Anyone want to see some real power?
DC Power Rob replied to DC Power Rob's topic in DC Power Engineering
Wait until the video uploads... In this day and age, it didn't happen without video proof.. We dont normally shoot video for just testing and prototype work but Kyle did for some reason tonight... I'll let the video do the explaining... -
250XP on our new Test Bench... Output Curve Anyone?!
DC Power Rob replied to DC Power Kyle's topic in DC Power Engineering
Im sure we'll get some SP's done tomorrow and upload some pics.. At about 2250 SP's start catching up with XP's and that's why they are so much win on vehicles that have good ratios because we can almost get XP type numbers at idle.. If I remember correctly though, the SP's will do about 185 or so at 2400, and about 135 at 2000. I probably had about 50 hours of test time on the SP's before I was happy so the above numbers are probably dang close.. Believe it or not, we actually have a couple of alternators that will honestly do over 300 on top, and well over 200 at idle.. I'm sure we'll run some of those tomorrow as well, we just don't do much with them outside of some very special applications because there aren't many vehicles that can swing them at idle. -
250XP on our new Test Bench... Output Curve Anyone?!

If your Charger is a 5.7, they'll peak over 200 at idle, but they will do 170-180 at idle, with no trouble at all, continuous.. The XP's on late model '08+ Charger's/Challenger's etc are just ruthless at idle.. We have one local customer that we did a 270 in that although we couldn't clamp it to see what it actually did (no room behind the alt), it would run 4k watts, at idle, at 14.6-14.7v, and the customer damn near smoked 3 amps from running it full tilt at idle for about 45 minutes.. He had never been able to actually enjoy his system so when he finally did, he just railed on it and wouldn't let up. It was classic.. Kyle has a video somewhere of the voltmeter on it, but we never uploaded it anywhere because we couldn't clamp it.. -
250XP on our new Test Bench... Output Curve Anyone?!

We will tomorrow phi.. Just to show what we mean by brute force idle output, at 1800 alternator rpms, which is VERY common on imports) we carry almost a 100 amp advantage over our competitors alternators. And to show just how far we under-rate the XPs, EVERY other manufacturer in business would say that alternator does 200 at idle, and we rate the 250s at 160-170 at idle, conservatively.. -
We've only been waiting for it since January, and this is just our "loaner" machine until the one we ordered is done.. This one is 15hp, has a 350 amp load bank, and will do dyno sheets with everything we ship after we get it all set up.. The machine we are having built has a 20hp motor and a 580 amp load bank for some of the bigger alternators we build, but this one will do for now.. Not that there's anything wrong with a $50k "loaner"..

Sorry I missed this earlier.. Im pretty sure one of our new 180HP's will fit it, and would be more than enough for what your running. The cases should be done today, but it's going to be after SEMA before we will be able to get any of them out. Performance wise though, the 180 will do 120-130 at idle with no problems and should be plenty for you.. Rob

Normally with the bypass and harness they are $689, but right now I can do it for $599.. Let me know, Rob

Sounds great! Dave and Kyle are both out of the office for a bit, and i have to run some errands so if you call in the next little bit, hit me up on my cell.. 801-618-9586 Rob

It's leaving today, you should have had a tracking number from Fedex by now.. I built it on Saturday and did the paperwork yesterday.. It is leaving today for sure though.. Rob

Thats what I get for answering on my iphone.. lol Didnt see the subtitle.. '96 4Runner has the 3.4L so we can do pretty much whatever you want in it.. You can run a 270XP if you want something that mean, and with a stock diameter pulley it will still do an HONEST 160 at idle hot.. We can also build a GM large case that is a direct bolt in (which I ran in my trucks at the time) but if you want really good idle output you have to run a small diameter pulley, which isn't exactly the best setup on that engine with the 4G pulley.. With a 2" diameter pulley, the most you'll ever see for alternator RPM's at idle is about 2000, so excellent LOW idle output is very important on these vehicles.. For choices though, it really boils down to what you want to spend because I could build 30 different alts for this truck... I had 7 different 3.4L V6 Taco's so I'm just a *little* familiar with these engines and I love working on them..

What kind of vehicle is it?

Dual alternator kit requests...

