    sundown sax-100.4

I don't suggest it... will add alot of stress to the amp and significantly shorten it's life span.

They are rated 600 RMS. You can look around at reviews and make your decision based on that.

If a speaker wire grounded out it would have damaged your amp.

    ETA on sundown e8v.2 + general/technical questions

The recones come as raw parts so you can assemble them to fit the E8 v.1 motor with the correct coil height. I have not done so yet as I don't have E8 v.2 parts in stock - so no specs. The v.2 coil is actually a few mm shorter to help prevent bottoming out and destruction of soft parts -- xmax is really close, though, due to the taller top plate. Either coil can handle over 200-watts -- but the soft suspension on the v.1 especially was a limiting factor to 200 watts RMS. As for the spider... it is a little stiffer and also wider. Surround is designed for less throw but is a rubber material so will not tear. You can see the videos I have up... has plenty of throw -- at excessive power I can reach the basket mechanical limits with it but at that point the rubber is actually stretching a bit. The v.1 surround was too much surround for a small driver so I scaled the roll down alot. The v.2 motor is stronger than the v.1 as it is slightly larger (not much). ETA not available just yet.

"Magic Box" V.2 For an 18"

Couple tenths... not really significant. It does make it alot easier to work in there, though.

"Magic Box" V.2 For an 18"

Oh yah... rounded all outside edges of the box and around the port mouth this morning -- zero change in SPL.

"Magic Box" V.2 For an 18"

Been playing with it a bit and still not quite up to Magic Box v.1 performance... need to figure out what works best in this box. Interestingly the 3 Spider Z v.2 was louder than a 3 Spider Nightshade v.1 in this box at equal power (as three NS spiders is a bit less stiff over stroke they are louder in the 15" v.1 enclosure - 2 Z v.2 spiders was roughly equivalent per watt). This leads me to believe I may need to build several 18s to see what configuration is the loudest. Plan to build a 2 spider model and a 4 spider model and run them all to see what happens.

Yah, I think so. When I get more power again.

"Magic Box" V.2 For an 18"

    Results so far with Z v.2 18" D2 with 3 Spiders (too stiff for this box): 420 watts = 144.6 520 watts = 145.5 660 watts = 146.4 830 watts = 147.2 1040 watts = 148.0 1310 watts = 149.0 1620 watts = 149.8 1790 watts = 150.1 1960 watts = 150.4 2340 watts = 151.1 * Let Sub Cool for about 15 minutes * 2530 watts = 151.6 3110 watts = 152.4 3390 watts = 152.7 3530 watts = 152.9 3860 watts = 153.1 4160 watts = 153.4 All results @ 53 Hz / dB Drag on the dash sealed mic position on the TL.

"Magic Box" V.2 For an 18"

The "secret" is a bit more complicated than the pictures might imply... I'd be impressed if someone figured it all out from the pics I spent all morning the other day reverse engineering the old box since we built it 3+ years ago *laughs* Then I scaled it up and kept the important ratios identical to the old box but a bit larger for an 18.

    New product announcement.

It was designed for more power while remaining nearly as small... the 1000D is a very reliable amp.

    New product announcement.

Who wants to know what it is ? Here is a hint... it's 1" longer than the SAZ-1000D and it will actually replace the 1000D once the next run of 1000Ds is sold (so if you need one get one). I'll be opening pre-sale soon... coming in with the 2500Ds.

    New product announcement.

I have a prototype large 4 channel I plan to test soon... not sure if / when I would produce it. Is in fact 1 ohm stable... for running large PA speaker setups.

    New product announcement.

I am toying with a big boy design... but not seriously. I am still working on launching the 4500D to bigger production numbers before I even think about it seriously.

As long as they fit depth wise you can. May get some port noise with the Zs, though.

Waiting on word on the amps -- should be here in the following days.

    Sundown SA-8 Pre-Sale

You should be able to fit the woofer forward to dash and port to back of the trunk if you use smaller diameter port pipe for shorter length. This should result in more SPL. My enclosure is 0.5 cubic feet each woofer -- 14 liters for each (so 28 liters for two).
  19. sundownz

    Sundown SA-8 Pre-Sale

Yes, like my enclosure : Also, have you tested applied power with meters to check actual amplifier power to the woofers ?
  20. sundownz

    Sundown SA-8 Pre-Sale

The problem is phasing of port to woofer cone. It would be ideal for SPL for the woofers to face forward and the port backward. Can you fold down the seats for SPL and do this ?

yes they can - but he wants to control FOUR amps with one remote.

Debating... so far they have been significantly more reliable than the v.1 model -- if that continues I will keep them around.

Telephone cord splitter will do it.
