I decided to go through our fabled "sea of woofers" and try to get some of this stuff sold... we hired a new guy, Pedro (my cousin), and he organized it a bit to make even thinking about selling it manageable. First... the fabled sea in a somewhat organized form... I cannot get it all in one photo but you get the idea : It goes farther left and right. On the the yard sale! I am not interested in re-building ANY of these items before shipping them out due to time contstraints -- refer to a service like FixMySpeakeror your favorite custom builder for that -- I can ship directly to either if you like. * TRF Motor and Basket - $350 shipped in continental 48 states * MINI NEO MOTORS - $250 each shipped in continental 48 states * One is built as a sort of rigged up 8" for some testing we did * These are XBL^2 enabled motors made for 12-layer flat coils... which I do have a few of in stock for $20 each on coils * These do come with the baskets as pictured * 3" Coil Ferrite Motors with 3" coil opening - $125 each shipped in continental 48 states * These do come with the baskets as pictured * RE SE Motor and Basket - $75 + SH * SMD 15" Dual-1 - $600 + SH * 5x Z v.1 15" w/ baskets - $125 + SH * Some may work, I don't know, sold as-is * DD 3518 Working but looks like crap - $100 + SH * Works but dust cap is smashed badly * 5x NS v.1 Motors with baskets and soft parts - $150 + SH each * Complete subs May or may not work - sold as-is * "X-12" Motors and baskets -- like 3" coil SA -- $100 + SH each * Oddball Neo prototype with 8-layer 2.5" coil - $200 + SH * Motor strength turned out low... has high Qts * Good for sealed box or display purposes; has huge internal shorting ring as well ---- THERE IS MORE... but I don't have time to list it all right now. I'll update this as items are sold.

Had a customer send in a pair of BTL 15s for me to re-build -- first time seeing the new UFO style BTLs in person. Very large and heavy motor on these guys -- also looks like they started using four separate magnets on these rather than a single large slug; presumably to prevent potential defects in the big slug. In any event -- on to the to re-build... the original failure was a burnt up tinsel lead on one of the drivers... so I am using our double lead Z v.2 spiders on the re-builds. * Original Failure Point * I am using a Z v.3 coil -- it is similar in dimension to the BTL stock coil but it is 8-layers vs. 4-layers on the BTL coil... it is 60mm WW vs. 64mm WW on the original. Performance should be very similar in the end, though. * I used a rear triple joint ring from the Z v.3 line on these. * Original rear triple joint - just a bit dusty. * Original basket spacers - these are here to make room for the extended top plate neck on this driver. * Using these nuts to get the spacing right while waiting on the machined spacers. ----- They are made of Delrin -- a super hard resin material : Acetal Resin | DuPont ™ Delrin ® ----- Based on customer input these will have two Z v.2 spiders and a Nightshade cone to go with the Z v.3 coil and triple joint ring The new spacer was needed to make clearance for the triple joint ring so it will not hit the extended neck on the top plate. --- * Double Leads * Spacer installed. * Split magnet * Going to poke leads through, solder, and finish top triple joint this morning. This is the first one -- second one will be the same. --- T/S specs measured after short break-in period - should extend nice and low for the customer : RE: 2.0 ohms Fs: 31.8 Hz Qes: 0.33 Qms: 7.66 Qts: 0.32 Le: 2.59 mH Vas: 64 L BL: 18.3 NA Mms: 267g Cms: 93 uM/N Sens: 89.76 dB 1w/1m

Got this truck through some horse trading... current setup was tested to do 154.3 dB @ 61 Hz with two Z15s and a clamped power of 5000 watts total. I want a more efficient setup so I am tearing it all down! Some pics of the current setup with the cap off and starting to tear down : Old wall has a great baffle - 7 layers thick - but the outside is too thin. It is one layer of MDF with super dense foam sandwiched between that and a thin layer of wood (I had that peeled off before the pics). It does have concrete above the front chamber, though, so that is not too bad. All in all I think it could be better so I am going to rip it out!

Measured the specs. Modeled sealed box response is super deep; this coil would do some work in IB in 10s and 12s and also great for moderate sized sealed. Re : 7.25 ohms Le : 1.08 mH (super low for an 8 ohm nominal on a 3" coil) ** Fs : 34.1 Hz Qts : 0.75 Qms : 4.23 Qes : 0.91 Vas : 31 L BL : 19.75 Cms : 95.18 uM/N Sens : 83.1 dB 1w/1m Mms : 228 grams Linear x-max 70% BL : 22mm one-way ** Morel Ultimate with 2-layer coil is 1.33 mH with only 12.5mm x-max So this coil worked out great for moderate to large sealed or IB -- I am putting it in small sealed to see how I like it. More linear drivers such as this tend to sound great even with a high Qtc sealed (see SI BM MKIII). The other coil will have more wire in the gap so should drop Qts and Fs too (as it's heavier). These speakers are with MINIMAL break-in as well.

