Finally came over from the dark side......
stratusrt01 replied to stratusrt01's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Here's what I was thinking on the box, small chambered transmission line, doing it in birch with some Stain and Poly, I think I'm going to do a grey stain and a lot of poly on this one, since it'll match my car well. -
Have my son for the day while the wife is out, so I figured I'd post some pics:

bored, so here's some pics of the build in progress

have to keep the sunglasses in the console at all times.........lol -
A local guy here is running a SAE1000d to a pair of DD 3512's, my 1st thought was that it's not nearly enough power for those subs, but after hearing it, I've changed my opinion of the 1000d. I knew it did rated power, but it really surprised me.

nice work, especially on the carpeting.

you're up 9 to 6 right now. I've been to that website once or twice, it's forums are horrible with misinformation everywhere. -
congrats man.

sounds like the last time, someone had the magical AC knob turned up.
-
quick update: same setup, just a little tweaking, the Stratus did a 137.7 just a few minutes ago.
-
The setup: single DD 3518, slot ported, tuned to 32hz single Sundown SAZ-1500 Kinetik HC800 battery Did a 144.8 legal, sealed on the dash Did a 146.8 in the kick, outlaw Not too bad for 1500 watts, single sub setup, with no real power upgrades.
-
If they won't cover it, go to www.db-r.com he's great at repairing amps, and does it correctly.
-
The Stratus hit a whopping 136.9 with the 2 SD-1's on the rear channels of the 100.4............

bi amping is using 2 amplifiers on each set of components, one would be for the tweeters, one for the mids. The passive crossovers on some component sets will allow that to happen.
-
Which amp is good for me?
stratusrt01 replied to Koridan's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I would go with the Sundown, but I'm biased. I just like the fact that if you have a problem, you don't talk to some "customer service" agent, that doesn't know anything about audio. You talk to Jacob. -
fighting noise
stratusrt01 replied to stratusrt01's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
well, after fighting with it for a couple hours, I got it figured out. It was the typical Pioneer low level out problem, so I fixed it correctly. Took the headunit apart and soldered a ground from the RCA shields to the main ground on the case, and it cleared it right up. -
Well, I have to ask for help this time. I have a high pitched whine coming through my speakers, even without the car running, so it's not engine noise, but this one is strange. While troubleshooting, I grounded both the radio chassis, RCA shields (Pioneer FTL), regular ground, redone every ground in the car, ran new RCA's, etc etc. So I gave up last night, and decided to sleep on it. This morning, went back out to combat the problem, just turned the key to ACC, fired it up, and it was gone. Went to start the car, and it came back. So I did a little more troubleshooting, and went back in and figured out that with the key in ACC, there is no noise, but as soon as I turn the key to run, even without the engine running, the high pitched whine is there. anyone ever run into a problem like this before or know how to combat it easily? Seems like I have something in the car causing a loop whenever the car is actually in RUN.
-
The problem on this one is that the roof is loud inside the car. I told the guy to come over, and we'll deaden up the roof real well, so he doesn't have to hear it.

Sundown SAZ-1500 on a single DD 3518.........

Going to start on my semi-SQ build today. Can't really call it a true SQ build as of now because of a few things that I'm sure will be pointed out by the SQ guys on here. Headunit: Pioneer deh-7800mp EQ: Rockford Fosgate Symmetry Amp: Sundown SAX-100.4 Mids and Highs: 2 sets of CDT EF-61CF's CDT Imaging mid-tweeters in the A pillars Subs: Sundown SD-1 12's Enclosure: Chambered Transmission line tuned to provide a nearly flat curve from 20-65hz. Gonna get started on the build this evening, and on Tuesday my Termlab should be here, and I'll get some base numbers, even though, as you can tell, this isn't going to be a ground shaker. My RTA should be here soon, and then we'll get it tuned in as good as possible, and I'll post the curves.
-
I agree totally, but it's very hard to balance out sound vs. show factor. That's why I originally said I couldn't call it a true SQ build because of inherent flaws in the layout, but when you're trying to achieve a balance between show and sound, something has to give. I'm sure the imagining won't be flawless, far from it actually, but it should sound better than 90% of the crap that I have to hear on a daily basis.
-
the future plans include going with a pair of CDT M6's in the kicks for midbass. (had them before), I know the imaging isn't going to be perfect, which is why I said it wasn't a true SQ build, but with the time alignment, I should be able to straighten it out enough to sound good enough, since this is my daily driver. I've actually been debating on not hooking up the tweeters for the 2nd set that are in the sails, since they are too far away from the rest of the speakers anyways. Once I get them playing, I'll make that final decision.

nice going, way to represent.

I guess the sales reps aren't eligible, huh?.............lol
