    Woofer Building Back-Log

Hey guys, We are back-logged for a bit on woofer building here. The Z v.2 shipment landed last week and we have been SLAMMED ever since. We also sold the last stack of BM 10s to a customer and have been working to get those out to him. So... expect a bit longer lead time to get a sub if you order one we have to build. I plan to work late this week to catch up as fast as possible.

No, it won't delay the SA-8s -- they are not built here in house.

Sundown EXACT same as IA and RD amps??

As for woofers -- the Z v.2 and NS v.2 (and all but the first run of NS v.1) are built here at Sundown. The NS v.2 is the result of well over a years work of testing the "Monster" prototype and the Nightshade v.1 since they were introduced... pretty slick design. I was able to use a ~50% longer coil and add quite a bit of mass (triple joint ring, thicker former, more windings, etc) with NO loss in SPL output per watt. The motors are not built in house as it's not cost effective for us at this time -- but final assembly takes place here. Smaller woofers are outsourced -- I've spent a few years getting to know the build houses that assemble my woofers and I am now quite familiar with what they are capable of and can make top quality drivers with them. The SA-12s have had only ONE driver fail our pre-shipment QC out of all the units sold so far. I wasn't able to get QC that good in the USA.

Jon, We are WAY backed up (about 50 Z v.2 to build) but we are working on them as fast as possible.

Sundown EXACT same as IA and RD amps??

Hey guys, I use two Korean build houses for amps -- the 4500D is made in a different place than my other Korean amps. I use a Chinese build house for the SAE-1200D and future SAE models (SAE-1000D was Korean). I am slowly tooling proprietary boards for Sundown one at a time... the SAZ-3500D is my board tooling, the SAZ-2500D is my board tooling, and I have several more in the works that I have not discussed. Same build house does not make all the amps the same. Support, warranty, and service also make a big difference and are the #1 reason people keep coming back to Sundown. PS: All of the new Incriminator amps are proprietary boards for IA as well. I know the guys over at IA and they make a fine product.

    EMAIL PROBLEMS

Every message I sent today was rejected by my server... just got all of the errors all at once at the end of the day. Something is up and they seem to think I sent over 100 e-mails in one hour... so until I can figure out what is going on it may take me longer than normal to reply. I can still RECEIVE emails no problem, though, so you can still send me a message... but this problem seems to have made email not work on my Blackberry as well and I have to log into my Hotmail to send any messages... so response time will be up. Sorry guys... working with the hosting company on this.

    SAX-50.4 Close Out Continued

16.0 (sixteen point zero) volts and no more -- so no, you cannot run them on a 16v system.

    EMAIL PROBLEMS

I'm hoping to have them back in stock in April at some point... been focusing my attention on the Z v.2, NS v.2, and smaller amp lines at the moment.

In the mean time I am copying and pasting EVERY email I sent all day (ALOT) into Hotmail and resending... my apology if I send any of them twice!

Oh yah... D1 coils just arrived. So we can build 12s, 15s, and 18s now in D1 or D2. 10" frames are not in yet.

    Sundown Z v.2 Pricing

The NS v.2 will have a lower Fs in most cases with stock suspension vs. the Z v.2 -- this is because the NS v.2 uses the "Nightshade cone" and also a much heavier voice coil. The extra mass decreases the Fs. Lower Fs typically gives you more low-end output. I can simply reduce spider stiffness on the Z v.2 to gain a low Fs as well -- but your sacrifice mechanical power handling. In my option, though, the Italian market with like the NS v.2 the most -- you guys like to put BIG power on speakers

Just a HAIR less than the NS v.1 -- you can assume it is the same for most purposes.

    Sundown Z v.2 Pricing

The advantage of the Nightshade v.2 is MUCH more power handling long-term... voice coil is almost 50% longer than the Z v.2 and is double the layers of wire. Both can be used equally well for daily systems and for SPL systems -- they will also both play very low if the box is tuned properly. Example - NS v.1 playing almost 150 dB @ 35 hz :

    Sundown Z v.2 Pricing

The Nightshade cone should only be used for the following : 1) To lower the driver Fs as it is 70 grams heavier 2) For applications where you might break the Z v.2 cone -- small CRX style tube enclosures would be one example The Nightshade spiders should only be used if you know why you want them... many folks changing over from the old NS v.1 may want them so that the suspension characteristics match their enclosure testing data. For 90% of people the regular configuration with the standard Z v.2 cones, single leads, and either 2 or 3 spiders is perfect.

    Sundown Z v.2 Pricing

More spiders would only be necessary for a very large enclosure or for STUPID amounts of burp power... I've put 7200 watt burps on the 2 spider configuration @ 53 Hz. I only offer it because some folks DEMAND more spiders. Double leads quite naturally handle more current... if you have an amp @ 1/2 ohm you will want them - or if you are burping 4000+ watts or so.
