    Sundown Audio Facebook Page

I have created an actual Sundown Facebook page that you can "Like" and get updates. I've had hundreds of friends requests on my personal page from customers -- and it is just that, a personal page, and not for everyone to see. But I did post alot of Sundown information on there that I'm sure people wanted to see... that information will now go to our actual Facebook page: Sundown Audio| Facebook

    1x SA-8 w/ SPL Coil : 151.6 dB Outlaw

Okay... you have my attention. I am in the process of building a Street A CRX for the 2011 season and your subs (and this post) caught my eye. Its an '89 HF and I'll be using a Crossfire VR4000D (for starters)...so figure 3400-3600+ watts (conservative). Per Crossfires' Tech dept. the sweet spot is 1.4 ohms,so I am looking at 3- 2 ohm dvc subs. Based on your experience what do you suggest my best course of action would be in relation to box volume and tuning? (maybe 1 8" port or 2 6" ports) Thank you An 8" should work well for two as we use a 6" for one.
  3. SA-8 D2 w/ Aluminum SPL Coil -- I had a thread about the idea here : http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53745 151.6 passenger side kick measurement at 68 Hz. We haven't re-clamped since moving stuff around but it was clamping 1670 watts yesterday at 151.0 dB -- HU volume hasn't changed, we simply moved stuff around so we are assuming power isn't a whole lot different. We are going to get another video soon as well... we got a 152.2 in the driver side kick panel. Haven't had time to do a video just yet.

    Sundown Audio Facebook Page

Many people who were still also friends with my personal page will notice that they no longer are as of this morning -- this is nothing personal towards anyone -- I am merely separating my personal page and my Sundown Audio page. This is quite necessary. So, again, no offense to anyone in particular -- you are all more than welcome to contact me on here, by forums, and by e-mail at any time.

    Prototype Z v.3 Testing

I am currently not currently planning to custom build these beyond re-cones -- similar to the SA line. As for testing the other coils -- no I have not yet. I simply know they will fit the gap as the gap width = the NS v.2 As for 6k burps -- the stock woofer will do that already, at least in my box.
  6. SA-8s are back in stock. * This run has the new surround tooling. * New spider not implemented yet -- will be available on the November-December run. SA-10 D2 are back in stock. * This run has the magnet boots. * New spacer ring / pole cap will be available on the November-December run.

    Prototype Z v.3 Testing

Playing a Bass Mekanik track that drops down to 20 Hz. We are using an SAZ-2500D @ 1 ohm on the woofer -- the first part of the track shows the sub playing at maximum un-clipped volume and then we push it into clipping towards the end to show how much is TOO much sub movement. You can actually hear a bit of "buzzing" right at first after I turn it up for the second run -- that is audible clipping.

    Prototype Z v.3 Testing

Need to play the 12 and 15 some before measuring specs but here are 18" and 10" specs after a couple minutes play time... should experience a good bit more break-in over a week or so of play time. Broken cone?

Should still work if you got good coverage.

    Prototype Z v.3 Testing

Rated 1500 RMS -- very beefy American made 4-layer round aluminum coils with SA series style coil cooling in the motor. These also have a healthy sized aluminum shorting ring / heat-sink inside the magnets.

Family Photo : I may tool new surrounds for the 10, 12, and 15 -- currently the roll is equal to the SA series. Some torture testing is in order

    Prototype Z v.3 Testing

Even if I put an NS v.2 coil in it there would still be 44.5mm to bottom -- one of these 18s re-coned with an NS v.2 coil would have some ridiculous linear excursion for an IB home setup or something like that =)

    Prototype Z v.3 Testing

Around 37mm one-way to bottom it out now without the bump-out that we will have on production... with production it will be 52mm so impossible.

    Broken cone?

For a surround I would suggest Goop or E6000, actually... that one was an original run not built by us with CA glue and that is why it let go.

    Prototype Z v.3 Testing

My prototypes are here and they are fantastic... the 18" has an incredible amount of throw... I actually bottomed it out free air. Fortunately I have modifications for production that provide 15mm more mechanical clearance rearward =) I may tool new surrounds for them before production as well -- but that is pending more testing... as these surrounds are actually already pretty darn good.

    sundown sweatshirts?

Derrick can make them for you -- he makes all of our shirts and decals -- we don't stock them but he is authorized to make them : Derrick Haddock <[email protected]>

    Prototype Z v.3 Testing

Still working on several things : 1) Foam packing tooling 2) Final testing of all sizes to verify performance / parameters 3) Final coil details with Precision in the USA 4) Selling stock of Z v.2 models I am still thinking May to June next year. all i want are the spiders with the integrated leads. im not sure, but these arent on the current zv2 12"s are they? can i get a zv2 custom with these new spiders? No, they aren't on the current Z v.2 -- they use round tied down leads. I will not have these parts in stock until the Z v.3 are in production. darn.... ok, will the Zv2 be able to be reconed to Zv3s? trying to figure my stuff out for next year, really want the integrated leads lol Other than coils I can interchange the parts. So you v.2 could get the spider, cones, dust cap, etc from a v.3 but will retain a v.2 coil.

    Prototype Z v.3 Testing

Crunching numbers a bit this morning -- we are looking at 10-12% less than the Z v.2 on price based on current estimates. Lead time will also be drastically reduced as we won't have to schedule build time -- so they can ship within 1-2 days rather than a week or so like now. Another side benefit to the design change is that all Nightshade coils fit this motor -- NS v.1, NS v.2, and NS v.2 SPL.
  21. It's fairly consistent regardless of the model in our line : 8s = 0.5 cubes ported / 0.25 cubes sealed 10s = 1.0 - 1.5 cubes ported / 0.5 to 1.0 sealed 12s = 1.5 - 2.0 cubes ported / 1.0 to 1.25 sealed 15s = 3.0 - 4.0 cubes ported / 2.0 to 2.5 sealed 18s = 4.0 - 5.0 cubes ported / 3.0 to 3.5 sealed Ball-park figures that will work most of the time for you. the Nightshade and Z v.2 woofers don't really lean towards sealed but the SA line does work fine sealed.

Leaving from work early today to attend MECA Finals -- I won't be on the forums this weekend and emails will be limited. I'll be back to work on Monday.

Thinking about two in my CRX... one on mids / midbass (Morel) and one on tweeters (Focal) and woofer.
