    302's (edit: 307's)

If they are flush to the side, which means putting them off-axis then they will do okay as long as you use some EQ on the ~3k area to make up for the off-axis roll-off.

    302's (edit: 307's)

The 307 and 327 comps are more suited for kick-panel installs. The 302s were specifically designed for door installs and door installs ONLY. K-mart is correct though, they have been discontinued. SI is going to stick to extremely high end comp sets only for a while.

    15" SI-D2 review

The 18" woofer was my dream come true... sadly it won't make it to production *sighs*

So you guys like 8"s huh :)

That surround worked best to provide the proper mass and compliance. It was also a readily available part. And don't forget that the surround also displaces air... it's not totally subtracted from the Sd of the driver. If the part works, use it The RE drivers are insanely inefficient, might have something to do with them having nearly the same MMS as our 12" D2. But they are awesome little drivers for the price. They go low and work in small boxes, and people like them. Our driver is aimed at a different market sector. More efficient, lower THD, and MUCH more high frequency extension. Got some T/S on that 8" of yours by chance?

Where is the button for 4 15s ?!
  6. Shipping damage I assume ? Thats the worst... Did you let Nick know already ?

The surround choice is not necessarily entirely dictated by excursion. Mass, compliance, and effects on frequency response must be figured in with a broad range driver like the 8" SI. This particular surround worked to make the design function as desired.
  8. K-Mart has them or will have them, I'm not sure which FYI, they are excellent. We had a customer switch out Focal Utopias for the 307s and not look back. The 327 is basically a larger 307, can't go wrong there.

    SI D2 15s = Loud

My buddy Brandon got a pair of D2 15s installed yesterday. This morning he wired up his MA Audio MA5082HX amp up to them -- their 4000-watt Class A/B amp from two model years ago. 2 ohms is not the optimal load for the amp, but no matter... with -32dB earplugs in my ears are still tingling. We drove up to a local stereo shop to use their meter, which is horribly uncalibrated so don't use these numbers to compare to anything... his car pulled a 148 dB score. Get this... the shop has a van with no less than 28 Memphis Depth Charge 10" subs in a wall and a Memphis MOJO amp and that only pulls a 152 dB score. So 4 dB off 28 10s with a pair of 15s in a stock Explorer , no wall, isn't half bad

    Mounting 302's ?????

Specify to Nick that this is what you will be doing so he can make sure to glue everything down extra good

    SI D2 15s = Loud

My friend is running ~3 ft^3 each tuned to ~35 Hz in a box that a natural disaster could not destroy. The shop has 30 ft^3 sealed for their 28 10" woofers.

    Anybody live in mooresville?

Steve, If you see a white explorer with SI Stickers on it you should stop him and ask to listen to it Nick heard it last night with only 350-watts per 15... now he's hooked up his 36" MA Audio MA5082HX and left me a message this morning that he's afraid he's gonna hurt himself with it.
  13. sundownz

    hmm

Nick will be shipping all orders ASAP, so I'd expect very very soon.

    What I've been busy with

Nick was born building a subwoofer box... lets put it that way. Me, I didn't know what a woofer even WAS until 5 years ago.

    What I've been busy with

Looks awesome Nick I'd of started on my A-Pillar tweeter mounts by now had I not broken my tweeters! Hoping that by next week I'll be at least aiming the tweets.

    No more "Magnum"s

The new logo MIGHT put the SI D2 ahead of the Funky Pup... I think Dan Wiggins put it best: "The goal of every super sub builder is to eclipse the current king, the Funky Pup. No one may get there, but we keep trying..."

    Fiberglassing...

Fiberglass boxes get expensive. The Resin is the most expensive part by far, and mat gets expensive if you make the box very thick. Plus all the brushes and other misc tools you need. Determining the volume can be tricky... but you can estimate and even within a 10% or so tolerance is barely if at all audible even in ported box.

    almost ready to pound

Peel and Seal from Lowes Hardware has worked great for me. Also, Raamat is a great product and I'm also certain it's much less expensive than Second Skin. We used a combo of P&S and Raamat on Nick's car when we did his trunk -- it worked great.

    does a mag run in....?

The magnum 12 and 15 are both DVC 2 ohm. What do you mean by, "up there?" Are you talking about sales? SI is a new company for one, and we don't have the advertising budget or the dealer network of those companies

    Amp for 2 15 D2's

"Scuba Steve" is using a Rockford Power 1501BD to power his pair of Magnum 15s and it works quite well... You can get that and a matching Power 2-channel in your budget. 1501BD for $480 shipped http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW 551S for $209 shipped http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3096234559&rd=1

    Fiberglassing...

Alot of people use MDF rings for the woofer cut-out area and do a basic frame with strips of MDF and/or dowels then stretch fabric over it.
