I don't know - where did you order from ? If from SSA contact them via email.

The can be built with an NS v.1 coil and several different spiders.
-
Lots of other projects took priority over more NS v.2 motors but they came back to the top this week -- so the new ETA for more motors is end of May. Of course I'd rather product not be out of stock this long but we invested alot in amps to get around the MOSFET shortage so the NS v.2 had to take a back seat for bit.

* TS Specs * Thermal Test * Motor * Build Process * 156.1 with one 15" NS v.2
-
* v.2 on right -- newest v.1 spider on left * v.2 on right -- newest v.1 spider on left * Original v.1 on left -- newest v.1 on right * Original v.1 on left -- v.2 on right Deeper rolls on the v.2 plus a new material composition. I need to do a little more work on stiffness (softer) for production but I am very happy with the roll itself.

v.2 is only for the 8" right now -- it will be some time to work on the v.2 other sizes.

Box size has alot to do with mechanical power handling. If you are going to be pushing your woofer beyond it's rated RMS power you need to be very mindful of this fact and put the woofer in no larger than the minimum suggested enclosure for music program. We design our woofers for very small enclosures and power ratings are there for a reason -- you can continue to push a driver like the SA-8 beyond RMS power and it will not be stressed whatsoever thermally by the time you can cause mechanical issues. The motor, especially on the SA-8, is VERY strong -- being an 8" driver there is limited mechanical throw available. The driver retains high motor force all the way up to the point where you can start breaking it. In any event... based on my testing so far you can expect something like the following on mechanical power handling vs. ported box size on the SA-8 : 1.25 cubic feet = 300 watts 1.00 cubic feet = 400 watts 0.80 cubic feet = ~450-500 watts 0.60 cubic feet = ~500-600 watts You may ALSO need a subsonic filter depending on box tuning. The rated RMS power is 400 watts RMS -- if you push past that you are voiding warranty coverage. We are bringing in re-cone parts and they can be fixed, though, for those of you who like to push things. If you have any doubts about your ability to monitor your listening habits just stick to the 0.60 recommendation. To re-iterate... they are not fragile. I have ton ALOT of testing on them with enormous amounts of power -- the above considers full bandwidth music program that can drop to very low frequencies and is a safe suggestion. If you are an SPL competitor then you probably already know this and these suggestions don't really apply for burps @ tuning. We have put in excess of 600% of RMS power on them for SPL burps.

Most of today will be a dedicated moving day -- we have been doing just a little at a time up to now but we are spending a solid day of it today. So shipping and e-mails will likely be delayed a day.

Got alot done today -- it's getting there

I have teamed up with Mike once again; this time to clear out QC failed SA-8s at a discount. We have worked with Mike before on E8s that failed QC so I am sharing this offer with my forums. They are all new drivers that didn't pass on our bench test; which is performed on all speakers and amps that ship from Sundown. Mike is re-building them with our latest updated soft parts. Note : These do not carry warranty from Sundown Audio. We are not re-building this in house; the work is done by Mike so they must be ordered from him and not us. --- I will be selling Sundown’s inventory of SA-8s that have failed quality control testing. Each of these woofers were tested by Jacob and found to have a defect in the coil alignment. I will be refurbishing these woofers with OEM SA-8 parts and reselling them to the public. Most of these have never been mounted or powered other than to check for coil alignment. Buyers will receive 100% fully functional refurbished Sundown Audio SA-8 woofers. As I said, most of these have never been used before so the motors, are in excellent condition and may only show slight signs of wear from testing. The baskets and soft parts are all guaranteed to be brand new. Available in D2 and D4 coils. Both the 8" and 10" have a very similar frequency response -- which is quite usable from 50 to 5000 Hz -- after 5k you have a gradual drop off. If they are to be played at high power I would of course suggest a 24 dB crossover slope at around 60-80 Hz -- if a large array of drivers is used this could be lowered as each driver will need to move less. If only a couple are used and it is desired to keep up with a huge system I would go fro a ~80-100 Hz crossover point. --- Production should complete first of March -- so that puts them early April in stock.

