  1. Lots of things going on around here have resulted in an e-mail backlog again. Started around the 14th of January -- some e-mails scattered around from then until now need responding. So if you are waiting thanks for the patience and I'll catch up as soon as I can.

SA-12's One with cooling ring one without.

There is no issue mixing them together. The ring does increase thermal power handling a bit but it's not something that is going to create a problem for you.

Hey kids, be nice Sean - You and Emmanuel can duke it out if he makes it out here this summer

Is ebay fine to buy a nightshade v2

    My thoughts exactly
  6. You don't need more than 4k for the pair to sound great. Two 18s should be louder assuming both setups are optimized.
  7. For burp applications they are pretty similar -- the NS v.2 peaks even lower, though, and handles more power. The main reason to get the NS v.2 over Z v.2 is higher daily power handling and a bit more low-end at maximum levels (more linear x-max).

Indeed -- they have stock on nearly everything we sell. They got a few hundred SA series last time around -- they still have the 15 D4s in stock where we are sold out.

The SA line isn't going anywhere -- we do continuously improve them, though.

I am down to one from the Explorer in excellent condition -- I have a couple other ones that I haven't listed, though. For the battery -- I got it but haven't had time to call for rate yet.

    SA-10 SQ?

One of the few SQ reviews we have is on the 12" but he compares it favorably to many excellent SQ type drivers : http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/member-product-reviews/61735-sundown-sa-12-review.html
  15. There simply isn't a noise coming from the unit you sent back to us that would be audible when in a box especially in a trunk. Now... my question is this -- have you gotten the other driver in the box at all ? I am assuming not due to the fitment issue. Is this correct ? If this is the case I suggest taking a dremel to the area touching the motor so that the driver slides in and if it is contacting that surface place an insulator like rubber or foam on that spot. If the magnet was touching your enclosure this could very easily create a rattling sound. Also... if the tight fit prevented the driver from fully sealing against the enclosure a leak around the driver can make some VERY nasty sounds. As we have discussed the unit we have here that is supposed to be making the same rattling sound tests perfect -- the same as the other couple 1000 SA drivers out there. They simply don't make an audible rattle that can be heard when mounted in an enclosure.
  16. Any rattling sound heard with the sub in the box is definitely not the air swooshing sound -- that is not audible over bass in an enclosure. If it was I am confident I would have heard about it by now or noticed it in my own testing. I am pretty confident any rattling sound in the enclosure is related to the enclosure touching the magnet or perhaps enclosure flexing. The air sound is not a rattle sound, it is distinctly air movement. In my video we have a 2500-watt amp at ~75% maximum levels to produce even a fair amount mechanical noise from the driver -- with any other driver in this class what you would hear is the driver falling apart in that video.
  17. I don't have a firm date at the moment. Lots of other projects too priority to them.

  19. The replaced SA-10 was the version with no magnet boot which the back and top plates are about 5mm wider -- we shrunk them slightly to give the boot a place to lock on to. As for the rattle we believe it was due to the back plate touching the inside of the enclosure.
  20. I believe we have it solved.
  21. I hope we can figure out what is going on as I am fairly baffled on both counts.
  22. http://www.sundownaudio.com/misc/customer_test/CIMG4719.MOV The returned D2 woofer -- when we go towards the back of the sub you can hear some "wooshing" which is air-flow through the frame venting holes. There are zero rattling noises of any kind present. The video was produced with an SAZ-2500D at over 75% maximum levels.
  23. Copy of e-mail reply : Michael, We have the D2 unit here now that you returned and it is operationally flawless -- no problems whatsoever with the driver. I just tested it again to confirm and I am currently uploading a video. It seems as if you are either 1) Doing something wrong 2) Your test setup is flawed and/or amplifier over-driven and/or wired wrong or 3) You are hearing air noise from the motor vents and assuming it is something else. As for the fitment -- they are 100% identical to one another dimensionally. See attached photos of your D2 woofer and a new D4 with cooling ring. The D2 you sent back to us actually does not have a cooling ring for reference. - Jacob
  24. There is nothing operationally wrong with your sub -- not the one you sent back or the one we sent out again. We test them on a 2500D at near full power in free air before they go out. This is absolutely an install problem of some kind. As far as fitment the dimensions have not changed since the subs came out originally. Same frame, same motor, new and old spacer are the same total height, etc. In this regard I have no idea.
