    Shallow Component Set

I've had my dealers asking me for years for a shallow component set so I started on one... here are some sneak peeks of the first sample set. We are testing them in Nick's car since he is a big SQ guy They are VERY shallow and will fit in any application I can imagine. For a driver this shallow excursion is not bad; obviously not a super high throw driver but crossover over steeply at 80 Hz will do nicely. So far we've tested the mid and we are very pleased for the depth and cost... Overall set price would be under $200 from an authorized dealer.

    Difference in Z models

Any v.2 threads would be pretty old -- it used a 4-layer aluminum or copper coil. The v.3 uses a bigger 8-layer coil and different soft parts -- more rugged.
  3. Newest production run arrived a few weeks ago -- we changed the output FETs to the same parts the newest 3500Ds are using (more powerful) and made a few other small tweaks. 0.5 ohm performance is now just as good as the v.1 1500D while maintaining the slightly better 1 ohm performance that we had already achieved on the v.2 model. I don't have any 1500D v.1s around the shop right now so I'm using previously tested data : 1500D v.1 POWER : 1970 Watts AMP VOLTAGE (measured) : 49.25 V AMP CURRENT (calculated) : 40 A ACTUAL IMPEDANCE (calculated) : 1.23 ohms SUPPLY VOLTAGE : 12.85 V 1500D v.2 POWER : 2030 Watts AMP VOLTAGE (measured) : 47.4v V AMP CURRENT (calculated) : 42.8 A ACTUAL IMPEDANCE (calculated) : 1.11 ohms SUPPLY VOLTAGE : 13.3 V So essentially identical performance within margin of error now on 0.5 ohm operation -- which is great since the v.2 is 1.6" shorter than the v.1 model was ! I'll have to get some 16v testing done too -- but I may wait until I actually have a v.1 model 1500D around to do it head to head. I'm sure I'll get one traded in again eventually.

    Sundown E-10/12/15 PRE-ORDER

Looking at these hitting the port in Savannah on the 9th or January -- I will be out of town upon their arrival but pre-orders should go out the week of the 16th as I'll be back on the 17th.

    !!! Sundown SA-8 v.2 PRE-ORDER !!!

2" -- but we are getting power handling like most 2.5" drivers from it (see thermal test)

    !!! Sundown SA-8 v.2 PRE-ORDER !!!

    Some more specs : Mounting Depth : 6 5/8" Cut-Out Diameter : 186.5mm (7.33") -- 7 3/8" should be snug. Weight : 22.5 lbs RMS Power : 500 RMS

    !!! Sundown SA-8 v.2 PRE-ORDER !!!

It is MUUUUUCH better ported but in a TINY sealed box the F3 is 70 Hz -- you would need to EQ up the bottom end which would be alright as the sub has plenty of mechanical and thermal headroom.

    !!! Sundown SA-8 v.2 PRE-ORDER !!!

It is based 100% on the cost to produce the sub -- I added ZERO dollars to cover my tooling investment in this driver (In the 5 digits dollar figure wise). Had I figured in tooling expenses and the 100s of hours of testing it would be $200+ easily. It is a pretty advanced driver in regards to assembly so MUCH more labor with spaced spiders, two triple joint rings, dual round lead wires, etc. All of these add up. I've built a few here at the shop for prototype testing and it takes me about 250% longer to build one than it does an SA-12 for reference. If you aren't in the market for a TOP of the line 8" subwoofer in terms of high bandwidth / low distortion output I would really suggest looking elsewhere -- I went all out on this design using no standard parts at all (except the dust cap). The only thing even CLOSE on the market is the JL Audio 8W7 and it is $400+ I am looking at making a third 8" in our line between the E8 v.2 and SA-8 v.2 to fill in the old price of the original SA-8

    Sundown NeoPro 6.5" Pre-Order

    1) I did... they factory assured me they can get them to sit straight up and down on production and there was no price break for doing the spade terminals... so we kept the push. 2) Yes. 3) Minimal.

    Sundown NeoPro 6.5" Pre-Order

I sent my last set home with Sean so I had him measure them real quick. Depth : 3" Cut-Out : 5 11/16"

    Sundown NeoPro 6.5" Pre-Order

We rate them 100 RMS like we do the 8s -- they have a 2" coil and excellent coil cooling, though. Most mids rated for 100 RMS would burn to the ground taking what these do thermally... the rating is more of a conservative mechanical rating for those that run them down to lower frequencies.

Got my PSI Passive Radiator -- What For ?!

They would work on the v.1s as well, yes.
  14. I got some photos of the prototypes in from my factory -- they are looking good. Of course the terminals will be bent down and whatnot in production. The motor is equal to the NeoPro-8 model. The only negative is that I am not sure how pricing will go on these Neo drivers -- Neo prices are going crazy and it may result in the NeoPro drivers rising in price. For reference... I got Neo quotes for my big Neo SPL motor and it was 300% higher than in 2009 -- no joke! BUT I will try to keep making them if possible as people really do enjoy them  We'll probably do some testing in Derrick's ride to see how they do.

    SAE-1200D V.2 burnt resistors/capacitor burnt?

I did but he stopped replying It's been like 5 days since i got a response so i was just going to get a Crescendo bc3500 and let you know about the 1200d but if it's under warranty might as well get it fixed and get a new amp later on when i planned to Working on e-mails this morning.

Production has not started on any SAE amps yet -- still in testing
  19. I will upload the video soon... will take a while as it's 9+ minutes long but the results really speak for themselves. We compared against a very well respected 2.5" coil driver rated for 600-watts RMS -- many people do run much more than that to this particular driver. The comparison was done simply to give a reference point. I was wondering if it was just me or if I wasn't even tickling this driver thermally with 800+ watts on tap in my car (SAX-200.4 two channels bridged at 2 ohms)... so the question is now answered -- I really wasn't even close to the thermal limits as this 60 Hz test is brutal with very little excursion. On music where the sub is moving 4-5x more the cooling is enhanced by more air movement. So that answered the question about whether my little spacer ring is or is not doing what I wanted it to do  So what this tells me is that I'll probably bump up my official rating to 500 RMS on the SA-8 v.2 -- and that the limit is really purely mechanical on them. I CAN get it to full x-mech on the 200.4 in my car at very low frequencies under box tuning.

    SAE-800D / 1200D / 50.4 Prototypes

No this one will NOT have fancy crossovers -- the old one did and it pushed the cost up too much and there simply weren't enough buyers for it. Will you/can you offer an amp without any crossover built in for those of us running active processors looking for inexpensive amplification? I'm not planning on making a separate line without any crossovers at all, no. The SAE amps will have significantly less features and you could just disable them.

    SA12 bottoming out

It's essentially impossible to "bottom out" the SA-12 -- you can get the suspension to "pop" if you hit the maximum level of throw which is going to be over an inch one-way If it's more of a tick check if your screws are backing out of the box -- an air leak can appear as a tick.

We have our 1500s back in stock so if you have pervasive problems we can simply replace it all together.
