hey guys, the 15" mag will be coming before i know it and i haven't got anything to power it with. i dont mind running it at 1 or 4 ohm, i'm just looking for the best means of driving it for STRICTLY daily driving. money IS a concern but doesn't have to be a very big issue. i was originally looking at either the hifonics BX1500d or BX1000d, but have now realized that for a hundred bucks more, there is better. also, The JBL 1200.1 crossed my mind but was ruled out. I am running the stock alt and am going to do the BIG 3 fairly soon. now im looking into Phoenix Gold. The tantrum T1200.1 looks nice... but its so hard to decide. i want to get a 2 channel amp for my components soon too, so i do not want to go huge because i know the magnum has a wide range of tolerance as far as power goes. i dont want to upgrade my alternator. my pops is a service tech and would probably never let me run anything else than stock but he was into audio back in his day so he knows what the bug is like. 1000 watts just seems right to me (in a larger sealed enclosure 3+ cubes) any sugguestions, comments, ideas, all are greatly appreciated. what does everyone think about this tantrum amp? thanks guys B)

what size thickness? we sell it at work in flex (smaller) and 1/4" (bigger) the stuff isn't cheap. you have to buy the sheet that they cut it out of and they will only do sraight, right-angled cuts (most of the time) we throw alot of it away sometimes (nothing more than 6 inches in diam, but still, thats alot of $) i get it for free and would never even use it. good luck.

this thread is making me want my mag. whats the cutout diam anyway? (15)

hey man look forward to your insight and sharing ideas.

The Tantrum is not overrated at all.............every birthsheet I've seen has been 1450-1550 watts at 4ohm. Quality amp. ya thats how im starting to feel from what i heard, so this is probably what im thinking im going to do. thanks for your input my man... appreciated.

that would be real cool man.... i agree the PG would be better ill probably go that route... thanks denim

hey thanks nick. howd you get that cool little banner on the bottom? you should be seeing my order soon. i dont think that the tantrum is 1 ohm stable so that means id be running it at 4 and i dont know if this is a good or bad thing because its supposed to be 1200 watts at 4 ohms but many say its overrated. ive heard bad things about the bass boost on the brutus amps (i probably wouldnt be using it anyway.) so its up in the air... anyone else?

and i am ohhhhhhh so happy that you did man this is gonna be good.

sounds like a good plan. i was coming up with some volumes today that looked decent so ill have to plug them in. im looking at anywhere between 3-4 cubes as i have about 36 length x 18 depth x 17 height so the length looks like it with be shortened depending on displacement etc... thanks for all of the help guys. i hope this forum stays this way. keep any new ideas coming!

gooday ladies and gents wonderinging if anyone can help me with an inquiry i have. i plan on buying a single 15" mag when they arrive (preorder) and am also planning on building the box on my lonesome. to start off i drive a 94 maxima gxe with a fairly spacious trunk. due to the fact that it will soley be used for daily driving and for personal use (don't plan on showing it off to anyone) i guess you could consider me a SQ guy but the magnum is the best of both worlds hence it will get loud for me but have phenominal reproduction capabilities....im not a rap guy but i like a good bit of tribe called quest once in awhile and a whole bunch of other stuff prog rock (liquid tension (faaaaaast bass drumming)) and also a good bit of metal and were talking fast here now im sure the sub can keep up and thats not the question....on to the goods.. my maxima has a taper in its trunk that is approximately 36X17X18 inches of space that i'd like to use for an enclosure. my wood working skils aren't terrible, and im sure pops would be willing to lend me a hand (you think that id be better being that i sell all of the equipment at work (hardware store)) so anyways... im trying to keep this short. SEALED would be easier for me to do im sure and i know that i could pull it off. also, i can get anything hardware within reason AT COST and i want to use 3/4" MDF. BUT....which would be better for that fast paced bass drum reproduction, ported or sealed? because out of all the reading that i have been doing, a lot of people are saying ported 28hz etc... im open to ideas and i know that i could expand my dimensions with the ported enclosure. im up to doing some prototypes or something to get it right but im more concerned about the physics of the woofer in general. (the restriction of a sealed box may not offer as fast of reproduction, as you can tell i really dont know it could be the other way around. so in short gentlemen, the big question is, the faster the bass, which enclosure is better suited? maybe someone can help me plan something out as WINISD is jibberish to me (not entirely)i appreciate your bearing with me and ive learned alot from many of you on other forums etc... im doing this for the first time, and im doing it right.... BTW HIFONICS bx1500d planned on being the amp, other sugguestions welcome... you have no idea how much i appreciate your help in this matter.