I got both of my SA-12's from FedEx today... You couldnt tell there was a glue smear on either of them... I seriously dont even know why you would call them B-stock... they are truly in perfect condition... We are very particular on QC checking. -
It is currently for sale with most of the gear removed : FS 160+DB Explorer

It probably isn't there -- we still have several additions to make and tweaking. Meant to get on it right after the site went live but we've been super busy since.

SA 12 swap out from Treo TSX - SMD Forum Originally posted by kr15 on my SMD Forum : (All italics text posted by kr15) Summary : 1.2 dB up with the SA-12 ----- Well I have an SA 12 in the mail from Jacob. I am currently running a Tsx at 2ohm on a MBQ 1500d, so 800rms or so. The Treo is in an optimal box for TSX specs. The SA will also be in an optimal box. This is in a trunk car...When sub gets here and after I break it in some, I will post numbers from the swap. Both subs will have recieved 800rms, and both subs will have been in enclosures made to specs so I feel the comparison is pretty fair. The TSX is only rated at 400rms, but thats a joke. It has a 2.5inch coil and nice motor structure/soft parts etc, so even tho the SA specs out better on paper, the TSX isnt your standard 400w driver so I feel that the comparison is fair here as well.. I plan to meter both subs and music and tones, I will state those numbers and also compare them based on my thoughts of the SQ of the two. I will post a video as well.. And just for fun, a Flex team mate has offered to use his SAZ 3k to see what we can do. The Treo might go up in smoke (hope we get a vid), but the SA should handle it... I predict the SA to do 139 on music and 140 on a tone. The Treo is about 138 on music, Im not sure about on a tone. So I expect about a 1db gain from the SA...we shall see. And a Thanks to Jacob for supplying me with an item for my addiction ----- Got my package today, and I must say that this thing is impressive....I think the "600w" rating on this thing may be a bigger line of bullshit then the "max" ratings on Lanzar amps (which we all know is the biggest single falsehood in car audio)...You might be more likely to actually get 4000w out of one of those lanzar amps then you would be to damage this sub on 600w...Heck of a product Jacob..."Entry Line" my ass...lol ----- This thing is amazing Jacob. Fresh out of the box, not even broken in, suspension still stiff as hell and in a box that is spec'd for the Treo, this sub is definately louder and probabley has better SQ then the Treo. You have officially converted me from Treo...I am having a box built to the specs you emailed me based on my power and goals by a teammate and we will TL it that day, hopefully in a week or 2. I will post up results and a video. Sundown! FTW! Here are some comparison pics. 2 very overbuilt subs, the Treo being a "400w" driver and the SA a "600w" driver ----- Ok, finally some numbers for you guys....in a direct swap out, the sundown was 1.2db louder then the treo was on music...the treo had done a 137.9, the sa did a 139.1...on a tone, 51hz (my cabin peak ), the sundown did a 140.3 this was done at the headrest. I literally dropped the Sundown into the box the treo was in and have made no adjustments....Once I make a box for the sundown, i will update the numbers... -----

I thought about making a small run for Hank's build and enough to make them legal -- but he changed plans. When I move to the SA v.2 I will re-visit the idea (probably next year).

Glad to see customers doing real comparisons as well !

At 1 ohm rising to 2 ohms I got 50% more power from the SAX-1200D

Is the sundow 3000d a good amp choice for a btl18?
sundownz replied to Casey_920's topic in Sundown Audio
To answer the original question : Many customers run 3000Ds on BTLs and have done so for years. You would be in the market for electrical upgrades to sustain 3kw of power, though. -
They are in production.

I am working on them now, though, going to get through as many as I can before lunch then I'll have to get on some other things -- but I hope to be back on track this week
