    Power rating @ 4 ohms

    Fail !

    Power rating @ 4 ohms

Your specs at ssa say 350 @ 4 ohms. The manual says 400 @ 4 ohms. Which is correct? Not that you will hear the difference.

    AccuWave Pressure Meter teasers

Googled them and can't find them.
  4. Haha. I wasn't going to sound deaden my amp. It was just a quick question instead of making a whole new post. I was just making a point that the amp shouldn't depend on sound deadening.
  5. Sound deadening is very important but why does it affect the amp recommendation? The sound deadening should be done when the speakers are installed if your budget allows for it.
  6. Thanks for suggesting ohm's law calculators
  7. How big does the wire really need to be? For 2k of power to a sub. How many amps are you really putting thru the wire?
  8. You wouldn't hear the difference. A spl meter would show about .2 db gain. You can't hear that.
  9. I just wanted to know if going bigger would make a big difference. I found out not to the human ear.
  10. Do you compete? No Sir Then you don't need to run 8 awg wire. You wouldn't hear the difference.
  11. So I used this speaker wire calculator and I would only gain .16 db going from 12 to 8. If I were competing it would help but for daily no. I thought it would bring up a larger pic. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB4QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bcae1.com%2Fimages%2Fswfs%2Fspeakerwireselectorassistant.swf&ei=Bnk-VIHpEcrM8QHQ5ICgDA&usg=AFQjCNHWbnIxYLEsc6crPvD6kja5tnM8hg&sig2=WTwmhCJhYbT46dxqjxVH7w&bvm=bv.77412846,d.b2U http://www.bcae1.com/images/swfs/speakerwireselectorassistant.swf

    In and playing finally

    Nice build !
  14. Well I think that's enough for today on this topic.
  15. Gains are there for that purpose. You could connect a 1,000,000 watt amp up to a 100 watt speaker and as long as you set the gains correctly it wouldn't blow it. Your HU, even if it CAN output a full 4V through the pre-outs, wouldn't output that much voltage unless the volume was turned all the way up. It doesn't output 4V all the time. That's why it's suggested to set gains with the volume at about 3/4 of the way up. That way you can always turn it down for music that has a higher than normal recording level and turn it up a little more for the music that has a below average recording level. The one thing you've not mentioned that I would love to hear about is what you think of the DCON's. That's what I figured, it's just that I'm going to a level of power that I've always wanted but could never afford. I don't want to do anything to screw this up. I've done every last bit of the work myself so far with the help of people like you guys.... and I can't thank you enough. Shops charge big money for installs, money that I'd much rather put into equipment than someone else's pocket. As for the DCONs....they're 12s and I have loved every minute with them. So glad I researched long and hard before my purchase. I was about to do the old local shop Alpine subs until I read about everyone praising the DCON's SQ and how efficient they were. The one thing I hate is that I screwed up and ordered D4s instead of S4s. But in the end maybe that happened for a reason, as my alt was only 80 amps and I was forced to run at 4 ohms with the amp I had. Probably saved my electrical in the long run. The one thing I noticed once I put them in was how loud and low they got. I've always ran sealed subs in the past and was blown away by the output these had at 4 ohms vs the subs I was running sealed at 2 ohms. I can honestly say that this has been the most musical sub I've had to date, and I'll always recommend the DCONs to anyone needing a low powered sub with great SQ. What size are the dcons and are you going to sell them? 12s but I think I'm going to give them to my son for his Mazda 6. He's been hinting about it ever since he found out what I'm doing. Couldn't really afford a lot for his graduation last year so hopefully those and my old Kenwood 5 channel amp will help make up for it. Just asking in case you want to sell them.
  16. It depends on the voltage the amp is putting out. Ohm's law. So then you mean to say you asked the wrong question(s)? Ex: If an 2,000 watt amplifier was being used to power an Subwoofer that is X distance away from it, what is the best wire size to use? I think I asked the right question but never specified how far the sub would be from the amp.
  17. I believe that is for 115 volts not 14.2. amps are amps Then if the amps stay the same the watts will change.
  18. It depends on the voltage the amp is putting out. Ohm's law.
  19. I think that is way over kill and a waste of money. That's my opinion. If you think it's way over kill, or an waste of money, then why ask the question? That's a waste of forum space, that's my opinion. You asked for an 2krm subwoofer. Take a look at an SSA Zcon, the terminals are to fit 8awg wiring. So are you saying they made an wasteful decision? What about Obisidian, their OA line allows 4awg, same can be said for B2 with their XC line. It is an safety hazard to have too small of wire. As questin said, use an calculater. You have been on this forum for too many years to be spoon feed for ANY questions you have, especially when there is calculators readily available. My hds210 sq subs can take 10 gauge. does that mean I need to use 10 awg. lol. Ok, we can play that game. Crescendo Audio BC5500. Dual 1/0 inputs. So tell me what happens when you only use half the inputs, or attempt to use 4awg vs 1/0. I am talking the amp to the sub. Not sub inputs.
  20. I believe that is for 115 volts not 14.2.

  22. Your not doing it wrong just spending more then you need to. That's my opinion not fact.
