If your mids and highs play up to 300 Hz and stop, hehe

They are improving in all regards... nothing is being sacrificed to reduce the amps size. The new output section MOSFET bank is about 50% stronger than the old while using half as many parts (this is where the size reduction came in) and the new power supply FETs handle about 50% more current than the old ones (same # of parts, just better ones... like the 2500D is using). Another level of over-built on the semiconductors No reduction in sizing of the power supply transformers or output inductors either.

Before anyone asks... we tried closing the sides up and SPL dropped -- it was best open like that.
-
* Drivers side fully foamed in and enclosed * Passenger side fully foamed and enclosed The above made my SPL drop hard (I am doing it to prepare for my bandpass setup)... so we came up with an idea. * Mini skateboard ramp ! * Another view This brought my peak SPL back to where it was and my efficiency almost back to where it was. Too bad I never tried the ramp before the foam... I thought about it but never got around to it.

The 3500D excels on a reactive load - you can see around 1 dB at a 1 ohm load vs. a 3000D.

We no longer use the plastic alignment rings so this is no longer necessary -- but I'll leave it around in case anyone has an old recone.

THIS IS FOR WOOFERS WITH THE PLASTIC CENTERING CAP ** If you do not have the centering cap use Amazing Goop for the dust cap ** Seems people have ALOT of problems putting caps on their re-cones so this is how it is done : Buy two of these containers of Loctite FIVE MINUTE epoxy w/ mixing tubes at Lowes (DO NOT USE ONE MINUTE): ---------- First Step : http://www.sundownaudio.com/misc/how-to/Nightshade_Dust_Cap/CIMG2514.MOV Put epoxy around the edges of the disc as shown - make sure to get a good bit in the little holes so it is filled in. ---------- Second Step: Wait about 5 minutes for the first step to dry. http://www.sundownaudio.com/misc/how-to/Nightshade_Dust_Cap/CIMG2515.MOV CAREFULLY make a bead around the dust cap to fill in the gap area. You will see Brandon traces back a bit at the end - this is because the epoxy keeps dripping out a bit and we don't want it on the cone. Don't put too much or it will run over onto the cap!

Looking really good Dave !

You will be fine. It's quite uncommon for the spiders to come off anyway -- and you are well within the box size and power range. The bolt down is primarily for SPL competitors (like me) who burp 1000-2000+ watts on them.
-
If you are running higher than 400-watts RMS you should consider adding epoxy like my tutorial shows : Tutorial: How to strengthen spider landing glue on SA-8 - SSA Car Audio Forum

Why "daily" systems should not count on impedance rise
sundownz replied to sundownz's topic in Sundown Audio
MMATs makes a 0.5 ohm amp -- they are designed to handle the current, although, running that much current through an amp is still less efficient. -
You can burp it no problem in parallel.
-
The things that make it work so well have to do with the phase of the port to woofer cone and also playing with loading the port against a plane on both ends to get the correct tuning... some of which was luck on the first box but I was able to reverse engineer it and make another similar box as shown here.

They should enter customs on June 11th and be to me not long after.

Same score with an NS v.1 today as well (155.9 many times) -- may be maxing out the pressure my Jeep can take with a rear-firing port. Looks like I need to start on my forward firing setup soon!

Unfortunately the graph seems to be gone. -
I've used them on 8 ohm speakers before - plenty of power for most drivers out there

Great work

You can post on the forum or email.

It is 20.15" long -- height and width = all other SAZ amps.
-
Threw some good power on it today and hit 155.9 dB -- really close to the v.1 box results but this is with a Z v.2 =) Now to try an NS v.2 18 in here when they arrive !

If you still need anything please email me -- I rarely do venture out of the Sundown section.

If you find a used one... or if you get a motor we can still make drop-ins. When are you going to release the nightshade V2's? Have you worked out the issues with the SA 15's? NS v.2s are a few weeks out. SA-15 design is done... final cone was produced... etc. Just a matter of time to start production.
