    "Monster" v.2 Prototype Due Soon

I may actually sell them this time -- with a huge disclaimer about motor weight needing to be supported

    SA-8s SOLD OUT (4-21-11)

SA-8s SOLD OUT (4-21-11) The large quantity we recently received have already blown out of here. I had planned to have the v.2 done some time ago and have them in production and ready to roll in around now but that did not work out as planned. In any event... the unforseen sales volume + delays on the v.2 put this production run at the end of July to come in. Until then Mike Bruno has a decent stash of the QC failed units he is re-building... and WoofersEtc.com has the last of what is in our warehouse on the way to them for new drivers.

    SA-8s SOLD OUT (4-21-11)

Crazy thing... we sold 250% more than the historic average since the last shipment arrived on March 4th... the speakers should have lasted until the next run arrived or at least into June.

    Prototype Z v.3 Testing

I have started development on our Z v.3 woofer -- it is designed to increase thermal capacity a bit from the v.2 and also to be available for a lower price. We are outsourcing the build to our build house that we use for the SA series... BUT we are shipping USA made coils from Precision Econowind over to be used in them The advantage of USA coils ? The Z v.3 passed a 1500-watt 60 Hz sine wave test for 5 minutes with a Chinese coil... but they only take 300 degrees! Well... American coils take 500 degrees! So think that over a bit We are talking 66% higher temperature handling and the speaker already passed the thermal test with the lower temperature coil. Trade offs vs. the v.2 model ? Motor force factor is not quite as high as the Z v.2 model (wider gap, different coil, etc) -- but I worked hard to optimize the suspension to work as best as possible with the given motor power. ETA is May to June of 2011 -- but I can't help but share some early information! I won't tell you what product this is. This product would probably excel for a very high frequency burp application, though. --- Notice that I had to go +1 more on the HU for the same power on the competing product ? The Z v.3 features a shorting ring so has less impedance rise than a woofer that does not. SPL performance is quite similar to the competing product despite the lower motor force factor... and the Z v.3 has ALOT more suspension travel so would pull ahead and very low frequencies when pushed to high stroke. In any event... I am quite pleased with it. I still have a good bit of work to do... as they are ~8 months out but I figured I'd share some early information. Until then the Z v.2 will remain available... the v.2 is actually a bit louder than the v.3 but does cost more than the v.3 will since we build the v.2 in house currently. A few photos : It does feature doubled up flat, tied down tinsel leads stock. ----- The Z v.3 features the same proven cooling design of the SA series Spider is a high quality 4-layer high nomex content unit : Cone / dust cap are like the SA-15 : ------ We will keep building the NS v.2 here -- but anything smaller will be built alongside the SA series. We can't keep up with all the orders anymore building two lines Both a good and bad thing!
  5. Will be updating this as we move along building one of each. Each one will be relatively fresh with ~5 minutes of break-in time playing low frequencies on our bench 1500D. Amount of break-in between coil configurations isn't necessarily identical -- check CMS, a lower number indicates the suspension is still tighter. 9. Glad I didn't sell the ol' Jeep... I took a small portion of the day to actually mess around with my own setup so I don't go crazy and hate stereos *laughs* I am building the back battery / amp rack for a forward firing SSNW setup and I was initially scared that it would hurt my scores with the Magic Box until I start on that -- of course I haven't clamped power yet... but this is the best score I've ever done with an SA-15. What I'm using is a Dual-2 copper coil SA-15 that I used to measure T/S for the official spec sheet I made -- this one is identical to the production run due next month; which only differs from what we sell now in that it has a shorting ring and a different shape pole flare. I am going to try another click soon but had to share this before I risked tearing the woofer up  Video is in process of uploading to YouTube.

Jeep is Back... One SA-15 / 153.5 dB

Yep, 53 Hz I call it the Magic Box as I've yet to put any sub in it in any vehicle that it won't do a 150 with utilizing minimal tweaking and fair power... with bigger subs it will break 150s with under 1500 watts in the Jeep and as low as 1200 watts in my CRX.

    SA-8 v.2 Prototype Video

I am going to bring in a very small run (less than 100 units) of the v.2 subs to test and send around to some folks to see what everyone can do with them While we keep working towards the v.2 the v.1 will remain available for a while as I'm still not 100% happy with the v.2

    Amplifier Stock News (Announcement Inside)

Little more information for you guys... We expect about 1500 more watts than the actual output of the SAZ-4500D on a 12v system... output section was expanded from 16 to 24 MOSFETs (same part # units) so it is extremely over-built in this regard. I have a few more bases to cover on it but more information soon and also prototypes in the works

YouTube - Sundown Audio SA-15 7,300 watt Burp 153.6db YouTube - Sundown Audio SA-15 7,300 outlaw burp 156db Power was clamped this weekend -- ~7300 watts legal and Outlaw. Sub is just fine. I was a bit worried about Outlaw as I didn't test it until that video at the show -- was not sure how it would load -- but the SA-15 proved itself again !

    SA-8 Updates -- 4/15/11

Few updates : 1) I am running a full container load of the v.1 SA-8s to meet demand -- these will be in stock in July. So we'll be sold out for a bit as the massive amount we just got recently are already nearly depleted. 2) This run of v.1 models will have the v.2 frame on them -- as there are reasons beyond cosmetic for the frame. They will be fully compatible with any SA-8 with the newest surround and spider, though. From the front will look no different either. 3) Once these are gone then we'll work on launching the v.2 models -- R&D is almost done on them. But they should be out around August to September. Sean will be up next week to try out the latest SA-8 v.2 sample -- I feel like it is probably where it needs to be for launch but we want to make sure before actually putting them out to the public so I am making a massive v.1 run as I mentioned to hold us over

Jeep is Back... One SA-15 / 153.5 dB

Well that is all the SA-15 has in it as it sits ! I tried another +1 and did the same 153.7 but the graph was all nasty on it. That is all the testing I can do for today -- gotta get back to work ! I may try moving things around and whatnot next time I get a chance to work on it.
