    Contacting Sundown

To ensure that contact is organized and prompt please read the following. DO NOT post on Facebook or the Forums to request order status, warranty information, or pricing. It is VERY difficult to know who you are or what you ordered this way. Forums and Facebook are designed to share new product information, customer installs, updates, etc and are not optimal for the aforementioned things. MAKE SURE you provide your REAL NAME somewhere on the e-mail -- if you are asking about an order make sure to tell us the name and e-mail on the Paypal payment as they very often do not match. For order status and tracking : [email protected] For basic pricing (including stock drop-ins) : [email protected] For odd-ball stuff (custom re-cones / parts) : [email protected] (be patient, my box gets bombarded) For dealer inquiries : Dealer Inquiry || request more information For warranty : RMA Form || request your RMA # here For general information / tech questions : Contact Us or [email protected] If you absolutely cannot reach us electronically and it's an emergency you can call. It is preferred to use electronic contact so there is a written record for future reference. If you do call; DO NOT call us 100 times in a row if you don't get an answer the first time -- leave a message and/or wait 15-20 minutes and try again. Someone is not beside the phone 100% of the time but someone is there most of the time. Again -- it is preferable to use the above contact before calling. Calling opens up significant room for errors and leaves no record of the conversation. 704-528-9700 : Ext 3

    Problems with my zv3

Just to make sure I understand : 1) How many Z v.3 12s do you have ? Just one ? 2) If you have just one woofer... you are in the region we suggest for TWO Z v.3 12s in a ported box with 3.7 cubes. You are using nearly 4x what we would suggest sealed for a single Z v.3 12" but I would really not suggest sealed as optimal as you will have a lacking bottom end compared to a woofer better for sealed and/or this woofer ported. These have very powerful motors geared towards ported and they will move ALOT in a super large box, especially sealed where there is no port to restrict movement around tuning.

Sundown : Revisiting Component Sets (Mid-Level)

I will consider a rubber boot around the magnet but I don't think I will do any plastic.

Sundown : Revisiting Component Sets (Mid-Level)

Making some progress on the finalized mid... the cone material turned out great on the first sample so we've moved onto the rest of the details : * Cone mounted on the new frame * Side view with the cast frame * Gap venting implemented... the finish is NOT final it is only for sampling. * The final finish will be smooth with chrome plating... will look VERY nice and also will be very corrosion resistant.

    Sundown NS-1 Pre-Order #2

I have been holding out opening this to make sure they won't take as long to make this time. The good news is they didn't as our special rectifiers are now in stock at our factory and production finishes next week. So this puts delivery time about 4-5 weeks from now. As of now I still have quite a few to go around but that could change at any time as I have had inquiries about some LARGE builds with these amps. $1500 pre-order price shipped in continental USA AK or HI add $100 for SH ($1600 total) USA ONLY. For international talk to your distributor. You can PAYPAL me at [email protected] or talk to you favorite local or online dealer to pre-order. These WILL NOT last more than a week or so after arrival so if you want one let me know. The NS-1 had a HUGE presence at SBN so anyone in attendance can confirm they are power-houses  The manual can be downloaded here: http://www.sundownaudio.com/misc/protos/NS-1_Amp/NS-1%20manual.pdf Rated Power : 6500 x 1 @ 1 ohm 12.20(W) X 2.68(H) X 27.56(L) inches As with all our manuals the rated voltage is listed as 14.4v but the amps easily meet spec at 12.8v as with our other models. * Built in fan LINKS TO SOME TESTING : Car Audio Classifieds There is quite a bit more floating around on the forums as well.

Sundown : Revisiting Component Sets (Mid-Level)

I think it will work out pretty well -- we will be doing some measurements once I get them put into my car.

    SAZ-2500D v.2 Prototype Completed

Oh I forgot to put supply voltage in... woops. On the lower power figures we had around 13-13.3v and at higher power 12.5v at the time of measurement (my meter reads about 3-5 seconds in to the tone)
  9. We should have it in a week or so to test ourselves; factory testing has went very well and it is meeting all of our design goals. Length without feet = 18.89" With the feet total length is roughly on par with the original version (20.15") -- then the case is of course narrower. So overall foot-print is down. Will get some side to side pics when the prototype gets here.

    SAZ-2500D v.2 Prototype Completed

12v clamp testing : 2420 @ 1.86 ohms 67.1v 36.06a 2490 @ 1.57 ohms 66.2v 42.1a 2750 @ 1.40 ohms 62.1v 44.3a 2950 @ 0.94 ohms 52.4v 56.3a Very pleased with that. It is right on par with the v.1 model -- we will do typical minor tweaks on production and maybe squeeze a few % more out of it. As usual this was done on my Extech power clamp; it reads power out directly very accurately. I use measured voltage to calculate amperage and then actual impedance. Once I get a handful of free time I will do a 16v round-up with all of the new prototypes.

