First off is how i feel right now. I haven't been this happy in quite awhile (been bassless for nearly...well....its been awhile. i blew up my temp sub on loan from a friend) so...i am working with this. 1994 maxima as in the sig with a memphis 16-MC1000d. my car right now has NO sound dampening products installed as of right now because i wanted to do a before and after test. ive got 30 sq ft of damplifier and a bucket of spectrum waiting to be installed along with 40 sq ft of overkill and some rattlepad. i had a 15 from the first run of drivers installed in my car before i received my new mag. i loved my first driver, but unfortunately had some issues with my setup and had to tear it down for awhile. it used to astound me in a 3.2 cu ft box tuned to 32 hz and many said it would be even better in a larger box...i never had time to find out until today when i installed the new 15 thanks to nick's extra speediness. i haven't got a tremendous amount of experience with different woofers that could compete with the new mag (w7, XXX, etc...) but i have heard them in similar installs. FIRST IMPRESSION: say enough? the thing is massive. the build quality is absolutely incredible with attn paid to the finest detail, right down to the chrome job on the back of the motor. it feels much different when holding it compared to the old gen of 15's. i dont know what it was, but it was there. the driver was to go into a sealed enclosure. i cannot fit a ported mag 15 in my trunk so it must be sealed. going from 3.2 cu ft ported 2nd gen to 3.15 cu ft sealed 3rd gen had its advantages and disadvantages. everyone knows how well the old 15's played and how much accuracy and precision in music they reproduced so how could it even get any better? nick made it happen. TEST/Break In I received a personalized letter from nick saying that it was necessary to break the woofer in for a half hour or so before really sending anything to it. so naturally i took his advice. 300 watts freeair with various bass mechanik cds running on it for a half hour. OH MY GOD?! this driver ACTUALLY MOVES with 300 watts? are my eyes deceiving me? no, the thing is so efficient its crazy. DROPPING it Innnnnnn.... I was afraid and excited....alpine cda-9815 with my memphis amp and flat settings with no bass boost. LPF set LOOOOWWWWW to start. Sealed 3.15 after displacement. this thing is LOWWWWW. It hits low tones harder and louder than any other woofer i have ever heard...and my best frind with the 15w3 wholeheartedly agreed. Songs like Lil Jon's no problems get laughed at by the woofer. Late night tip does not dip in volume...the older mags would quiet down at that low of frequency and this thing just HIT i mean it tore my trunk to shreds. Anything by 3 6 mafia...fudge that chit...rainbow colors...all low tunes...tremendous response. Phil Collins live in berlin played wonderfully... Black Dahlia Murder, Dillinger Escape Plan, Rival Schools, Sigor Rose' i tried everything i could think of and the woofer loved everything. it did not skip out on anything. COMPARISON blows charlies 15w3 ported out of the water with lowness (a word?) and volume. this baby is SEALED and is louder than my previous ported setup with my 2nd gen mag 15. i was amazed. period. i dont know what else to say. nick and his crew are great guys and obviously audiophile geniuses. the man answered his business line on a sunday for me today so that i could ask him about screws. great company, tremendous design, tremendous quality control, UNBELIEVABLE product, and one SATISFIED CUSTOMER A+ to everyone involved in getting SI back on their feet. Good luck with you mag setups and as always, offer the members on here your advice based on your experience, as i have here. thanks OLLIE its 1230 am

Anyone come up with a new box for their new mag?
ollie replied to ollie's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Yeah, Ollie called me today (Sunday BTW ) to ask me what size screws I used. We honestly just grab what ever we have laying around at the shop. Speaking of which, you should have heard the driver by now Ollie. How about giving the forum and little review?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> my bad nick, i was in a bind and needed a quick answer. i went with the 8's like you said and i've been driving around for the past 4 hours in the dissan. now for a review in a new thread... -
I am working on sealed for my 15 as we speak. Anyone come up with one that's 3.5 cubes at 27 that will fit in a trunk? My box will measure 16 x 14.5 x 31.5 and end up being the 3 cubes after bracing and displacement Just looking for other good ideas for a box that would work for me and maybe help others who haven't decided on what their doing yet. and.... HOLY chit am i excited i get a tomorrow...

