What do you guys decide your amp purchases on?
stratusrt01 replied to audio-neon's topic in Sundown Audio
I think Stratus hit it dead on the nose. But I would put customer service and reliability as #1. You can have 10,000 watts but what good is it if it dies after a few burps and you can't get a hold of anyone to try and resolve the problem. I was more referring to that an amp meets my power needs, if I don't need 10k watts, there's no use in having 10k watts. But yeah, customer service and reliability are the 1st once you decide what power you need. -

1. Output- Amp has to match what you're trying to do 2. Customer Service- Can you talk to the people you need to when the time comes 3. Reliability- I can't have a lot of downtime, couple this with #2, and when things go wrong, you have replacements quickly. 4. Flexibility- If I change up, can this amp change with me, is it strappable, impedance capable, etc etc. The more options, the better for the future. -
Yep, I use him for those hard to reach areas that I forget to seal......... His arms fit in almost any port to get those back corners....lol

It sounds much better when you let the midbass do from about 60-300hz, and then cross your components over higher. Cleaner sound, because the components aren't trying to reproduce any bass at all, and it's left to speakers that can do it more accurately.

I have the 100.2 running the DD w 6.5LT's in my car, can't wait for it to be buttoned back up. 60-300hz
-
It works great as a sub amp bridged at 4 ohms in low power systems. I'm putting a 100.4 and 100.2 in my wife's car for her next week.
-
awesome, thanks Jacob. I'm sure you'll see a nice sized order from here shortly.
-
When will dealers and reps be able to place their orders? I forsee a ton of sales on these personally, great price, good power, reputable name, it's a winning combo.
-
The box is more related to a horn than a true TL, but uses technology from both, since each by themselves have downfalls. What I came up with is a nice design that gets very loud, while maintaining some SQ, and still hits lows nicely.
-
yes it is, I've run mine in many different configurations like that, and it shines through all of them
-
I'm trying to get my ducks in a row to get 4 3000's when they come out
-
what do you mean? I'm easy on the amps, it's the subs that I try to rip out of the box..........lol
-
I know of one guy that has blown a couple, but I believe he's running them at .175 on 17.7v or something crazy like that.
-
There's nothing really special about my trunk, I just have a habit of getting things fairly loud out of it compared to most trunks, especially with the seats folded up, so I'll take the single 12", slap it in a folded horn and a standard ported box, and let it rip on the 4 SAZ-1500's. So after that, there will be nothing misleading at all about the test. (I don't see anything misleading at all about this one personally) I have great mids and highs, so I can fairly evaluate it for daily duty under a lot of different circumstances. Jacob knows I won't hold back on it either, I'll give it hell, and let him know what happens. My car also peaks around 44hz, so it would be a very comparable test for any car.
-
Well, the daily testing will be on 4 SAZ-1500's at .5 in a folded horn tuned to around 34hz......Of course it'll be metered also with that low of tuning.
-
I can build a 12" horn fairly easily
-
yeah, I talked to Scott about them, and he told me that he wasn't going to sell many of them, because of the problems with running them. My peak is at 44hz, which was a bit too low for them. I guess I should have said he wasn't mass producing them.
-
decided to take a quick video. No tuning done yet, just fired it up and shot a quick video before I got yelled at.............lol Just a pair of 10's:
-
I'm not worried, I have the horn built and it's waiting. We'll see what it does at around 44hz in a trunk whenever it gets right.....
-
the simple answer is yes, if you wire them both to 2 ohms, and hook them up to the amp, it will see a 1 ohm load.
-
Yep, I've got a folded horn ready for it, it'll get an extensive workout to evaluate it for daily driving, when you guys get done with it and it comes to me. 4 SAZ-1500's on it daily in a folded horn will give any sub more than it deserves. I drive 45 minutes each way to work and back, so there will be plenty of time to get it hot, let it cool down, and go at it again.
-
yep, I can't use any of mine either, so I've got 6 of them laying around........
-
hehehe, this is going to be fun..........
-
Made you look, didn't I? New video of the carnage my car has become since I joined up with Team Sundown:
-
Seriously, that rear view is on there good! I still can't believe mine actually pulled out a chunk of glass... the epoxy is still holding to that chunk of glass still stuck on the rearview as well. Your windshield seal flap is nuts. May need to resort to extreme measures to keep that sealed PS: You know I had to at least test it It was too massive to just let it sit around. Oh Yeah, I know. How much does it weigh again? Like 90lbs? I may have to come pick it up next week sometime, or just grab it at the show in Roanoke Rapids.
