the AQ-1200D.

Nightshade v.2 -- New Personal best score !

I had been running 12-volts for a while since I took the 16v out last time... basically seeing what I could do on 12v. Now that I feel like I maxed that out I went back to 16v.

    sundown subwoofers?

The Z v.2 and NS v.2 are not yet available. We have the Z v.1 on close-out sale and the SA-12s are shipping now... with SA-8s on pre-sale.

Sean has done some in his CRX -- he is quite happy with it.

Nightshade v.2 -- New Personal best score !

I may or may not be at the limits of the sub yet -- if the four 3500s don't get any louder then the sub simply cannot be forced to move any farther, period *laughs* If that is the case it will probably take a Neo driver of some kind to get me louder than I am now (that could inspire me to work on my Neo).

Nightshade v.2 -- New Personal best score !

I may also just throw four 3500s in there at 0.5 each -- that could do it

Nightshade v.2 -- New Personal best score !

UPDATE: I have moved to 16v but still around the same score... figuring out why. My impedance rise is insanely low with the D1 coils and the amps at 0.25 each... I may need to use D2 coils *laughs* 0.25 actual DCR per amplifier with a rise to 0.8 per amplifier -- little on the low side! When I kick it one more click past the 155.9 - 156.0 level the amps get protect happy. I need to re-build with a D2 which would give me 0.45 per amp actual DCR and should net 1.44 per amplifier... which based on earlier testing can still give me around 14,000 watts from the pair of 4500s on 18v.

If you are at least somewhat responsible with them they will be fine.

    Sundown SA-8 Pre-Sale

IMO... they would sound very good.
  20. Honestly... the SAE-1200D would stomp a mud hole up and down the JL 1000/1 in power output wired @ 1 ohm. Not to say the JL isn't a nice amp -- JL makes a very nice product.

The design is very similar to the other size SA drivers -- which people love the sound of. They will sound quite good. Tuned that low will yield a very deep response.

Are these amps really that good??

    Thanks all

Nightshade v.2 -- New Personal best score !

They are 12v -- I put my XS Power D1000s back in for 16v. These D1000s are troopers... 2 of them are 5-7 years old, another 2 are 3-4 years old, and the other two are 2-3 years old... and all of them hold a charge like new.