    SAZ-2500D v.2 Prototype Completed

The amp is here at the shop : * The main capacitor bank now contains 160v units for maximum reliability at 19v operation. * As with the other new 2012 amps we have a fan * 16x IRF064N power supply MOSFETs (BEEF)

Sundown : Reference SQ Component Set

This is the type of driver we are aiming this set at : http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/scanspeak-woofers-6-7/scanspeak-illuminator-18wu/4741t-00-7-woofer-4-ohm/ Scan did the wide open design for good reason We are going as open as practical without getting quite so deep.

Sundown : Reference SQ Component Set

The motor would be too wide and heavy in Ferrite, IMO. We are trying to keep reflection on the motor down as well -- a big flat top plate and magnet right behind the cone isn't what we want.

Sundown : Revisiting Component Sets (Mid-Level)

What are you looking at for xover point? 3800 Hz -- which I suppose isn't high per-se but not low either

Sundown : Revisiting Component Sets (Mid-Level)

Some people will prefer a shallower slope on the LPF -- just a bit of choice for the end user.

Sundown : Revisiting Component Sets (Mid-Level)

Here is the frame I will be using on the set (cast aluminum) -- as I said initially this first prototype is mainly to test / verify the cone material performs like I want it to. This frame is only a few millimeters deeper than the stamped unit... total depth is going to be about ~66mm which is 2.59" I am also thickening the back plate, doing some small motor modifications, and adding ventilation to the back plate as well to help relieve pressure / back-wave reflections and to keep coil temperatures down. I'll be putting the initial set in my car shortly... then I will be getting the revised midranges as quickly as possible. Once I verify everything we should be ready to roll soon after on production assuming it all checks out in my testing. Also... I expect MAP price from a dealer to come in under $200
  17. Sundown E-10/12/15 and SA-10 D4 Back In Stock Just finished unloading and sorting the container. So they are ready for order once again. Re-cone parts for the E series also arrived so I will work up pricing for kits soon. I have heard very minimal need for the parts but I'm sure they are a small handful out there somewhere.

    Sundown NS-1 Pre-Order #2

Amps will be into port Friday which puts them with us at some point next week. I will leave this pre-order open until Friday.
  19. Just got my first pictures of the first completed prototype of the new SAZ-1500D v.3 model... so the cat is out of the bag on this one! As the model that got us started it is only appropriate that it is the first model to be shown in the 2012 trim! Newly tooled 2012 casing -- you can still tell it IS a Sundown amp but it is a refresher and also narrower. The FETs are mounted at a 45 degree angle to shrink the width AND avoid spring clips (which I've never liked). So we are getting the best of both worlds on that. * Fully custom tooled boards for all of our new 2012 models complete with fans. More photos to come as I get the other models done! Yes... you do see 16 power supply FETs in this amp along with four transformers. * We will use the fancier RCA plugs for production. So this has many things I've been asked for (smaller size and fan) and MANY improvements to design that were really just personal goals of mine. The entire line is stable to 19v as well. Power testing to come when it arrives... the SAX-125.4 model should be showing up within a week or so as well. Pictures of the completed prototype coming soon too!

    First SA-8 v.2 Drop-In Kit

I have two to build so far -- IIRC this one was a drill slip into the surround. In any event -- just finished the first one and it looks neat so I took a few photos : * This is where it really varies from our other kits. The spider spacer along with dual triple joint rings. You cannot see the 2nd triple joint ring but it is in between the spider layers. It did take a good bit of time to assemble; which is why these kits are "expensive" compared to our other SA kits.
  21. Here it is! Super small little amp Without mounting feet included the new amps are sized as follows : SAZ-1500D: 8.30” x 2.32” x 16.53” SAX-125.4: 8.30” x 2.32” x 11.02” Factory tested power as follows @ 1 % : 138x4 at 4 203x4 at 2 438x2 at 4 I'll be pretty busy for at least a few days but I will get my testing as soon as possible. On to the photos with the 1500D v.3 and the 100.4D revision : * Hard to tell but there are small holes in the board on the right for the fan on the opposite side of the board to breathe. * 1500D v.3 and the 125.4 together * WOW * 99% of the crossovers... only lacking the 12/24dB slop switch. Fixed at 24 dB now.

    SAX-125.4 Prototype In (2012 Model)

On the next production run; which I do not have an ETA for yet.
  23. sundownz

    SAX-125.4 Prototype In (2012 Model)

There was some "concern" about the "high" rating of 1% THD in the factory spec that I posted originally... in any event as one can see on the full THD graph at the full rated 125 watts per channel we are at the sub 0.1% THD level. The power difference from 0.1 to 1.0 is in fact very insignificant. The 1% figure is the CEA-2006 standard measurement for reference.
  24. More 2012 amplifier prototypes will be rolling in before too much longer as well... the SAZ-2500D v.2 will be the next one coming in for testing. Hopefully withing a week or so! We do have one final run of "2011" model 2500/3500D amps due into port around the 18th... I know quite a few folks are waiting on them as this production run has taken an unusually long time to be completed. I do not expect them to last long so if your "older" amp needs a mate this would be the time to get one
