In order to get to where I REALLY wanted to be with this sub thats the way it went. I wanted to make it pretty much bulletproof when a pair is attached to an SAZ-1500D

Little teaser... simulated BL curve for the v.3 prototype. 23.84 mm Linear x-max by 70% BL method.

It is on the way

The market seems to be apprehensive about adopting a small and efficient SQ speaker, seems that most consumers are interested in putting huge power into woofers these days So... the SD-1 model is being closed out and discontinued due to sluggish sales. They will still carry full warranty as I will hold onto some of them for warranty replacements: http://www.sundownaudio.com/ppsd10.html -- 10" Model Information http://www.sundownaudio.com/ppsd12.html -- 12" Model Information These subs actually perform very well but have really been slow sellers... see some first hand reviews here: http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...?showtopic=9883 http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...?showtopic=9264 ---- Pricing is as follows: Shipped Prices are to Continental 48 states 1x 10" SD-1 will be $65.00 shipped 2x 10" SD-1s will be $120.00 shipped ($60 each) 4x 10" SD-1s will be $225.00 shipped ($56.25 each) 1x 12" SD-1 will be $75.00 shipped 2x 12" SD-1 will be $137.50 shipped ($68.75 each) 4x 12" SD-1 will be $250.00 shipped ($62.50 each) Ask about higher quantities... also ask about shipping rates outside of the continental 48 states. This will run until the end of August and the winner will be drawn on September 1st. Each one gets you an entry... buy four and get four entires. RAFFLE IS OVER! Andrew Mitchell won the SAX-100.2 amplifier. The sale will continue but the raffle part is done, thanks to those who entered! ---------- Want a cheap and easy solution for sealed enclosures for the SD-1 subs? http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=260-646 * Dual 10" box with near perfect volume for $35.20 + shipping http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=260-648 * Dual 12" box with near perfect volume (just add 2-3 pounds poly per side) for $49.40 + shipping

I run two SD-1 10s in my daily car on an SAX-100.2 with no subsonic filter, and I have been for quite some time. So yes, I would suggest that you don't really need one. Just use common sense and don't play 20 Hz sine waves at full volume and you won't have any issues --- I still have SD-1s in stock, in case anyone was wondering!

First inspection showed that one of the legs on one of the filter inductors was broken. My bet is that this happened after installation due to some kind of bump or jarring since both of them were charred, so something had to be running through that one for at least a while to char it as well as the other -- which makes me think it wasn't shipping. Likely scenario... it got jarred and broke the leg after the part was already hot, increasing the load on the other part thus finishing it off. Just a guess at this point. Now I need to know why the inductors were too hot to begin with. My first assumption would be that somewhere in the amp there was a weak solder joint, other than the inductor, which broke loose and caused the whole scenario. Could be a fluke, could be something I need to address for QC inspection in production. I'll be looking into it further, this is why I do so many prototypes Anyhow... I'll make sure that those filter inductors receive plenty of silicone for production much like the SAZ amps. I would bet it's just a case of the part being jarred around without adequate physical support, which would not be his fault at all.

Actually what size are the power/neg terminals? 4awg? I am not going to put it in probably until I get my new CDT ES Comps from James as he is building a set of kicks for my Titan. Will also have to get the 100.2 soon and make an amp rack on the back wall. This is going in an 04 Titan King Cab, had a mostly eD setup in previously but once I got the kicks on order everything took an upgrade. They are 4 awg terminals, yes.

Yah, thats about right
-
Yessir, you are correct.

There is no reason to compare the two, they are totally different. The new BM is an excellent SQ driver by design. It isn't made to be hit with tremendous power as the suspension will reach the full 16mm of linear travel with very little power. It *needs* far less power than the old BM, although it can handle just as much thermally it will reach full x-max long before the old design would. When I listened to the new BM it was one of the best sounding subs I have listened to other than the Mag. The old BM is a nice sub too... but the X series has a larger coil, more x-max, and thus costs more. It will be ahead of the old BM in most any category and should sound just about as good. In case you missed the part about this woofer being upgraded tremendously due to the length of this thread -- compared to the initial prototypes, it is being completely changed and MSRP is going up a good bit from the original projection as my build cost has went up a great deal. The new design will handle 1000 watts RMS without issue... and that will likely be the rating, although, with the size of the coil and surrounding steel parts it will have the ability to handle much more than that.
-
Are you going to tell them what it is?
-
Absolutely The Mag is pretty much #1 in my book for the SQ, and the new BM in the works is right up there with the Mag. Most of the subs I'm working on will sound good, but SI subs tend to be more pure SQ with output as a secondary goal. This woofer in particular is designed for great output first with SQ second... it'll sound good but it's not made to be a Mag

I am a huge fan of bi-amping, and I feel that you would love the results This will give you much more flexibility to fine tune the crossover point and the tweeter level. I would say go for it 100% if it's in your budget.

* NINE.2 Internal Photo * SAX-100.2 Internal Photo Use your judgment You don't have to be an expert to see the difference here. --- As for the SAE-1000D to the NINE.1 -- the NINE.1 is actually a more powerful amplifier, so swapping here doesn't make as much sense.

Which doesn't mean he knows everything about car audio. One of the loudest guys in the US in Street dB drag got there by "guess and test" over many many years. Yes, his numbers are awesome... doesn't mean he knows everything about audio, just means he has lots of patience and dedication. Nothing wrong with that... but you get the idea. Which guy in the us are you talking about? It doesn't really matter Could be anyone, eh? It's how the SPL scene developed, guess and test. Hey... lets put the subs forward, ports back... BURP. Yep, thats louder... COOL! Anyhow... this thread has outlived it's usefullness as I am sick of this ridiculous crap coming from this small group of Canadian SPL competitors.

Using super advanced technology I determined a random number for the winner... I sent an IM to four random people that I know and said "pick a number between 1 and X" (x being the number of SD-1s sold so far). I then averaged the numbers: Person 1 - 7 Person 2 - 13 Person 3 - 12 Person 4 - 13 Average = 11.25 Andrew Mitchell purchased SD-1s # 11 - 14... therefore it is in his range and he wins the SAX-100.2 ---------- The SD-1 blowout sale will continue but the raffle is done Thanks for playing.

Read my post over there... he was on here hating as well, has no idea what he's talking about. He's from the Canadian Car Audio forums.

There was no mention made I will give out more details when the new 12" prototype comes in, which supposedly should be soon.

Really depends... in general the strapped pair will be slightly less efficient but in some instances, and I don't know exactly why, people are slightly louder when the amps are strapped. *Usually* un-strapped is louder but requires careful gain matching.
-
Hah, some people do like a nice looking sub too Basically, what I'm thinking is that I want them to have the same general color scheme as the amps. Black cone, chromed basket, and a black motor structure (like the amps with the silver stripe down the center) -- it was supposed to have an anodized black motor on the prototype but the build house made a mistake. Doesn't cost me any more to have the basket chrome as it would to have it finished in black, otherwise I'd consider it a waste of money.

I will release the winner of the 100.2 on Monday
-
Indeed, they are a nice, quality smaller sized SQ driver I am running two of the tens in my Civic and they are great. Of course, sales were slow since people wouldn't give em' a chance since they look so "plain."
-
Hah... the original proto did have a chrome basket which I broke trying to get the spider ring off Looked pretty good too, not sure if I'll do it for production yet.

Shipping weight is 28 pounds on the 3000D and 15 pounds on the 100.4 (w/ packing)... so something like 35 - 38 pounds or so for both amps alone.
