Gotta suport the locals.. BigJon!! He's hosting his own soundoff so being a part of SecondSkin will help promote?. -

So i have a 2002 Chevy Tahoe. My enclosure is around 3.9 cubes net at 30hz, i know its mall (mostly port... I had an Fi Q 15" dual 1 on a Soundstream Dtr 1.3400 (3400 rms @ .5 ohm/ 2200 @ 1) and metered 146.7@45hz. I got a second Q and did 148.1 wired at .25 ohm @45hz. I later dropped a BTL 18" dual 2 in the same box and now i meter 145.8 @48hz on 2200 rms. But the 18" sounds extrmely louder than the 2 Q's.. But i would expect it from a lower peak freq.? The Tahoe flexes alot more but wouldnt that make of a lower peak? Any input on this is apreciated. Thanks

Same thing happened to my Orion Hcca. Found out the VC former had rub on it. You can try playing the sub free air and press gently on diferent parts of the surround/spider to see if the rub goes away.
-
You would get better overall results out of your vehicle/system if you could fix this ... More Flex = Pressure Lost ... Yeah i will try to get some sound deadning. I can actually hear the metal of the roof flexing even while im bumping. Looks cool but anoying
-
The soundstream Dtr actually puts out some good power. Not saying it does "rated power" but my friend's Sundown saz3000 metered 147.0 on 2 Fi BL 12's @45hz and thats more cone area than my single Q' 15" that did 146.7 in the same Tahoe. Is my amp doing good for what it is?
-
So it just has to do with the sub/box? Yes, different woofers will peak differently in the same enclosure. Thanks for telling me. But why does it sound alot louder but meter less? Even when i played the btl @ 45hz it would outplay the Q's. My ears hurt on most songs i play now, something that only happened when i burped the Q's. and i can feel alot more pressure from the BTL.?
-
I never played it too long full tilt. Gains were turned down, just turned them up a little for burping to see what it can do. But it would get pretty hot.
-
So it just has to do with the sub/box?
-
The only time that has happened to me was when i had coils wired wrong. But the heat thing is weird. Try taking off the mounting gasket to see if any part of the suround came unglued. Play it free air and check spiders. Hope this helps..

I was running the same sub just a month ago on 3400rms for burps and quick demos. It was very loud! But then i got an 18" ufo style BTL and ooooweee! The 18" on 2200 rms sounds alot louder. But on the meter it was weaker by 2.2 db's or so. But to the ear it sounds alot louder.
-
Sick looking box man! Will you meter this in the hatch? I am gonna work with around the same size box for ufo style btl on around same power. Lets see how it goes.
-
Same case as me but im working with a 18" BTL. Tuned in to see what responses you get.
-
Its fascinating how much detail goes into designing each sub... So hard to judge by which one looks louder or just basic opinions.
-
No problem guys.!

I got my brand new DC lvl 3 15" today. To start off i have to say the build quality is very good! It has 5 stiff spiders. Everything looks similar to what would be on an Fi sub/Ascendant/Sundown.. As for entry level. On to the sound... The low end is killer, top isn't as nice.. Dosnt play anything too audiable from 65hz and up. Enclosure is 7.2^ft gross, 3.7 cubic ft net tuned at 30hz, peaking at 45hz. Power handling on 2200rms isn't at its best but it can definatly take it for short burps/demos. I would recomend around 800rms to get this thing moving good. Overall it is a good sub and can get loud. Dosn't have the SQ of my old Fi Q but maybe its the enclosure... Output-7 (sounds loud but dosnt create too much pressure) Sound Quality-6 (plays high frequencies nasty but kills on lows) Build Quality-10 (Rusty builds great subs what can i say) Weight vs output-8 (is only 27 pounds but seems like it has the force of a bigger motor) Price-what you get- 10 (for around $250 you have a nice woofer) Its my first review sorry if this it's too long or dosnt have good info...

Differances between FI x10 and Dcon 10
orlando144 replied to Tony Nelson's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I think its more about the enclosure than the sub. I put a cheap "t.n.t" sub in a good low tuned enclosure and it sounded really good! As for sub choice both dcon and x will treat you well. 2 great quality companies. -
2 12" dd 1500's vs 1 12" xcon in khaotic enclosure
orlando144 replied to logan_searching's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Ive head the dd's before. Wasnt all that impressed. Id keep the Xcon and later on add another one. You have a top of the line sub going from that to bottom of line subs is a downfrade dont you think? Less spiders, smaller vc, etc.. Just an opinion/thought -
Supp' SSA!! I am looking to build a higher tuned box for my 2 15" Fi Audio Q's. ( I know they are not made for spl) just for fun... I do 148.1db @ 45hz (30hz tunning) but looking to see what higher tunning will do. For some reason i always peak at 43-45 hz with diferent boxes/tunning and a friend also peaks at 45hz with diferent boxes on 2 12's. Is it the Tahoe's peak or something?. Both are 01/02 Chevy Tahoe's. If i tune a box to 43-45hz will it help because of what i peak at ? Thanks for the input.

Make custom door enclosures or your door speakers? Fiberglass, wood, skills and your good to go?
-
Are you going to the meet that Big Jon is going to do in San Marcos, Tx ? I wanna hear these lows.
-
Nice score man! At 31hz it must sound killer!! Any plans on adding more subs/power?
-
M5 is right. I.E. A 140 @ 30hz can sound louder to the ear than a 145 @ 47hz. Like in a SQ car... Tweeter, midbass, coaxil position makes all the diference. Sounwaves reflect from diferent places in the car which makes it sound/feel louder in one place than another.
