Post break-in: New sub box, same sub.

Got all the pieces cut out, and will be starting assembly tomorrow. Tonight I hope to get the false floor out and get rid of all the glass. If I have time tonight, I also wanna fix the back-up camera. After working first shift, transporting, lifting, and cutting the wood, I'm exhausted. I definitely over-estimated how much wood I needed. Got two sheets, finished the whole all of it with one and a tiny bit of scrap... Guess I'll save it for the next rebuild. Stock floor, false floor pieces, new box pieces.

I feel your pain. Especially when the majority of them consist of 4+ woofers and a wall of batteries/amps. lol I'm all like... I'm just a college student...
  3. I guess it's different for a car, but I'm going sealed from a ported box to allow me to utilize more of my trunk space. After a vacation with four people and all the luggage, it sucked have a ported box for just one fifteen. I've had a sealed before, and it probably won't be optimal, but the trunk space means more to me. All in personal preference. You will yield a bigger output, though.

Got her back! After a week, I get back the Edge minutes before they close... Tomorrow, I begin building!

When an alarm does no good. ATTN Central Ohio

    Thanks, Ramon.
  6. *ATTN: Those that live in Central Ohio.* Friday night my car was opened and trashed, but nothing was taken. Saturday night, my car was broken into via the rear and passenger windows that were pried until cracked and pushed in. All that was taken was my iPod and GPS, although, they did rip the sub box off of the floor it was screwed into. The suspects are 6'0"+, white males, wearing baseball caps, built, and driving a light-colored, late-model minivan. They have vandalized and broken into more than thirty locked and unlocked vehicles sitting outside homes in neighborhoods around the Pickerington area. I have heard that they have also struck in Dublin and map was found outside my house that designated multiple communities along I-270 with highlighter. They pry the window with what seems like a crowbar or hammer on one side until it cracks enough that they can push through it, so as to avoid alert anyone with loud banging/shattering. It seems as though this is a team of thieves that work in pairs since multiple neighborhoods have been hit in the local area during the same time periods. I feel obligated to get this info out as the cops have not charged anyone, nor has the local media picked up the story. Unfortunately, the car insurance company says I'll have to pay out my deductible so nothing will be covered... yay. I have scratches, dings, broken windows, missing property, and glass in my cloth seats... Pictures of the damage. I've taken second thought at the Ace Security Laminates. Take care, all, and be safe.

When an alarm does no good. ATTN Central Ohio

*Update* Appraiser paid me a visit, eloquently pointed out some specks I hadn't noticed, said I'd be covering my full deductible, but insurance wasn't off the hook. The driver's and passenger's interior door panel are being replaced. Multiple spots are being painted for scratches. My tint is being redone. All I have to do is get the glass shards out of my car, fix my false floor, and troubleshoot my back-up camera... I would as well, but when coming face to face with me, my family, and my property, it is a jury of one, and I alone will decide what happens to you. In my case, I'd probably turn you over, though. You may have a right to be judged by twelve, but I have a right to my property, and when you take my rights away, you are the one that gets stripped of yours.

Good to know, gracias. Although, I do remember a situation in Ohio when a man shot and killed a thief who had robbed his neighbors house while he was running away and used a Texas stand your ground law to justify it. It held in court, I believe.