How much? $125 -
I Think we have one set of cases that we can do either a 180 or 320 with, but unless your running a ton of power (3k plus) the 180 will do just fine.. Your car only has a 70 amper stock, so you can get away with a much smaller alternator than a lot of vehicles with say a 150 amp stock.. We do have XPs coming for this as well, but it is going to be after SEMA.. Rob

I apologize about the mixup on your transaction Phil.. We dont normally screw things up like this..

DC Power Rob replied to DC Power Rob's topic in DC Power Engineering
We had one at one time, but the 32v motor in those Navi's is not fun at all to work on and the kit we had was really complicated, more so than it was worth.. we may do another one in the future but it will be next year before we tackle that one.. We do get a lot of requests though for those still.. -
We've done a couple of brackets for the AC compressor spot on the Jeeps, so that's really no big deal now.. Our 270XP with the 15v regulator is exactly what your looking for spec wise, and hands down it's the best alternator you can get.. You can run one in the stock position as well if you want, we have those available now.. Rob

This is what a 270XP at full load does to a 4 cylinder camry's eng
DC Power Rob replied to DC Power Kyle's topic in DC Power Engineering
The 2.4 has no problem swinging an XP, we just have a REALLY small pulley on Kyles car because when I put it in I didn't want to change belts to run a bigger pulley. On 4 cylinder cars we tend to run bigger pulleys on the XP's because A) they dont need need overdrive pulleys, and B) the mechanical advantage from better ratios make them easier to turn.. The next vid Im going to make of Kyles car is what an XP will do with a stock diameter decoupler pulley... Will make the same output with no vibration and I'll make a before/after vid.. -
Dual alternator kit requests...

I have a bracket here to use.. All of the 4.3 and 5.7's use the same AC bracket, and we keep most all of the OEM mounting brackets here for reference and to use for things like this.. It also makes things much easier for belt alignment etc.. -

Yeah, overseas shipping is killer for sure.. Material expense on simple brackets is nothing, its CNC time thats the killer @ $95/hr... We can definitely do them though.. -
Yes, you can install it no problem, I thought I clarified that, my apologies Stefan.. You can install it and run it with the supplied harness with no troubles at all. The alternator functions totally independent at this point.. It will just turn on the CEL until you put the resistor in the harness but will go out as soon as it's there.. And, to answer your last question, you are correct, in-between B1 and B2.. **Edit, sorry about not replying sooner, just got back to LA.. Still no high speed internet at home in SLC, and it's tough to use my ipad when I cant pry it out of my 2 year olds hands.. WI-Fi tethering and unlimited 3G on the ipad though is very sweet...

thanks for the help guys guess im gonna go with the 180HP series, if i had the money id just go for the 270XP but thats a bit more then i can/want to spend right now. The 270XP's are wicked nasty alts to be sure, but if you dont really need it, Im not going to tell you that you do just to sell you one... The 180HP's are just wicked nasty little alternators..

It can be done pretty easily, but you will most likely have to relocate or modify the coolant overflow tank.. If you dont mind doing that then we can do pretty much anything you want.. Rob

Sounds great, just let me know when your ready.. Rob

The 4.3's are definitely at the top of the list.. They are just Sooooo tight on space, definitely not an easy vehicle to do.. It's the same front end as the 5.7's, we just cant use our brackets for those because of space... The brackets for the 4.3 AC compressor replacement would be a snap to do, and although the install in the link was nice and clean, I would do them a bit different because of possible case clearance issues in the rear.. I've made a ton for other vehicles with pad mount compressors, just never had a need to do it for the 4.3V6.. I could probably make the brackets for about $125, maybe less because they really would be pretty simple, but to do them one off there's a couple hours worth of work there to make them dead on, trust me.. let me know what you think.. Rob -
If they weren't today, they will be tomorrow.. I'm back in L.A. now so I will make sure it gets handled tomorrow.. Did you get the alternator in yet? I installed the exact same (pretty much) 270XP on a '98 Ram 3500 with a 5.9 Cummins on Sunday and was reallly pleased with the way it went on the install.. Performance was ok too, it *only* did 180 at idle though with a stock 2 3/4" pulley..
