    Two Q18s in the trunk

Sealed or drop down to 15's. (2) 15's will sound much better in that box than (2) 18's.

Man they are loud!!! It is just crazy. The 35 Hz peak is the lowest subs have ever peaked in my truck. Not bad for 15's in 3 ft^3 each tuned to 34-35 Hz.

    Getting ready. . .

Didn't get the subs in until LATE last night, so today was a mess. Still did a 156.8 @ 41 Hz in the kick with the passenger side window open. Later in the day I did a 153.9 legal, sealed on the dash. Funny thing was in that run I burped it full power at 41, 40, 39, 38, 37, 36 and 35 Hz all in a row. Peaked 153.9 @ 35 Hz on the 7th burp. Had also been playing it on and off quite a bit during the day without the car running, so I am sure the voltage was not pretty. When I find the actual peak, know where to set the volume, and can burp it (everything today was rolling the volume) with good battery voltage, I have a feeling it is going to be pretty darn loud! Subs got a nice break in today and sound awesome.

My oldest son Blake called and said mine are sitting on the front porch. Scott went way above and beyond to make sure I had these subs for a local competition tomorrow. You will never get customer service from any "name brand" company like I did on these subs PERIOD. Thanks again Scott!!! Brian

will it really sound that bad?????

My Aunt and Uncle live in Corpus. We go usually once a year toward the end of summer. . .I will have to let you know next time I am going to be down there.

    IXL-18 and a sonotube. . .

I always get introule for not keeping good build logs, so here it is. Will try to keep it updated. 12 ft^3 tuned to 18 Hz. 9" diameter port.

    Impeadence rise?

That is not stated correctly. . . DCR is DC resistance. When you measure a voice coil reistance with a DMM, you get DC resistance. This is the resistance everyone measures and then always asks "why are my 2 ohm coils only 1.4?". Impedance is what you get when AC voltage is applied and it varies with frequency. Since a voice coil is wound like an inductor, the impedance with AC applied will not be the same as the DC resistance. There are multiple ways to measure the driver's impedance at a given frequency. If you have a clamp on current meter, you can measure the voltage and current playing a test tone to get the impedance at a given frequency. Impedance rise occurs when the driver is placed in the enclosure. The impedance at a given frequency will more than likely change if measured free-air vs. in the enclosure, since the coil will react differently with back pressure applied to the cone. Once again, the only way to know how much this change will be for your system is to measure it. You can do a search to find hundreds of articles on impedance vs. resistance. http://www.teamrocs.com/technical/pages/re...e_impedance.htm Brian

I do a lot of side work away from my normal job just to pay for my own installs. ATV repair, home theater and car audio installs, home repair. . .whatever.

will it really sound that bad?????

Hard to say. It can make a difference in a competition, it could make a difference to you sitting in the driver's seat. Only way to know is to test. I built my suburban the standard driver's side port for loudest on the passenger side, but mine ended up being loudest on the driver's side. . .

    Getting ready. . .

Mayhems are new to the AA line. Scott said I could finally state on the forum that is what I am getting (Man has that one been killing me ) Mayhems will be availble shortly from AA dealers. I sold the BTL's. Hope to be back in the 157.x range with these, and a slightly better street beat score since they should not heat up as fast as the MT's did. If both of those things hold true, I will have a system that can play music at 155+ for more than 30 seconds at a time without an amp failing or a sub overheating. . . But I am still trying to figure out how I can get another 15 and another 40.1 in the suburban without totally rebuilding everything. Brian

I just talked to Scott. . .sounds like my Mayhems will be shipping today!!!! Can't wait to see what the 40.1's do @ 0.5 ohms!

    Spl Weekend

Yes i have tried different positioning and subs forward / Ports up along the back window line yield the highist SPL ! if i lay the box on its back and fire the subs up & port to the rear i lose 2.3db Everyone always assumes subs up, port rear is best in an SUV. Before my wall, my truck was loudest sub rearward, port out the side. . . Brian

    Need Box Design Help

If you did a pair of the precision port 4" flared ports, they would need to each be 14.5" long. If the sub and ports will face rearward, then the box needs to be at least 19.25" deep for rear port clearance. You could do 16.5" high x 30" wide x 20" deep with a 1.5" thick front baffle (external dimensions).
  23. BKOLFO4

will it really sound that bad?????

I would do the end facing the side. I am pretty sure the flare end is more than 6" in diameter, and the top of your box is only 6" deep. . . Brian

    XMech of Avalanche 18"?

They can actually bottom the coil too. I am 100% for sure. . . .