My dad's truck got broke into in his own driveway in the backyard with the gate shut with TWO motion sensor lights in the backyard. So, no, i do not buy into the light it up argument. You want physical pain? Some people on here know what i'm about to do to my vehicle. I don't care how illegal it is.. bill me.. I currently have 2 130db Directed alarms on the outside of the vehicle... Soon.. I will have an imported Siren from china rated at 160dB. cost's $280 so we'll see how well it does. It fires in 2 different directions at once. I seriously do not think you should compare building theft to vehicle theft. There's a visual difference when it's happening.. Business theft.. nothing looks out of the ordinary unless there are 30 people there. Directed makes a glass break sensor but how they pulled yours out.. i doubt it would work since it measures sound. You would need a Prox sensor. As soon as the glass were to be moved, it would set the alarm off. Literally made me laugh. Does it ever happen when it warns twice because multiple people just walk by your car in the parking lot? Does it get annoying? I thought about it, but decided it might irritate me too much, or have me paranoid when I didn't need to be. I will be using a custom external prox sensor that will not be tied to the actual alarm. This custom sensor will send a trigger to a timer sensor that will send power to a "light source" warning anyone around the car that they are being watched. And yes... it will physically display those words too. I do not need to know when someone is close to the car but when someone is, that should be enough deterrent. IF they want to hear what 2 130s and a 160 sounds like, go right ahead and play around with it. PS- the Ace Laminate is the strongest laminate in the industry according to their motto. Level 3-thickest grade for vehicles. 14mil thick Tensile Strength- 28,000 PSI Break Strength- 350 PSI Rated for 1\8" thick glass adhesion. Cost- $8\sqft I paid $145 to have it installed on 4 doors, 2 small quarter panels and rear curved window. Here is a video showing it's brutalness- Security is all about slowing down the suspect. That's Step 1 security. I am looking at all angles that a NORMAL suspect would use under limited time to steal or gain access inside. Window break, door picking, slim jimming, OBDII Theft, Battery kill and vehicle theft(not towing) all made near impossible within a few minute time period. some of these are physically impossible such as slim jimming, door picking and OBDII theft Others like towing- go ahead and tow it.. I can track it. I'm very crucial about security. My car was broken into 5yrs ago NEXT TO A POLICE STATION. My dad's truck recently broke into as stated above in full lighted area. I don't go by general recommendations. When someone tells me if they want in, they'll get in or if they want something, they'll get it.. Well, that's like a statement of faith and without anything else to say.. the statement is invalid. If they truly want in or get something, then what is all the ways they will do it? That's where i attack at every angle. Unless a thief has 20min+, it isn't happening. I'm still working on finishing my security packages but mine is well over $2gs right now. Sorry about yours and your dad's rides. Those alarms sound atrocious! lol I may consider the Ace Laminate product in the future, but I think the prox sensor tied to my alarm would be my best plan. My car sits outside at school, next to my dorm building on a hill (but the school had computers taken from them in an area where crime is literally non-existent, until now). I'm not too worried about it at school, but I can't watch it for glass break-ins all the time. It may be a good investment, the laminate, that is. Not ever worried about someone towing it. I've never heard of that on the news, nor do I think that goes too quickly, so I'd probably notice it. You kind of touch on the point I'm making. It is usually cheeper to insure it than secure it...... Exactly as my insurance is handling it. Because the windows are part of the car, auto is looking at those. Any additional property that isn't part of the car is being handled by home owners. Home owners told me that the $1000 deductible is to big for them to pay for what was stolen, duh, so there isn't anything worth claiming. The auto-adjuster will be out later today. I have an appointment Friday morning to get the passenger window retinted, too. Thanks, Kyle. In Ohio, I'm pretty sure the law states you're allowed to hold someone at gunpoint and call the police, but aren't allowed to shoot. I probably wouldn't shoot them, but in the air, their car, and near them, sure. I don't have any of my mods claimed on my insurance. As a college student, I'm still in the "high-risk" category, so insurance is high enough. The $1000 deductible and the lack of mods is the only thing that allows full-coverage to be around the same as liability was when I was 16. lol I'm going to see if I can lower my comprehensive deductible, if that's possible.

True. The laminate is $8/ sq.ft., or that's what I got from the thread I got it from in the Auto section. I calculated it to be about $190 + install. Not sure it's something I'm going to by into. I'm going to see if Viper has something like what Jon's describing.

Literally made me laugh. Does it ever happen when it warns twice because multiple people just walk by your car in the parking lot? Does it get annoying? I thought about it, but decided it might irritate me too much, or have me paranoid when I didn't need to be. you can set the sensitivity and also how wide it detects you really have to get it dialed in so that it does not go off too easily .... it makes you jumpy at first but after a while you kinda learn it, and alot of times if it warns once i wont look but if it warns twice i will... and it hardly ever goes off from 3 warns, ... i also have dual shock sensors so. but the thing i like the most.. i have my dialed in to warn when you walk CLOSE.. but if you cup your hards on my window to look inside it will go off right away ... i have used this system on my last 3 cars. for the last 9 years... and i have never been broken into.. The cupping of the hands is a good one... except that I find myself wanting to check out others' systems just by looking in. lol This with a Viper? I have a Viper, and have thought about adding some options.

