which one did he send? This is a big bastard of a woofer.... build quality is top notch... shame I can't get a good pic of the coil... yet.. this should be a hard woofer to kill.... Loyd L.

as stated previously... the SPL proto 12 is on the way here... and after I do the offical business related testing for mark.. its time to have some fun... post what videos / testing you want to see.. power... isn't a problem we'll have 4 sundowns, and 2 memphis 4kws on tap... vehicles... gotta suv, hatchback, trunk car, and crx on tap.. boxes... aren't a problem.. we've got 20 sheets of wood, and saws.. Loyd L.

with an amplifier(s) no... I just went ahead and cut it open.. Loyd L. And no pictures? plenty of pics and videos, just waiting to see if its ok to post everything. Loyd L.

I haven't a clue what the pricing on the dd's are.. lol Loyd L.

I covered that in a previous post.. "..still sounded decent enough on music" I spent enough time with the driver to see how it did subjectively, and I'm happy with how it sounds considering its design, and purpose. people certainly drive around smiling listening to alot worse... Loyd L.

here's one.. 20hz, 2.5kw, then 3kw towards the end (you'll know when we turn it up) this was during the "try to kill it" portion of testing Loyd L.

it was tested in the same enclosures, in the same vehicles, on the same termlab as used during the 12 inch test session.. Loyd L.

sorry about my wordings... I've learned to speak in buildhouse about speakers.. I sometimes forget to call things common terms.. We tested out the proto today... it performed amazing!, in comparision to woofers we testing during the 12 test session, it was louder than any other woofer posted in the SPL burp listings, with 2kw.. the only woofers louder were the BTL, with 6kw, and the FA MF with 8kw.. it withstood 1 full minute of 3kw from a memphis 4kd at 20hz, freeair.. no failure.. with a couple small adjustments, which I've already sent to Mark.. it should be ready for production. overall, its a very loud, very abuse tolerant design, and still sounded pretty decent with music.. did everything I wanted it too, and more.. the build was absolutely flawlass, as I took it apart after testing to examine the coil, and other stuff.. I'll have some photos and videos up later on tomorrow.. I think everyone in attendence was impressed Loyd L.

we've got 4 Sundowns, and 2 Memphis 4kw's waiting on it.. and a bunch of boxes, cars, and people ready to get at it.. should prove to be a fun Saturday.. P.S. Mark.. stay around the phone Saturday Loyd L.

12" motor dimensions are: 20x200mm Washer 3 - 20x220 mm slugs 21x200mm T-yoke with a 15 degree pitch / 103mm core in other words... Big ass mota! Loyd L.

I estimate it'll cost something... Loyd L.

well... I'll do the standard frequency response testing sealed, and ported, in a couple designs... to get a feel for the peakyiness of the driver... and see where inductance kills top end.. then we start doing power testing.. free air sine waves for extended periods.... the current bar to beat freeair is 2kw for 6 minutes (dd 9510) in box, 8kw for 1 minute (FA MF 12") and we'll do the special testing that you all want to see.... then we finish up with failure testing.. Loyd L. -
because rubber doesn't have enough compliance for ultra high power SPL use... and its heavy, expensive, and yields no benefit in this instance.. Loyd L.
-
My first thought as well. Resonance has been running leads through the suspension for years... its not a completely new idea for SPL use... if done right Loyd L.

never heard of it? Loyd L.

I really need to do another big SI install.. Loyd L. -
pair of Mach 5 12's in 4.5 cuft, tuned to 33hz... in my car, 05 aveo hatchback. TL sensor was placed on the headrest, vehicle sealed up.. http://img237.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mach5installcb3.jpg we then tried the 2 loudest frequencies and turned the amp up until they stopped getting louder @ 35hz, the Mach 5's did a 138.2 with 1843 watts @ 40hz, the Mach 5's did a 137.3 with 1050 watts video of them @ 40hz http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y50/vladd...nt=S5000240.flv very loud woofers for the price... one thing I do need to mention... the coils on these drivers dcr pretty low... 2.3 ohm per coil... I'd call it a nominal dual 2 ohm driver myself.. at the very least a nominal dual 3 ohm driver.. actual impedence during testing was quite low... barely over 1 ohm actual load. For 2 dual 4 ohm nominal drivers in parallel, I'd expect to see an actual impedence out of the impedence spike area of low to mid 2 ohms.. so pick your amplifiers accordingly.. we'll be doing alot more testing end of sept, for the official test session.. Loyd L.

I always continue frequency response testing until I sense the approach of thermal, or mechanical distress.. the 800 watt frequency sweep was all the power I'd want to put on them for that.. and its pretty typical for drivers to withstand 2-4 times their RMS spec, for a short burp... so 900w a driver is pretty good from em for a burp.. I wasn't expecting quite that much though... Loyd L.
-
a 600 watt RMS amp playing music should be fine on 1 of them... I haven't completed enough testing on the box sizes... but judging from its output in 2.25 cuft.. I think it would be fine.. may even help the sq out some... Loyd L.
-
you and me both... they didn't like it though.... I wouldn't suggest doing it more than a couple times... Loyd L.
