I am designing the box with the help of Altons box calculator (It actually does all the work). I think that will be my best option with the sub facing up, That way i can try the port in any direction with just rotating the box. Thanks guys i hope this works out!
-
Oh, why doesnt it work when the port and sub are facing opposite directions?
-
You dont understand? I DONT HAVE MONEY
-
Final descision. Sub facing rearward, port facing forward, and if sound doesnt move that well because of the lack of folding seats, ill cut a big slot in the rear deck.
-
I dont have the money to get a new sub, or get a recone, or anything really.. So im sticking with the 18" in a 5.5 cu ft box. Lets see how it goes.
-
Yes, i have room for that stuff when need be, the main reason i bought the 18" was because it was for sale locally... for lots cheaper than i cud get a 15
-
Sealed boxes arent so awesome for Fi BTL's
-
Ok... i think iv figured it out. Smaller box. 7 cuft isnt going to work much at all... Ill be going 5.5 cu ft instead!. 18.5" tall, 30" wide and 28" deep. That will give me atleast a little bit of play room in my trunk and should work great!
-
I think im going to need to fire this forward towards the cabin or its not going to work.
-
Yes i did, sorry for the confusion. Its in the trunk firing rearward. I might have to fire it forward... idk i need to figure some more shit out. Right now my box is going to be 18.5" high, 30.5" deep, and 34" wide... I only have 19" of height clearance.. and there really isnt much room.

2004 Alpine DVA 9861 HU
MikeMartel posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I have no way of knowing (atleast that i know of) to let me know when my HU starts sending out a distorted signal and i dont trust me ears that much. So i was just wondering if anybody has personal experience with this head unit and at what volume it starts to distort. The previous owner told me not to turn it up past 24/35, but i have also heard that some alpine HU's aswell as other high quality HU's will be able to go up to full volume without distortion. Im starting my new build and want to re-do all the gains on my amps so this would take some guess work out of it. Thanks. -
See thats what i was thinking dictator. Once it gets that peak volume it goes into protection momentarily because the gain is too high

Electrical Problems
MikeMartel replied to J_dizzle's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
First of all, a main rule is never to play your HU on anything over 3/4 max volume. You should only be playing it at about 24 max. That could be the problem, also check and make sure your gain isnt set too high. -
May even be seriously clipping if the gain is too high?
-
so theres no actual 'port' its just a slot cut out of it?
-
Well. how much port area do you have in the box?
-
Girlfriend that bought you a 21" woofer. Dunno what else you could ask for,
-
Looks like it fits to me
-
Yep... that kinda fucked up stuff happens way too often. Sorry to hear it sir.

The time and effort it took into making that custom fuse block.... Ugh that makes me sad, this fuse block trumps my entire build. Props.
-
Well... im at my girlfriends house tonight... and tomorrow is football.. So ill do my best to get those pictures in on Monday
