Effects of running amps without these parts
sundownz replied to holley2346's topic in Sundown Technical
I wouldn't run it without them even if it technically will run; also if that damage is visible may be specs of solder and parts legs on the other side of the board to short out. -
I believe it's the slave amp, because it seems to be back feeding therefore turning my master amp on once I connect the 2 using a short rem. I took a DMM and measured the voltage coming off the rem for the slave amp, it was at 9-7 then 6-4 then 3-1 then went back up. At whose expense would the amp be shipped to db-r then repaird? If your amp is under warranty (make a copy of your invoice for dB-R to verify) then you simply need to ship it to dB-R and we cover repair / shipping back to you. You could fill out his repair request form today and I'm sure he'll get back w/ you after the Holiday : http://www.db-r.com/cs/css/ttx.cgi Again, for warranty repair -- mention that it is for warranty on the request ticket so Chris knows what he is getting.
-
Okay -- whichever one is not switching on and off normally may need a repair. Just double check them one at a time both on and off -- whichever unit does not behave correctly can get sent over to dB-R for examination.
-
If they play one at a time - next turn them both on with 12v and see if they play.
-
Before getting too caught up in the weird problem do simple things. Put 12v on each amps remote connection one at a time and see if they behave normally. If not then we can go back to the weird problem.

My suggestion stands at re-doing the remote wire system -- I have not seen an issue like yours before or I'd make a suggestion based on that. In the mean time there is an obvious remote problem that should be tackled -- then go from there for more troubleshooting. One thing at a time when troubleshooting

It's difficult to actually go too big on box with them as they will handle at least rated power in free air -- I think you'll be fine.

Seen a few from Russia already

Got the information I was unclear on -- it is leaning towards the $300 MAP side. I will still be looking at the mid 225-250 pre-order, though ! So I advise picking them up early to get the best deal as it will be the new king of 8" woofers
-
I would re-do your whole remote setup... too many weird things going on.

Basically... initial estimates are coming in pretty well identical to the X-12 woofer (285 MAP). http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/94289-sundown-x-12-prototype/ Not a huge surprise as this has the same motor size... considering all the custom tooled parts above that it's actually a deal, IMO I am going to call later to confirm all the estimates I got this morning as I'm not 100% clear on all the details without the call. I may be able to pre-sell them for in the area of 225-250 or so with possible discounts on multiples. ---- Worst case if my estimates need some adjusting we may have to go to ~$300 MAP on this driver. But... lets think about it and compare to the other "king" of 8" woofers on the market today : Linear x-max is identical to the 8W7 @ 19mm one-way... X-8 has a shorting ring which the W7 does not. Will handle WAY more power than the 8W7 does thermally... much stronger motor so way better for SPL... will weigh nearly 2x more due to that fact. Funny enough.. exact same mounting dept @ 6.83" -- OD of the 8W7 is 8.5" and ours is 8.9" -- so actual SD is nearly identical to the 8W7 due to their surround attachment method. Our cone will make theirs look sickly in strength as it's a high carbon fiber paper blend with molded ribs. We will have coil options which the W7 does not have (D2 and D4 for us) Lowest price I can find on an 8W7 is $275 from OCS with a 30-day warranty... pretty well the same as our authorized price with a 2-year warranty and our driver has many advantages as listed above. Authorized on the 8W7 at Crutchfield you are looking at $440 -- the X-8 is a steal by comparison. ---- I will confirm pricing estimates as soon as I can... but I am very pleased so far.

Sound like you need a re-cone -- I have sold very very few D2 alum subs so those are probably the first two judging by the gray frames. We've got some tricks to make them more even more durable since.
-
Is the red LED on or no LED at all ? If none then it is probably a wire even if it doesn't look like it.
-
The aluminum 8-layer coils are quad-wound like most flat 8-layers -- if part of the coil goes out it would read 4 ohms (half open), 0 ohms (short), or no connection (both open). So it won't be a coil issue reading 2.8 -- it is either the terminal, a solder joint, or the leads themselves. I would check the lead wires next to the cone for burns.

Is the lead wire burnt ?

Im runnind 2 1500d's with a 300 amp ANL by monster. Master Slave config. I burp a 49hz tone about 15 seconds at a time. Never had to replace a fuse yet. Im runnig a 220 amp alt, 3 c&d big boy batteries, 4 runs of 0 gauge, 2 saz1500d's on a single PWK design bass reflex. With a single dual .5 ohm 9515g. runs around 152db. :fing34:
-
Draw is ~160 amps -- you could use a 150-amp ANL for most situation.

We had a customer order through SSA that wanted one v.1 and one v.2 -- we did not have any v.1s left and we notified Aaron so two v.2s were sent. That may be your order. The v.2 amp is 1.6" shorter than the v.1 and has no internal fuses -- that is how you can tell.
-
The amps are here, yes -- we have started shipping them. Specific ship dates are not available -- ASAP is all I can say.
-
Anyone waiting on an e-mail reply may experience delays as we are still working pretty much 8 hours solid each day on pre-orders. I do as many as I can on my BlackBerry in the evenings but haven't had much time @ work to catch up -- I'll do as many as I can after hours tonight. I haven't lost any e-mails and not ignoring anyone -- but getting out the orders has been prioritized.

He is from Italy We are building our new web-site and will be working to fill it out with the data missing from the current site.

Hey guys, Almost all of them shipped as of today -- just letting you all know !

SE4000 is a really sweet design -- I can agree to that ARC finishes assembly of them in the USA, actually, the big transformer is not installed at the offshore factory -- or so I was told by Mr. Zeff (which I'm sure he wouldn't tell me so if it wasn't true).

They get split up sometimes.

RF Power amps are good quality -- no question.
