2 Mj 18 in a Bass Reflex box for DJing
mrogowski replied to innsanes's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Well, there you have it, someone speaking from experience. You might want to consider snagging a pair of Eminence drivers that are more efficient and designed for such things. Best, Mark -
Hang in there guys. A proto is on the way, and while nice, it will require a bit of work. Best, Mark

2 Mj 18 in a Bass Reflex box for DJing

This is a tough call. Most PA subs are much more efficient (98+db) and are designed to deliver frequencies in the 32-45Hz range, which is the 'sub' range for PA. If your friend is doing hip hop this means serious boom in the upper low bass range. If it were me I would build a box where the sub is a bit exaggerated in this region to make sure he gets the boom he needs without relying on room boundaries. He can always tone things down if need be. Since it is PA, the boxes will take more pounding than a standard box, so you want to make sure to reinforce the magnet structure. I think they could work - for smaller venues.. Best, Mark -
Sorry, I don't have any pictures other than what is on the site. More will be up as soon as they get in. Best, Mark

It was actually more of a potential option rather than a change. We'll see how things go - perhaps a 2 Ohm verison will be made available. Sorry for the confusion.. m

Hi Everyone, Its taken quite awhile to get this finished, but we are finally there. The IXL-18.4 is now ready for production and I am offering folks a decent introductory price for those of you who want it now. Here are the specs of the driver and a few shots: Fs = 15.4Hz Re = 3.2Ohm Qms = 4.87 Qes = 0.39 Qts = 0.36 Vas = 556L Sd = 1029.2cm BL = 15.1 Mms = 228g Cms = 0.37mm SPL = 89.2 Xmax = 22mm Pre-Order Information This is NOT your typical 'pre-order' process in that 100% paid-in-full funds are being requested. Instead, I am requesting a $20USD non refundable "commitment" deposit (per driver) from those of you who wish to get in on the ground level. In return, you will save $25 off the selling price PER UNIT. The introductory cost of the IXL-18.4 is $155.00USD each, plus a flat rate shipping charge of $20.00 per unit within North America. So, landed at your door for $175.00 each. For pre-order deposits I am requesting folks either mail me their funds or use PayPal - sorry, no credit card transactions. My PayPal account is [email protected]. Those who have committed to the pre-order will be placed on an email list and will be informed of the production progress at regular intervals. *** Please Note *** This pre-order could take upwards of three (3) months before you receive your product. This is simply due to production times, shipping, etc. Please be aware of this before you commit to this purchase. Best regards, Mark

Why not? You might impress him so much he will want you to go even bigger.

Ground pounder build. ? on box placement.

An option would be to go with two 10" ports rather than three 8" ones. 10's will move the velocity of the ports down in frequency a bit. Plus it will be symmetrical provided you go with one cavity. Having 4 MJ's will take up about a cube. I calculated two 10" ports at ~0.9 cubes. So you will be working with ~18.1 cubes total. Line the back and two sides of the box with R20 fibreglass any you will add ~10% to the volume of the box. You should be good to go. POST PICS!!! -
They are on the way...

The perceived area needed for IB is 10 times that of VAS, but this number is not cast in stone. If you cannot achieve at least 4 times VAS what you will end up with is a very large sealed (or leaky) box. Best, Mark
-
HI Flip, what size ports do you have?
-
It certainly wouldn't give you the volumes that ported boxes do, that's for sure...

I would aim 35-36Hz if you are going with 20 cubes. It will give you that extra authority in the 40Hz range that everyone seems to love... -
maw 15 in a smaller than 3.0 ported box
mrogowski replied to bld 25's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I doubt it would get louder in a sealed box over what you currently have. Killa, you might want to tune a bit lower if you find it sounding boomy, or like Denim says, add some fibreglass. -
Agreed. 4 15's would be a better choice.
-
Hang in there. I'm sure Denim will have things fixed up so you can snag them from him. Best, Mark

If you go with 5 cubes, then don't worry about the space taken up by the tube or driver. SSA includes shipping in the price so that's the difference. Best, Mark

Hi there, and welcome. Sounds like an interesting plan. The 4.5 cube recommendation is good for music lovers - hits low enough and doesn't sound muddy doing it. Add a couple of batts of insulation (R20) to absorb a bit of backwave and you will be rocking. The power you plan to apply to them is fine. Cancellation? Doubt it. Best, Mark

Check out what's available in the used section. I have noticed that folks sell quality stuff here, so you will get good value for your $150. Best, Mark

If you're doing med school you will have next to 0 time for time in front of a home theatre. IMO do the car first - you still need to get to 'point b'...
-
An option might be to look at used equipment. You might be able to squeeze everything in then.
-
Really good performance.

I have a prototype coming. Looks interesting but will need a bit of work.

Frankly, I'm not even sure it would fit for HT either. I recall a few threads over at DIYAudio discussing it and the overall impression was not a good one...
