I just use: http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31 As far as end correction - It seems to work with ports up to 3-4" wide, but beyond that the extra wall does not have as much effect. I never take more than 2" off for end correction on a slot port. Brian

I come up with the port being too long. 36" is closer to 29 Hz. edit - you subtract the 1.75", not add it, that is the difference. The effect length increases with a slot port, which means you can subtract it from the actual length. tuned that low is going to gain bottom end, but lose some output where most song's have the strongest bass. Can you post up full dimensions of the box for us to see?

I remember that test - awesome for trying to explain to people that as long as you do not go beyond the thermal or mechanical limits of the driver, clipping does not blow them. That link does not work for me. . .

I don't think they can.

Scott told me there is wax in the lead wire that is melting. . . Brian

Not likely a problem. The coil is gapped to the top plate, not the actual magnet. There is plenty of clearance between the coil and the magnet. The magnetic force in the gap is not going to be affected by that much of a shift. . . Brian

I texted your dealer and told them you would be sending a PM. . .

Man, someday my son will be on a forum asking this same type of question Is you dad going to upgrade his electrical system to? Does he have a budget?
-
It really is not if it is in static position, it is if you have DC current or AC current. DC current, the resistance is the coil's DCR, AC current is the impedance with the 'Z' portion as you described.Apply DC (like a 9 volt battery) to a coil and the cone will jump, but the coil resistance is still the DCR. But the measured impedance at a given frequency will be different for a driver in and out of the box. Every time I have ever measured it, it is always higher with the woofer in the box. . . Do you not agree?? Brian

I started a build log for the van. . . Will post pics as we get going! Brian

I could not tell from the pictures. . .It looked like it was just the standard 5 layer birch. . . BTW - Box looks awesome! Brian
-
That looks like standard Birch Plywood. Works great (I have used it on multiple boxes), but to really be as good as MDF, I think you need the 11 or 13 layer void free Birch plywood.

So if it comes down to money, sounds like you have to make your own decision. . . If you are asking which one is better. . . .let's just say the BTL will take 3500 each without any problem. . . As far as actual output, if you go from 2500 watts to 5000 watts, you will gain 3 dB if you are really lucky. 2500 to 3500 will be a noticable difference to the ear. Worth the extra effort, once again you have to decide.

Broken Tinsel lead and burned hole in spider !? help
BKOLFO4 replied to airbear's topic in General Fi
You are way over driving that sub if you have killed the tinsels twice and burned a hole in the spider. . .Even if it was still in warranty, your misuse more that likely would not have been covered. Brian -

Wiring Relays in Parallel Please READ
BKOLFO4 replied to shizzzon's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
With the top pic, you might as well just have one relay, since the same current will pass through both. With the second option, the relays are in parallel and the current will be divided between them. -
Use thick paper (like manilla folders) for shims. Cut to fit inside the coil. Keep test fitting until it is tight. I even use sheets of paper after the manilla folder pieces are tight to make sure it is a good snug fit. Just don't get it so tight you cannot pull it back out after the recone is glued in.

Man I have looked at these pics 7 times today. . .That is just nuts. Wish I was close enough to see it and hear it in person. Brian

Let's try it. . .I would love for my Mayhems to look like Havocs. Does the Havoc have the inner 3" cap over the coil?

Can you point me to a few of those reviews? The company I work for is a VERY large OEM distributor of Panasonic products, so I can get the AE2000U for quite a bit less than the 1080UB. The main reason I was leaning toward the 1080UB was for the brighter output. Evan's review said the AE2000U loses picture quality over 100" (or too far from the screen) in cinema mode. . . Thanks! Brian Sorry to jack the thread

Man it is awesome! Where is the video???

Wow man. What subs are those? I don;t even feel like building my van anymore

Building a Home Theater Computer
BKOLFO4 replied to shizzzon's topic in Computers / Electronics / Music / Games
www.avsforum.com is another good source. I built one for my projector, but the newer processors in the projectors actually do such a good job decoding that I am not even sure if I will use it in my new HT. Brian -
Scott is building a nice set of tweeters under the Ascendant brand name. . .
