  1. Is that 1200 watts for the pair (600 each)? What amp do you have that does 1200 watts at 4 ohms and only 1400 at 2 ohms? I have done the 1 driver ported vs. 2 drivers sealed comparision with several systems. . . The last one I did was (16) 10's sealed vs. (8) of the same 10's ported. 3200 watts on the 16 drivers, 1600 watts on the 8 drivers (200 watts to each speaker in both setups). I would take the (8) 10's ported any day for daily music and loudness. (16) 10's was not quite as loud, but had better REALLY deep bass (I had dolby digital in the vehicle, and the 16 sealed drivers did better with some movies). That was also because I did not run the SSF with the sealed setup. As far as sealed being so much "cleaner", a correctly designed ported box will sound awesome. Most amps come close to doubling their power going from 4 to 2 ohms, and also become less efficient. If an amp does not make as much power it will not be as hard on the car's electrical system. If your amp in fact makes 1200 watts @ 4 ohms and 1400 @ 2 ohms, you will not see much difference. Brian

    1 15 BTL problem

I would start with that HPF on 28-30 and increase as need to control the excursion. . . Brian

preordered sundown3500d. now need subs! finally

Until you know how big the box can be, it is going to be nothing more than a guess on which one will be better. If you do not have enough airspace for four 12's, then three 12's is going to sound better. . . Brian

    1 15 BTL problem

Is that gain set at max and the HPF set as low as it will go? What are the parameters of the box (new volume and tuning freq? Post up full dimensions of the box.

    BTL BOX DESIGN

There are a lot of variable that will determine how loud the setup is, but look at this: BTL 1w/1m SPL = 93.1 dB BL 1w/1m SPL = 90.6 dB That is a pretty good difference. Not to mention going from 1300-1400 watts per BTL to 2500 watts per BTL is less than 3 dB difference. Brian

    questions about BTL's

I run 4000+ to mine no problem. Get the cooling and long coil for sure if it will be a daily setup. With that much power, you can run them well beyond the linear excursion of the standard coil. . . Brian

    L Ported Enclosure for a 12" BL

You can. Double baffle just means make the wall the sub mounts on so it is 1.5" thick (2 pieces of 3/4" glued together). You can also build the box full size and corner fill to help air flow. Brian

    breaking in subs

Exactly - so if you don't play them hard enough to move the suspension really good, you are not breaking them in.

    BTL BOX DESIGN

Because it has been covered a million times. . .Even with 100 watts, the BTL will still be the loudest sub Fi makes (of course there are more variables. . .maybe I should say "still has the potential to be the loudest sub Fi makes). 1000+ watts per sub is more than enough.

    L Ported Enclosure for a 12" BL

It can reduce the mechanical power handling. If you have the subsonic filter set to protect from over excursion, it will be ok. I would double up the baffle. That will reduce the internal volume, and be good for the enclosure. Brian

    looking for some stuff

Send me a PM with a list of what you need and your zipcode - I will get you prices. I have been helping Scott with pricing on recone kits since he has been busy. You can find the rubberized CA glue for pretty cheap. http://shopmodeltrains.com/model-train-rai...glue/p_258.html Scott told me to use Loctite 20 minute two part epoxy, and it has worked great on a couple of recones I have done. L Ported Enclosure for a 12" BL

I am assuming you have a port WIDTH of 3", so the port is 3" x 14"? Leaving just under 3 ft^3 net volume tuned to 33 Hz? If I read that right, it can be smaller if you want it to be. . .

    1 15 BTL problem

If it actually smoked, you better check that amp before you reconnect things. Only time I have ever seen a sub of this type smoke, the amp had failed and was running high DC voltage into the coil. Did you notice if the cone was sucked in or pushed out while it was smoking?

what opitions would be good for 2 Fi BTL 18''?

3500D is just a good amp. The difference between 3500 watts and 4000 is not a big deal unless you plan on doing a lot of SPL comps. Batteries, HO alt, lots of 1/0 wire. . . Brian

    Will this enclosure work?

I have run boxes at 38 Hz. There are songs that the low end will be missing. Make sure you have a subsonic filter set correctly. How much port area do you have? I would cut down on port area if possible to lower the tuning to 33-34 Hz.

what opitions would be good for 2 Fi BTL 18''?

3-4k per sub is more than enough. I run 4k per sub daily. Works awesome, but without the subsonic filter set correctly, I could destroy them mechanically. Understand that to run 6-8k true RMS power, you will spend some $$$ on your electrical system.

    Reconing 2 18" BTL's

Are these the ones from SMD? You can get the colored dust caps. You can get the HiXmCoil if they have the third magnet (more excursion). It will come with the new style tinsel leads. If you want dual 2 ohm coils, you need to make sure the subs were already D2, or spec'd as universal (if you are sending the subs in for recone, Fi will know when they get them). I know last time I talk to Scott, they did not have anymore of the carbon fiber caps (the AA avalanche had carbon fiber caps). Not even sure if the carbon fiber will work with the BTL. No pole vent and high excursion makes for a lot of pressure behind that cap. I am helping Scott with recone orders, so shoot me a PM with your address and if you want to just buy recones, or if you plan on sending the subs to Fi. I will get you pricing. Brian

    Box for 10" Q

The mechanical power handling will be less, and the low end response changes. Without going into a lot of details, the low end rolls off slower as the box gets bigger. do a search on sealed subwoofer boxes. There is a lot out there to read about them. . . The difference between .72 ft^3 and .85 ft^3 is going to be hard to notice. As far as the opening, you can open it up with a jigsaw, or it may actually be ok. The woofers can go in a slightly smaller hole if you leave the rubber gasket on. I have always cut the holes for the 12 spoke baskets smaller when I use a router and I am going to leave the rubber gasket on. Brian

Fi BTL 18" or Addictive Audio?

18's are fun to get in a blow through. Just did a set in a 2007 silverado single cab blow through. Running the pair on a SS XXX10000D. Loud as heck. . . BTL's get my vote. Awesome subs!

    Box for 10" Q

The internal dimensions should make around .72 ft^3 (0.6 + .12 for driver displacement). That is 1244 in^3, so the internal length x width x height in inches when multiplied together should equal 1244. These goldwoods are actually very nice prefab boxes. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.c...tnumber=260-642 That one is 0.85, but that is close enough. Brian