I played it a bit free-air this morning and it works; I was pleased with that as the gap to the pole is less than an RE MT *laughs* I do need to take note next time when assembling it that the surround pulled the coil forward a bit when I glued it together... need to start a few mm back when assembling it. Looks like 3-4mm or so off forward. Light little coil (80 grams) and soft spider cannot overcome the surrounds desire to pull forward a bit Should still get a good idea of performance and specs, though -- I need to re-build it with the other coil type anyway after a bit of testing
-
Should be ready to test tomorrow... I have the SAX-200.4 in my car to run this @ 2 ohms bridged on
-
First iteration sample coils are in -- I am going to try two versions of the coil to see which I like the best / works the best. Very light... very low inductance... so likely spider will be very soft as well to get the FS where I want it. Holding the coil in my hand I think I should use one NS style spider to get where I want to be with it.

sundownz replied to insul's topic in Test 1, 2, 3...
Not until our next shipment; Taco & Paco tested every subwoofer in our warehouse and found all the b-stocks. -
Get Loud / Sound Good just like the whole NeoPro line. For SQ I'd look into a more traditional 6.5" with higher linear x-max and a bit more mid-bass output.

UPDATED TODAY 7/11/11 with amps and subs !

Updated list. Getting low on the subs. -
One sure way to take out the amp is for a speaker wire to come loose and touch ground -- if that happens the amp will be damaged and if you replace the fuses they will blow.
-
I will be testing several other E series models before it goes forward as I'd like to launch a few at once. Stay tuned.

As much as I love the beast that is the 200.4 it's our lowest selling model. We are teaming up with WoofersEtc.com to get this closed out -- keep your eye on their site for them to be added at a special price. I am saving one for my personal car as it's an awesome amp -- so if you wanted one get in touch with WoofersEtc.com soon

Just to fill you guys in... I've been working on a TON of things for Sundown for the future... hoping to see many of these things next year! I am going to discuss woofer related plans here... things I didn't really mention much in the "New Stuff Coming to Sundown" thread. ----- As you can see the E8 v.2 is available for pre-order now -- I am going to fill out the E line with 10s and 12s. Like the SA line the 8" motor is unique in the line... the 10s and 12s will have a larger motor, smaller than the SA series, though, but also with a 2.5" coil. The coil will be shorter and the depth of the 10" model will be around 4.25-4.5" or so for depth restricted applications. They will be rated for 400-watts RMS and will feature less advanced cooling methods than the SA series due to the lower rating and lower price. I am debating 15s in this line... if they are made it won't be until a later time. ----- I have already released most that there is to know about the SA series development. We have the new spacer ring that is to replace the drilled basket vent holes. I may not have mentioned that I also re-designed the pole cap for enhanced cooling as well. Simply a shape and size change... not too major. The above two are for 10s, 12s, and 15s only -- not the 8s. Of course without either of these modifications the SA series already WELL exceeds it's rated power capacity -- as is highly documented all over by this point. I simply decided to take it to the next level as I am a speaker nerd and that is what I do! They will be fully "backward compatible" with older units as the changes are to air flow only... no spec changes. For the SA-8 I have tooled up a new surround that is 5mm taller, 5mm wider, and twice as thick. It is a softer foam, though, so compliance has not changed and SPL output also did not change at all -- not even 0.1 dB. I simply wanted THE best surround on an 8" woofer so I tooled my own Here is a comparison : New on the left -- old on the right. Those will be coming out within the next few months. You can run them with "older" ones no problem as I have mentioned the specs don't change in any significant fashion. I have and will continue to test anything I can think of to further improve the SA series without making them more expensive... since many of the ideas won't make production if they have no benefit in my testing I won't talk about them just yet. ----- I haven't said much about this at all... but I am developing a 1000-watt series. It looks almost just like the SA series motor (same height motor, basket, etc) but it is 20mm wider and used a 3" voice coil (of course a wider spider comes with that). What is not seen is an added aluminum shorting ring inside the motor. Therefore all of our subs 1000-watts on up will feature a shorting ring. The coil will remain a 4-layer copper round wire as with the SA series -- customers really like the low-end extension! I still have a good bit of testing to go before releasing more information, specs, etc... but I am working on something to bridge the gap from the SA to the Z series! This series will be available in 10s, 12s, 15s, and 18s over time... will likely be introduced one size at a time as with the SA series. They will come out of the gate with the latest SA features (magnet boots, new pole cap design, new basket spacer ring, etc). Thinking about using the "X" designation as I've applied to several prototypes in the past. Only very early work is done on these... so don't expect them until later in 2011 unless something changes dramatically. ----- I am working on several things on the big boy woofers... not much I am ready to talk about yet, though I am ALWAYS testing new things though! ----- Obviously I am toying with several Neo woofers designs... the other lines do hold priority over dedicated SPL products but I am an enthusiast as well so I haven't forgotten about you guys! ----- Anything I am missing that people want to see from Sundown in the woofer lines ? We are looking at 5 main lines : E, SA, X, Z, and Nightshade I am also prototyping three Neo motors (may or may not be released), a Monster v.2 concept motor (may or may not be released), and an ultra linear SPL motor (flat BL topology, large ferrite motor). These are fun projects that may or may not end up being made - perhaps in limited production if they are - and I'll have more details on them as time goes on. Anyway... just thought I'd get it out there as I do enjoy discussing future products!

I have a TON of things always in the works... you may see that one day; but not immediately. Figured I'd bring this back from the dead to show people we are moving along with plans
