new box, need some help figuring out where i should cut hole for sub
jrb00992 posted a topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
okay so i just finished cutting and sanding all the pieces of MDF for the new box i'm building.. i used the re audio box calculator and it is gonna be tuned to 32hz. the only problem is that i am not entirely sure if the location of the sub will affect sound quality. just wanna play it safe and get some feedback. the specs are 30'' wide x 17.5'' deep x 14'' high. if the exact calculations are needed ill put em up. thanks -

headunit noise, and alternator whine. can someone assist?
jrb00992 posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
alright so about a couple weeks ago i installed an alpine cda 105 unit for my expedition and i realized i have a bit of alternator whine. i grounded all of my wires quite well and even double checked the harness. everything is straight but at one point the whine stopped then came back, im not sure what to do. also, i can hear noise from my headunit menu selection sometimes, for example if i switch the inputs or select certain options it makes a click noise through the sub, is this a ground problem all together, or maybe faulty rcas? simple advice would be sweet.. thanks, john. -

yeah the eq isnt that great but just the hu alone has made a huge difference. -

so i was not going to buy a head unit in the first place but now that im thinking i can probably use the features for the eq... i have been looking at the clarion vz300 and that appeals to me, but also the jensen vm9224 i dont know much about jensen and im not sure if they are a reliable brand, so some help here would be nice.. in fact i wouldnt mind suggestions for other headunits as long as they are under 250 -

well i took it to the local audio shop today and it just so happens the rcas were put in backwards on the amp and a couple of the wires on the hu got yanked out. (i couldnt tell the difference of the plugs on the amp because they are both black). but the subs bumpin good now, i bought the alpine cda-105 hu today and i love it, i just need to mess around a bit with it and get used to it. -

my bass isnt as loud as i would like it to be on my sub and i really dont like turning the bass knob on the factory HU up all the way, i simply want suggestions for a good HU that is versatile and willl help me adjust the loudness and tune my sub a bit better. -

i want to make my music sound crisp and clean. Then an eq will just screw you up seriously bad. If you don't know what you need to do an EQ is NEVER the solution. In general the should be for removing anomalies, so if you know what ails your system lets start by trying to fix it without relying on processing. i believe i need a high pass filter, im sure that does come with every headunit right? -

i have a 2005 expedition and i just put a 12" fi Q in it wired to an audioque aq1200d amp. i went to go turn it on and the sub didnt play, my cousin said it was the rcas but im not sure... if it is how can i fix this problem?
-
its the factory HU

well there was one wire we couldnt find i think it was like a lime green with a pink line in it.. but we re routed it through one of the fuses. is there a possibility that on the wiring diagram they could have left out the 12v wire or mislabeled it?
-
it possibly could be the RCAs but check to make sure you have it wired right. Guessing you have a D2 wiring to 1ohm? is it wired like this: (+) to (+) on sub then goes to (+) on amp (-) to (-) on sub and then goes to negitive on amp yes that is how i have it wired and yes its d2 to one ohm, my cousin walked my through the whole thing cause he has the 12 inch fi q too. i would check the RCAs next and hopefully that will provide the solution we checked the rcas like we took them out and flipped them and nothing happened, could there be a bad wire in the HU?

thank you =]

sorry, i was vague.. the radio plays just like normal... just without the sub, the light is turning on and no it isn't the protect light. i haven't probed yet i decided to give it a rest for the night. its 30 outside, im going to check it tomorrow and my cousin is going to check the voltage. he said it was the rcas but once we diagnose the problem i still dont know how to fix it.

Need some box plans for a 12" fi q.. Can anyone help?

thanks -
So i just purchased a 12" fi q and while i wait for it to come in i would like to build the box for it. I want to build a ported box that will give it a real good sound when it pumps but i don't want it to but too large. If anyone has plans of their own or can suggest a site where i can get them for free (or fairly cheap) that would be great.
