    Shallow Component Set

We have a good bit of testing and tweaking to do to get them market ready but so far I am pleased for a first sample set. We'll keep you guys updated as always !
  2. Been working on these for a while but haven't said much... but Andy @ Vex has posted some videos so figured I'll open it up now -- some photos : I have requested spring loaded terminals for production since I hate spades... also will have our logo on them. They are all single 8-ohm so more can be wired to one amp -- the 200.4 can power 32 of them Flat, tied down tinsel leads as I could still hear lead-slap on mid-bass heavy material on our first sample... good quality paper cone... vented neo motor for high power handling. What is different ? Well... we made a real CAR speaker here. They will have great mid-bass in IB or sealed -- this sacrificed some of the sensitivity rating but if you ask anyone that has heard them output is NOT a problem and the gain in mid-bass, especially in IB, is WELL worth it. Most PA style drivers have ultra high sensitivity as they are made to run PORTED in a PA environment... almost nobody ports them in a car. We also chose Neo as when you get several of them in a door weight is a BIG issue with ferrite PA drivers. In any event... there they are. Pricing will be about $99 on 8s and $115 on the 10s on the pre-order.

    Amplifier Stock News (Announcement Inside)

The size of the NS-1 will be larger than the 4500D length-wise but it's not twice as big or anything -- I've said many times in the past that I don't like SUPER large amps for reliability, practicality, and repair cost reasons. I am estimating under 30" long right now depending on final layout considerations.

    Sundown Neo-Pro 8 and 10 (Midrange)

We rate the 8s for 100 RMS -- but your slope is pretty steep... hit me up when they come in.

    Amplifier Stock News (Announcement Inside)

That's why Sundown is an innovator not an imitator I'm not saying its a bad thing having a openly tooled board, but when the company acts like it is far better than the rest WITH the same or very similar board. That's what gets me. Jake, is Sundown planning on release any other amps in the future? Or is the line pretty full for the moment? I'm ready to see what the sister company has to offer...You ever get any protos for these? I have several smaller amps planned for Sundown -- on the big side I may do a large two channel. For Obsidian -- I should have prototypes in the near future.

    Amplifier Stock News (Announcement Inside)

The 3500D was our first fully custom tooled board for Sundown -- it turned out great Then we went on to do the 2500D, 1500D v.2, and SAX-1200D boards... and now the NS-1 so the full Class-D line will be tooled up how we want it. If I do anything to the 3500D it would be next year at the earliest.

I have not started on nor am I currently planning any revisions for the 3500D at this time.

    Power changing sound of enclosure?

The amps should have the same sound as one another at the same volume level -- simply be sure all the knobs are matched exactly between the two setups.

    Amplifier Stock News (Announcement Inside)

Much more powerful... not a crazy big amp that is totally impractical... but will be very useful for many large builds.

I hate to be a nosey nellie but will it still retain the classic Sundown Casing? It will retain the 4500D casing -- which is quite similar to the other amps but wider.

There is one for your order -- I counted remaining stock and all pending orders can be filled. We will replace it within 3-4 months with the NS-1 model.

Correct - I put it in the PDF.

    SA Series 10/12/15 Specs

Got them all together... they are measured after ~5 minutes of break-in time. You will see the CMS loosen up another 33% after some serious play time which will both reduce the FS and Qts figures of the drivers. These are the latest versions with shorting rings (hence lower Le figures). Otherwise identical to prior SA models in T/S specs. Some Re variance is shown based on coil temperature from break-in period. D2 is closer to 4.0 in series and D4 7.0 in series at room temperature. ----- 10" D2 Re: 4.29 ohms Fs: 35.4 Hz VAS: 10.13 L Qes: 0.52 Qms: 5.41 Qts: 0.48 Le: 3.41 mH BL: 20.40 NA Mms: 230 g Cms: 87.8 uM/N Sens: 81.0 dB 1w/1m 10" D4 Re:7.08 ohms Fs: 36.6 Hz VAS: 10.66 L Qes: 0.54 Qms: 5.30 Qts: 0.49 Le: 4.71 mH BL: 24.82 NA Mms: 205 g Cms: 92.4 uM/N Sens: 81.6 dB 1w/1m 12" D2 Re: 4.57 ohms Fs: 33.71 Hz VAS: 21.21 L Qes: 0.58 Qms: 5.34 Qts: 0.52 Le: 3.40 mH BL: 21.64 NA Mms: 280 g Cms: 79.43 uM/N Sens: 83.21 dB 1w/1m 12" D4 Re: 7.07 ohms Fs: 33.96 Hz VAS: 24.63 L Qes: 0.55 Qms: 5.15 Qts: 0.49 Le: 4.84 mH BL: 25.67 NA Mms: 237 g Cms: 92.27 uM/N Sens: 84.22 dB 1w/1m 15" D2 Re: 4.61 ohms Fs: 34.88 Hz VAS: 54.69 L Qes: 0.72 Qms: 6.52 Qts: 0.65 Le: 3.39 mH BL: 21.76 NA Mms: 338.85 g Cms: 61.42 uM/N Sens: 86.81 dB 1w/1m 15" D4 Re: 7.75 ohms Fs: 36.95 Hz VAS: 52.35 L Qes: 0.85 Qms: 6.63 Qts: 0.75 Le: 4.98 mH BL: 25.87 NA Mms: 315 g Cms: 58.8 uM/N Sens: 86.68 dB 1w/1m ----- I made a one-page spec-sheet for them that should start showing up in our next production run as well -- should make life easier for everyone getting these guys! So what makes XS Power Batteries different?

Good stuff... I always tell people to just spend the money on batteries and get good ones! XS Power is my first suggestion.

Re-Building Pair of 15" UFO Style BTLs

The new spacer is 20mm thick vs ~12mm on the stock spacer pack. We use a spacer on our SA line and upcoming Z v.3 line for the same reason -- so the triple joint ring doesn't hit the top plate

Re-Building Pair of 15" UFO Style BTLs

Per original post : "The new spacer was needed to make clearance for the triple joint ring so it will not hit the extended neck on the top plate." The black frame looks nicer

    * Put a small pad on as the double leads can make a small tapping sound at high excursion. Probably not audible in-box but it makes me feel better!

    SA-8 v.2 Prototype Video

Yes. Mechanically power handling will be down slightly due to the softer spider... but in box still easily 400+

    SA-8 v.2 Prototype Video

SA-8 v.2 is going to be just a few dollars more than the SA-8 v.1 -- you are thinking of the X-8 -- in which case the 8W7 is 50% more expensive at MAP still.

    SA-8 v.2 Prototype Video

The softer spider is in -- when Sean comes up again testing will be done to make sure we are where we need to be on it. In the mean-time I am making another production run of SA-8 v.1 as so many are still being sold.

    Sundown X-8 Work in Progress

The main update is bad news guys. The factory that was producing our surround, cone, dust cap, and spider for this driver was destroyed in the disaster in Japan. As this is an ultra high-end unit we were utilized some of the more specialized technology available from this supplier in Japan for these parts. That explains why I have not heard anything in a while. From what I was told by my contact several workers were killed, some are still missing, and the building is completely wiped out. The frame, motor, magnet boot, and coil are made in China so should proceed normally. I should have more on the frame within two weeks as things are getting back on track in China. Of course the soft parts set-back will delay the product overall significantly.
