We put a set in a customers car today and they are stupid loud... awesome mid-bass output as well; I was actually pretty stunned by how much they were putting out. We have about 200 RMS rated per side on them and 200 RMS rated on a set of Selenium ST-350 tweeters; two bridged (8 ohms bridged per pair of channels) 4-channel full-range Class-D prototype amps (no ETA, no price, don't ask, *laughs*).

Power is not necessarily identical between them -- specific power wasn't a concern. It's near-field really close to the cone, though, for reference. There was no baffle for the test.

Depends on when I start production (Neo Costs) on price -- the bad news is they won't be cheaper than the 8s or 10s unless Neo falls before I start production. Cost is way up and we'll have to re-price the 8s and 10s for the second run (good news on those is I got a TON of them when Neo was cheaper so that will be a while). They are 100 RMS like the 8s.

Sundown SD-2 10/12 "500-Watt" Subwoofer Pre-Order
sundownz replied to sundownz's topic in Sundown Audio
Production should be wrapping up August 25th so by the time containers are loaded and they arrive to my door we are looking at the third or fourth week of September to arrive here (last container took ~30 days from sailing to arrive at our shop) -- so all is looking good. -
I shipped some 10s for California for SSA last Friday; I imagine they could be yours.

Below text compose by Mike Bruno for the sale of these drivers. We are not re-building them; Mike is. All after sales support will be handled by Mike by his terms on these refurbished drivers. PM: woofercooker – or preferably – e-mail: [email protected] for inquiries. ---------- I will be selling Sundown’s inventory of SA-8s that have either failed quality control testing or were returned by customers. Each of these woofers were tested by Jacob and found to have a defect in the coil alignment or other cosmetic / performance defects. I will be refurbishing these woofers with the latest OEM SA-8 parts and reselling them to the public. Many of these have never been mounted or powered other than to check for coil alignment or other defects; some are warranty returns so will be used motors, though. Buyers will receive 100% fully functional refurbished Sundown Audio SA-8 woofers. As I said, some of these have been used before so there may be some signs of use on the motors. The baskets and soft parts are all guaranteed to be brand new. Available in D2 and D4 coils. As mentioned in the for sale all I could recall was high Qts on it -- we had good luck out of it in about 1 cube sealed despite what a box model program says that will do Nick Lemons (Stereo Integrity) borrowed it for a while and reported that it was an enjoyable listen.

Orders ship in a few business days. By big order we mean the SA-8 pre-orders; of which there were a few 100 pieces to test and ship out. There are not 100 people in the shipping and testing departments; only so many boxes can be pulled, tested, and labelled in the same day. Your order will ship out shortly (eg: today).

All SA-8 pre-orders have shipped.

D2 is together... specs are closing in on where I want to be -- based on what I got from this D2 I think the D1 coil should be correct out of the gate and that the D2 will be good with a tad bit of tweaking : D2 Revision 1 Coil Specs with 5-layer Z v.3 spider (Z v.3 uses 4 layers) : RE : 2.93 ohms (series) FS: 36.87 Hz QES: 0.329 QMS: 4.326 QTS: 0.306 LE: 6.53 mH (still a bit high but we'll work on the shorting rings on another prototype to get this down) VAS: 43.24 L BL: 28.128 NA MMS: 383 g CMS: 48.56 uM/N SENS: 89.93 dB 1w/1m BL^2/RE: 270 (goal is 300 or so for this driver... revised coil should do it) I'll do some beating on it soon... have tons of SA-8s to ship... took a short break to pull specs and post them.

I'm sure that would be possible.

I hate spades as well -- but the push terminals are super close to the mounting lip, seem to get damaged easily, and also are much harder to bend down than the other sizes (may cause production issue).
-
Some pics from the latest production run that was recently on pre-order that is due end of July to first of August. These have all of the updates to date on the v.1 plus : 1) New slightly taller spacer ring with full Sundown logo (few mm extra for SPL burps) 2) New revised cast frame with better clearances They are compatible with other SA-8s made to date as these are still a v.1 model.

Once I get them made we'll have plenty; we haven't ran out of the 8s or 10s yet Just a matter of time on them.

So an interesting project came my way... a client asked me to try out some of the NeoPro speakers for Guitar purposes... which I have had a few folks try them for bass guitar and like them but not regular electric guitar. Client comes back to me stating the NeoPro drivers are entirely too clean and then lends me an old vintage speaker that he considers the "driver to have" for this application -- which is tube amplifier electric guitar. So I analyzed it a bit... and came up with this : * Ribbed, thin paper cone with very small dust cap * Actual paper surround - one piece with the cone * Low excursion spider with completely un-vented frame * Un-vented motor Many of the design elements are to purposely introduce distortion -- as this is what Guitar guys seem to like. In any event... I am not a guitar player so I won't have more thoughts until the client tries it out and lets me know. You never know... we may be doing Guitar speakers if all goes well
-
Some more actual pics now that I have them... I may go to the old style spade connectors for the 6.5" as the sprint terminals don't work as well on this frame as the other sizes... but otherwise pretty happy with them so far :