SOLID anyone else? -
if you want a little more juice with tremendous efficiency, look into memphis. i think the new ones are nice but i have no experience... i do however own last years 16-MC100D. it makes 1100 watts at 1 ohm, 600 at 2, and 300 at 4 ohms. it dims only when i really crank it and my alternator puts out maybe 110 amps (this i think is right). make sure you've got the big three done (i'm one to talk, i haven't even got it done). ^ good luck with your purchase. memphis is rock solid. my 2 cents.

ported or sealed, the woofer sounds great. i just made a new sealed box that's approximately 3.2 ft^3 (sealed). i'd say that's pretty big. apparently the bigger you go, the lower the mag goes. but i am waiting on the new driver as well. nick has my old 15. i'd like to make another box that's 4 cubes at 28 hz. just for chits and giggles.... there was a thread in the general car audio section about a box program that's really easy to use that some guy developed. i played with it a little bit and it seemed to check out. the calculator for it can be found here http://www.accelerator-pedal.com/l-ported-box.htm try that out for a few minutes. for those of you that didnt see that thread, maybe try it out and see if you like it.

got one 15 comin' my way
-
i am in awe. i love that dustcap...love it....
-
do yourself a favor and go with the sealed if you havent got the room for at least 4 cubes ported. i was at 3.2 perr donn's design and it was not enough, IMO, but it wanged like hell. you could definitely tell it wanted more. im starting to wonder about donns box for the XXX -4.5 cubes at 29 hz...

hey guys. been a long time since i've been around. ive got a 15" mag in my max (from the first batch) and i love the way it sounds but im starting to wonder if something is wrong. the mag sits in a 3.2 ft^3 box that donn designed and gave free plans to. its being powered by a memphis mc-1000d and is seeing 1100 watts (or so im thinking, i want to get the amp bench tested). it doesnt seem like im getting the volume that i should be getting in that a ive been rivaled by several JL 15's (W3 and W0). i havent been metered yet. so there are several thing that id like to do and hopefully improve what ive got. my trunk rattles like hell because it isnt deadened but this is in the plans. is this going to have any effect on my volume? im starting to wonder if the enclosure isnt right for my situation because i know that i shouldnt be in the same running with the JL woofers previously mentioned. so i may make a new enclosure. has anyone ever heard of a memphis amp not putting out full power? i may be able to go louder when it is deadened because it rattles so much. so im just looking for any ideas at all. i dont have that chest pounding feel like everyone else describes yet then again, i havent been metered so i dont really know where i am at this point. thanks alot guys
-
thats what i was thinking. its 3.2 at 32 hz. thanks alot. sorry the thread was kinda worded uselessly guys. i was typing it on a laptop somewhere. i think im gonna go sealed....

how much power are you feeding your magnum?
ollie replied to tryatt's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
1100 baby. memphis mc1000d -
my thoughts exactly. im in the exact same sit. as you and am going to go with the memphis. the only problem is, there is no warranty on ebay. i can get the mc1000d for 550+tax at a local shop with 3 year warranty or for not even 400 bucks shipped to my house on ebay. the hifonics amps just dont appeal to me for some reason. im sure that they are built like tanks but the memphis just seems to be the better way to go.
-
like the install, clean. not my choice amps, but clean. how does the mag like that jbl?
-
you have no idea how much i appreciate it donn. you are a genius at this stuff. for my first box its turning out EXTREMELY well. thanks again bud.
-
hey bud. this will be kind of hard to explain, but i made the box that you designed for a magnum15 and im having a bit of trouble. the front piece (im assuming is meant to be 31.75 by 16...fine thats dandy). BUT it seems to me that in the drawing where the front piece meets the port, the two should be flush. well they would be if the front piece was 30.75, not 31.75 (if my math is correct) maybe im wrong so instead of having a 2.5 inch opening ive got a 1.5. maybe you can advise me on this one. i wont cut it an inch shorter until you tell me to. i dont know if its supposed to petrude into the opening or what. so any help ? thanks guy(s)

those cutout daimeters arent that much diff than 6 1/2 comps are they? those 302s look badass and i like the raw crossover
-
Fukk it all I am going 15s and not looking back.
ollie replied to eviljin's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
man sometimes you just need to go w/ your instict. i havent even seen mine and i know i made the right choice havent had any second thoughts whatsoever -
Now everyone knows that LR posted his free box of the week on CA and it looks good to me but then again i dont know much about it, he does. is 3.2ft^3 big enough ? hes got it tuned to 32 and that seems so much easier when you have all of the cutout sizes laid out for you in that diagram. im thinking i might want the tuning more at say 29 but im not sure. i was going to go sealed for the easiness of the construction versus ported but im lookingat my options as of now. anyone care to comment?

nice to see you on here. this man is an expert guys.

well i did it 5 minutes ago... $350 sent to SI for my 15" and i couldnt be happier (even though i've never seen or heard any D2). im getting prepared to be blown away. man i gotta sit down... anyone else crack yet?
