Ideal Box for 2 AA Havoc 12's in 05 Ford Taurus
BKOLFO4 replied to Jman91CT's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
Maybe you should post up the dimensions of the largest box/volume you are willing to give up in your trunk and we can suggest box designs from there. If you have the space to build a properly designed potted box, I would go ported. I have done the ported vs. sealed many times. Ported always wins for me. Even in comparisons doing one sub ported vs. two of the same sub sealed. Brian -
Have you actually measured that much power? I have used those drivers in multiple installs - i don't see them handling 425 watts each for long. . .
-
I ran mine from 57-2550 in the van. 6 sets. 115 watts RMS per driver. Actually kept up with (6) mayhem 15's pretty good.
-
As Nick said (not that he needs someone to agree with him), 6-6.5 per sub will work great. If you have the extra room, use it for port area. 100-120 sqin per sub works great. I tune all my mayhem setups to 33-35 and they are awesome. Brian

I am building a new house and decided to give IB a try. . . Just ordered (8) Fi IB3 18" subs for it. Plan is to run 4 subs from ceiling to floor on each side of the projector screen. Pictures will come. The front wall of the theater room is 2x6 studs. Will start building it up with MDF next week Brian

You can come check it out any time. Just let me know. You still have my number?

Cool. When I go to a thread with 80 replies I don't always read carefully. Thought maybe you didn't know it was infinite baffle.

It is an IB setup. . .

I watched Inception on Blu-ray tonight. Had to turn the subs WAY down. First time I have seen them move like that and I don't think it would be good on my house to let them run like that very long. Output was CRAZY, but very clean.

I sent this guy info. . .

The avalanche sounded just like a tumult, but was slightly louder on a meter with less than 800 watts. Beyond 800 watts, the tumult and XXX kill the avalanche with more power. I have owned all three drivers (actually at the same time). All really nice and sound almost the same.

More progress. . .Almost done. Speaker stands and sound deadening left.
-
Not much excursion there. Only running 300 watts each to them. Most I have seen them move is maybe 3/8" inch.
-
I have t/s parameters now. . . :-)

The kids think that is their room! At one time during the build, it was "your not going to put the xBox in the HT room, are you?". Now that they know how to turn everything on by themselves, it is "are you going to let us keep the xBox in here? I think we should." Hmmmmm. . .

Video games are AWESOME. Screen is 110".

Fired up the subs for the first time. It is crazy. Low, low, very clean, effortless bass. No where near full output from the amp, subs moving less than 1/2" peak to peak, and there is WAY more than enough output!

Still only have temp electricity. City of Denton screwed up my permanent electric order after I passed electrical inspection. Should have gas and electric by Wednesday and be complete by Friday. Scott is sending me an 18" basket so I can predrill fastener holes without damaging one of my drivers.

Got a pioneer elite vsx-32 today!
-
Finally have electricity!!! Should be moving in soon. Finishing the hardwood floors in this room over the weekend.
-
The Fi Q 18 would be awesome.

I think he is talking about posts i have made before - In both of my streetbeat setups, same box, same amps, the mayhems peaked at a lower frequency vs. BTLs. BTLs were slightly louder, but peaked a few Hz higher.
