Here is the output of the IXL in a 260 litre bass reflex enclosure tuned to 17Hz. The green line is the driver, the yellow is the port. Measurements are nearfield - mic was placed one inch from driver and port. The port measurement has a 24db/oct xover applied at 100Hz for clarity.

Published Le numbers seem to be a bit out-of-bounds for the design. I will be verifiying this tomorrow using a rather expensive LCR device to get a better reading. I'll post the results here. The X readings are the same as the prototype. Best, Mark

I have a revised unit sitting here now. What would you like to know?

It did change the Q somewhat (as you would expect) but VAS was quite high going in and still is, so either way, you are looking at a large enclosure to make this thing happy. It was a juggle between sensitivity, mass, compliance, and having a motor structure that will take (future) longer coil heights... Cycle, to answer that, I will be posting some real-world figures on different box configs hopefully this weekend. That should give you enough info to make an informed decision which way to go. Best, Mark

Indeed...

Been kinda swamped lately. I'll post some info next week sometime.

Glad to hear things work out well...

Who makes them? I like the look of those cones...

Yup..

Not exactly....

Just a couple of quick shots of the IXL-18.4:

Huge. I'll throw up some numbers later next week once I verify the parameters from the lot. Best, Mark

I'm expecting them in this week. Regarding the xover and the HiVi, hang in there, it will get done. Best, Mark

Working on it. Summer is here and it is difficult to hitch up with Gio for finalizing the tower project he has going on. I will be finalizing my small array next month. Hell, just buy them, their a steal.. Best, Mark

That was fast shipping...

Yeah, I agree, they *should* have been here today. It appears things delayed a bit and I am looking into late next week now. Sorry for the confusion. What I DO know is that they are in Canada *right now*. Best, Mark

I have received samples in the past and personally feel they are over the edge. Heck, 18" units are too big for many. What's your take on something like this? Best, Mark

Soft parts are proving difficult to get these days unfortunately...

Dumping that much weight in that short of time is not healthy at all. Are you stressed - girl problems, work problems, etc? Are you on medication? Some meds (well lots actually) have these types of side effects. I'm certainly no doctor, but I've seen my fair share of issues with myself, friends and family to make some general observations... Also, google is your friend.

Your light headedness could be attributed to low blood pressure. Head to one of the pharmacies and test your pressure using one of those machines. Do this more than once - do it over a week or two to form a basline. You could also have high cholesteral. Aside from eating healthy, exercising and being "regular" there is no other non-doctoral method of maintaining this. There is also no way of measuring it either aside from a blood test. If it is too high you may end up requiring meds. All this is *if* you have high cholesteral that is... m

Interesting...

Have you decided on a box size? We will need that to determine what size/length of port you will need.

Well, you have a fair bit of room to play with there. From the sounds of it, anything will/can go. If you are ripping out the seat, have you considered going with a larger driver? A pair of 18's in an IB config would be a very good choice if you want good clean bottom end... Best, Mark

Glad to hear things worked out for you. Sounds like the stuffing made a diiference... Best, Mark