Well, they don't exactly stop the robbery, just draw attention to it. Also, they broke the windows, so unless you have a glass-detecting microphone that triggers the alarm, it won't go off. Cameras would at least catch a face, to make them easier to identify for police to garner a conviction. Prevention isn't always fool-proof, so the next step is to draw attention and get evidence, which is hard if thieves are breaking glass, they'll usually have gloves, so I'd think cameras are next best option. All this being said, making the glass less breakable and strengthening the edges is the best step to preventing the theft altogether.

Why? I have a thousand dollar deductible. Although, I did find a clause about windshield repair, but we'll see if that counts for vandalism and the rear windshield. If you drive it daily, I would think that a rearview camera or two mounted on your dash would be fine as it's low-draw and small. I'd put one near your glove box and one above your stereo, so as to see over the seats, too. Night vision shouldn't matter too much since when the doors open, the lights come on. A second battery might be necessary, though. **Update on the case: They struck again in a nearby neighborhood last night, hitting one house with a camera forward facing on their house. Caught their faces and lifted fingerprints. Of course, this will only bust them if they have definite suspects or the thieves have priors. The news finally picked up on the story, too. Hopefully they'll turn up empty in their next break in and people are on the lookout.

Thanks, guys. I've mentioned Ace's laminates to a few of my modded friends and they seem to love the idea. I can't image that it'll help as much as it does with the bat, but it wouldn't be as easy to push in once cracked. In the end, parking in the garage is always the best bet. I know people on other forums with a interior cabin camera that is always recording when the car is off, which seems a bit far to me. Unfortunately, this was only the second time it's sat outside my house this summer and is the second time in 24 hours that it has been messed with. What are the odds?

    Kid friendly bass????

Most dubstep/trap doesn't even have lyrics. Macklemore usually has a good message behind his, but he does include explicit lyrics. Hoodie Allen doesn't swear other than the occasional "damn" or "hell" for the most part. Will Smith have good bass? LOL Jake Miller doesn't swear much, or at all. OCD is good.

New box ideas for my Edge.

That's the thing I want to keep, and I only have 6.5" on either side of the spare.
  18. So I've had the car a year, and after a spring break trip to Florida, I found out that it's cramped with three passengers and luggage for a week. My brother should be getting a car within two years and he wants the current set up, so I'm getting a head start on my planning LOL, ready to pull the trigger when I get the money to do so. I built my own floor for the extra battery and some storage space. The sub box currently fits across the whole trunk from the back to the break in those side pieces. I want to put together two separate boxes, each to house either an SA-8 or an SD-8, sub facing back. I still want to keep access to my spare, so the cover I made for it will be split into fourths and hinged to fold up into the side of each box. Haven't decided sealed or ported, which may help me pick the woofer. If I port it, it would be with a 3" aero with a bend, ported up. Both boxes are about .62 cu.ft. I can't go much smaller, either, for the folding center piece to work. Here's a sketchup: This is the sealed box idea. Lemme know what y'all think, and what combo of sub and box type I should go with. I'm also concerned about the box size being adequate enough for the box.

This will go right along the front of the trunk, so when you open the hatch, you have to lift things over this to put it in the trunk. This way I can utilized my folding seats.

New box ideas for my Edge.

If I were to build a ported box for 2 SA-10s, subs forward, port up, 35.5 x 14.5 x 12, do you think the box would tip over upon stopping if I mounted the subs to the bottom of the box?

New box ideas for my Edge.

I sat around thinking today, and decided that it'd be cheaper to just do one twelve sealed instead of having two different boxes on either side of the car. The Icon 12 doesn't have a pole vent, which (I think) allows me to put it (6.5" mounting depth) into a box with a 6.5" depth. The box is 1.19 cu.ft. Don't worry, I'll probably add some 45s and a ring to the outside to mount the sub on, but I don't intend on having a double baffle. The box is 29 x 21 x 6.5. The raised part allows the battery to sit in its current location and is 18" in height. Part of me has been debating on building new storage spaces and just putting the oem floor back down and securing the box with velcro.
