    Nightshade Pre-Sale?

Kind of just made it up I was going through cool names that sort of went along with "Sundown" or a similar theme and that one popped into my mind.

You could use both and stack the slopes if you like This would be especially helpful to lower distortion on the tweeter.

    Nightshade Pre-Sale?

Okay, I'm going to go ahead and start the sale for those interested. See the new sticky thread.

    Nightshade Pre-Sale?

Yep, that is shipped in the continental USA. Only a limited number of pre-orders will be accepted due to the extremely low price -- I just want to get some out in the hands of customers so that word gets out

    SD-1 v.2 10" Pre-Order OPEN

This will be arriving right around the time the pre-sale ends, plus or minus a few days! Production is done and they are shipping to me next week.

    Nightshade Pre-Sale?

Seems that people are demanding that I open the sale now... since plenty of people are willing to wait the pre-sale price will be as follows: 12" Model D1 or D2 - $350 shipped in continental USA (MSRP = $549) 15" Model D1 or D2 - $390 shipped in continental USA (MSRP = $599) I will only allow a limited number of pre-orders at this pricing as it is very low for a sub of this build and quality (especially shipped, this thing is a monster). This sub features USA made soft parts and voice coil and final assembly in the USA! These will be ready sometime in February, I cannot give an exact date or guarantee they may not be a week or two late -- that is the nature of a pre-sale. But for your patience you get a great price

    Nightshade Pre-Sale?

Well, the cone / surround (on the front) are not quite production quality, hence the lack of pics Once my new soft parts come in there will be pics -- the surround width / height is roughly the same as other subs like the FI BTL and whatnot, though. If Chad has any pics of the spider he can post em up.

    Nightshade Pre-Sale?

Indeed... didn't want to take too many as the cone wasn't quite production I should have the production cone (minus logo) before too much longer... but it's a black cone with a "boob" plastic black dust-cap, it will have "Sundown Audio" printed just like the SD-1 v.2 model.

    Nightshade Pre-Sale?

Team members can e-mail me for the Team price -- they can also pre-order at any time whether or not I start the pre-order for the general public now or not.

    Nightshade Pre-Sale?

My good camera died and Chad has it at the moment (with a pre-production cone), but I'll work on that

    Nightshade Pre-Sale?

Official rating is 1500 watts -- the original prototype was burped up to 7kw at tuning without damage, and finally gave out with a 10kw burp. These have a substantially better spider and cone as well as a much beefier coil and larger motor in general So, quite a bit to say the least. I suggest the SAZ-1500D on one daily as a great setup that you'll never have to worry about -- these aren't so stiff it's ridiculous so a 1500 watt amp will get them moving. You could strap a pair of 1500Ds for competition no problem... even a pair of 3000Ds if you know what you are doing (warranty doesn't cover a fried coil).

    Nightshade Pre-Sale?

Mid to upper 300s on the pre-sale. MSRP is $549 on the 12" and $599 on the 15" so that sort of price wouldn't be seen again

    Sundown Audio Nightshade Numbers

what type of cost are we talkin Jacob if you dont feel like postin it up email or call me E-Mail me for Team cost.
  19. We put the Nightshade in Sean's truck and beat the crap out of it with 4x SAZ-1500Ds at 1/2 ohm nominal each (about 1.15 ohm each with impedance rise): * 4.5 ft^3 box tuned to around 35 Hz or so (same box from SDE post) * Front of the woofer in the "wall" setup Peak was at 54 Hz and SPL is as follows: 40.9 watts @ 133.0 dB 141.1 watts @ 137.8 dB 311.3 watts @ 140.7 dB 513.4 watts @ 142.7 dB 811.5 watts @ 144.5 dB 1731.2 watts @ 146.9 dB 2845 watts @ 148.1 dB 4505 watts @ 149.2 dB 7081 watts @ 151.2 dB -- Still gained 2 dB at this point, very little compression The next step blew one coil on the Nigthshade... so we didn't get any more SPL readings. Our meters don't have peak hold so I only got the voltage reading down before the current meter hit zero (coil opened up, didn't short). Based on my voltage reading we estimate it to have been around 10,000 watts or so. Cause of death appears to have been slight coil rock. No problem as the next revision will be getting stiffer spiders, a stiffer cone, and a higher power handling coil. So next time around I am looking to burp at 10kw with no failure Scores are looking good all things considered. The box is heavily braced inside as it was made for two sealed 12" woofers. This creates turbulence and is bad for SPL. The port is also only 36 in^2 since it was just a hack job box for testing. PS: Sorry Rich! Don't worry... I'll be re-coning this to the new parts as soon as possible then you get your turn with it.

    Sundown Audio Nightshade Numbers

Production has began... They will be available as follows around February: 12" Sizes in D1 and D2 15" Sizes in D1 and D2 18" and 10" sizes will come later one. I will start a pre-order around January... unless people wanted to pre-order them now (don't mind the wait), I could go ahead and open it if enough request was present.

    Very little... about 0.04 ft^3

Help with controls on 1000D and 100.4

Set your HU LPF to the same, 80 Hz. 80 Hz is about 1/2 way up on the 1000D, it's a very popular setting. If you don't like the sound back it down about 1/8th turn

Help with controls on 1000D and 100.4

1000D: 1) It doesn't matter which way you do it, either way works the same. They are in parallel inside the amp. 2) Just nudge up the filter about 1/4 turn, that'll do it for ya. 3) Rarely will you need the phase, don't change it at all. 4) Yes, the far left set -- the other two are for strapping only. Left and Right do not matter. 100.4: 1) That will work fine. 2) Yes. 3) Yes, for your install. 4) Set the HPF on CH 1+2 to 1/4 turn up for the 5.25" set and on CH 3+4 to 50 Hz (all the way down). 5) Leave the range at x1 6) Yes, leave them alone. 7) Yes. 8) Turn these 1/3 way up for your install. It will give you a steeper HPF slope.

Avalanche 15 Coil Smell at 70 watts?

70 - 100 watts will still generate heat in any woofer. Less than 1% of the input energy moves the speaker cone in a typical subwoofer. Ever touched a 100-watt light bulb? It's VERY hot... and thats with a huge air gap and glass in between your finger and the filament. The woofer coil is much closer and directly physically connected to the dust cap, it will get hot without a tremendous amount of power given enough time.
