I did get some sketches done of our proprietary 18" frame... which will be the very last one done likely towards the middle of 2013. The frame itself measures about 10.5" deep and supports 6" of p-p excursion. That is all the details on it for now =) Expect some more information on the 10/12/15 models in the next month or so.

I made a Dual-1 8-layer aluminum SPL coil unit for Sean with an extra spider... FS was 59Hz after some break-in so NOT good for a daily application. Due to the new ultra linear spider we have to get the FS starting out closer to the burp frequency as we lack the shift in CMS that causes FS rise with a less linear spider. Best score to date of 152.4 "outlaw" style with 3kw clamped power -- the most we've ever put to an SA-8 to date. The sub was really only at about 1/2-2/3 stroke as well -- where the old SA-8s were hitting the triple joint on the top plate before this point. We are very pleased as Sean's car mysteriously lost around 2dB a while back and we've had to come up with other things to gain that back... and now we've actually topped the old score without ever fixing whatever the mystery problem is (as we still don't know). Just for good measure we also plan to test with two spiders (standard) and the SPL coil to see if we really needed the extra spider. We also plan to try adding more power since we have more stroke left.

The container should be in port at Charleston on April 7th -- we USUALLY get it less than a week after that. So cross your fingers Once they come in I'll bring in a few extra helpers to test them as fast as possible to get them out to customers.

Sean's 150.8 dB from SBN.

NS v.2 with the new NS v.3 yellow spider pack in place. As is typical with our drivers they are designed to handle around the rated power in free air so the ratings are a "worst case" conservative rating. As you can see this pack has no issues with the 2500D and the measured FS is still 37 Hz with only about 4-5 minutes of play time on it.

The basket is 99% of the difference.

* SAE-800D, SAE-50.4, SAE-1200D * SAE-800D, SAE-50.4, SAE-1200D, SAX-1200D * SAE-1200D * SAE-50.4 * SAE-800D * 800D / 1200D * SAE-50.4 ----- The 800D did well and exceeding ratings but wasn't really THAT much stronger than the 500D -- so I likely will not end up making it. The 500D will be named 600D based on the testing results from it (over 700 after impedance rise). The SAE-1200D did very well, though, and is pretty much on par with the SAX-1200D in terms of power but not quite as small in size. So far what I have pricing worked out is like this : SAE-600D -- $200 MAP SAE-1200D -- $285 MAP SAE-50.4 -- $155 MAP Pricing from an authorized dealer. Testing on the amps so far : SAE-500D: 740 watts @ 2.16 ohms after rise (1.0) 860 watts @ 1.54 ohms after rise (0.5) SAE-800D: 810 watts @ 2.23 ohms after rise (1.0) 990 watts @ 1.60 ohms after rise (0.5) SAE-1200D: 1200 watts @ 2.51 ohms after rise (1.0) 1540 watts @ 1.68 ohms after rise (0.5) No testing on the 50.4 unit yet. --- These are NOT production cases -- just have not tooled ours yet. I do NOT have the ETA yet -- just sharing early data

NeoPro-8 models are now SOLD OUT. Also -- all NeoPro speakers will face a small price increase due to the Neo cost increases. The next run of NeoPro-8s will include 4 ohm models as well. We will have more in stock in June... the demand for these really snuck up on us exponentially rather than just a gradual increase so supply was literally pulled right out from under us! We should have more steady data on the demand in the future on these. New / Old Pricing : NeoPro-6.5 : $99 / NA NeoPro-8 : $105 / $99 NeoPro-10 : $129 / $115 The 10" has a much bigger piece of Neo in it so was more affected. If Neo goes back down in the future we'll adjust accordingly -- we may also offer an alternative Ferrite line for those that don't care about weight.

Very cool !

NS v.3 spider packs are in... the spiders are like the Z v.3 units but with an extra layer -- and the 15/18 models have triple leads. These will be standard issue on NS v.3 and optional on other models. They are yellow to immediatly identify them as the NS stiffness pack (5 layers) as opposed to Z v.3 (4 layers). I may even bring in a 6 or 7 layer pack for dedicated SPL purposes. Currently we use NS v.1 / v.2 spiders for SPL purposes stacked to the appropriate level.

Okay couldn't resist so I dropped two 2500s in and maxed it out : That was all she had -- any more and it would leave the gap. So I guess I didn't get my 150 but I'm not too sad over it

Been here all weekend with customers and whatnot anyway... so decided to drop one in the Jeep real quick. The Jeep hasn't had much love lately and I was using it to haul scrap metal for a while (hence the wooden truck bed) but I decided to break it back out. One 4500D @ 1 ohm with one extra SPV-70 for battery. My box has a pretty high rise so probably seeing 3-4 ohms or so actual on the amp so not a ridiculous amount of juice yet. Sub still has a good bit of usable throw remaining. So I guess the next phase is to actually put in a more usable battery setup for multiple amps and use two amps at 0.5 ohm to get the sub to full stroke. Not sure yet if that will get done today as I've been at the shop way too much recently, haha. I think 150+ is do-able with it.

Our standard models are always geared to music. SPL versions are what is optional -- we can do stiffer spiders and usually offer a more SPL oriented coil for most models.

It's over 150 dB on the dash now with the 3 spider woofer (which is quieter) due to some changes in the setup. Need to build another 2 spider woofer as we damaged the first one (4000+ watt burps on an eight can do that). More details later on

Welcome to Sundown Went live yesterday. The biggest upgrade is behind the scenes... the new software actually allows us to do more modifications so we don't need to bug our web guy (aka: taking forever for us to get around to it). I have already started filling in lots of missing information, pictures, and typing descriptions. Comments / big reports are welcome at this time. Some information is not there YET -- mounting data, specs, etc... that stuff is coming soon. We are absolutely slammed with woofer building so that takes a bit of a back seat. I may also get even more technical in the descriptions as well -- I am sure everyone enjoys that. Also the dealer locator is MUCH better -- go check that out for sure. The "News" page links directly to Facebook so it will no longer be stale -- it will get an update with Facebook every time.
-
I've also changed plans to 9x 15" woofers on a flat back wall -- 4th order band-pass. Figured this will be more efficient than parallel or even a clam-shell setup.

The SA-8 v.2 is a LARGE order of magnitude superior to the original SA-8 in terms of mechanical clearance, stability, and noise. Any output gains would be 35 Hz on down -- if that is what you want the v.2 is definitely for you. If your 8s move alot the v.2 will be a better driver overall. I don't think I have the original SAs. I have the version with the "8 leg" basket. How does the v.2 compare with the "8 leg" basket version? Comparison holds to any SA-8 made prior to the v.2

SAZ-1500, removing or modifying protection circuit?
sundownz replied to AmmoJammo's topic in Sundown Audio
But anyway... if you won't believe what a company has to say don't post in their section. The SAZ-1500D v.1 is not protect happy at all at 0.5 ohm -- perhaps you should ask yourself why that is... and the amp still has a protect circuit so it is not just bypassed. Thread closed.
