Just happened to read around on a topic about impedance rise at different frequencies... Well, nevermind I guess.
-
Funny you say that, because between my 2 N2s, they have slightly different finishes on the dust caps... Because I had one of the first N2s, maybe I had the order that split the leftover dust caps from Gen 2s, and the new ones.

I believe it's identical.

doubling amp power : results ?
AllenH427 replied to Notorious97200's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
OP: The jump from the 1500 to the 3000 should be very noticeable. No matter what power you're getting out of the 3k, you were roughly getting the same ratio out of the 1.5k. Look at it this way, assuming you are wired to one ohm. I DO NOT KNOW THE RATED SPECS FOR SUNDOWN AMPS, THIS IS ALL A GUESSTIMATE: Saz1500, starting impedance 1 ohm, rise to 2 ohms, drop to 13.5 volts, you'd get 700 watts. Saz3000, starting impedance 1 ohm, rise to around 2.1 ohms (more heat), drop to 13.0 volts, you'd see around 1400 watts. That's still double in power which should be a 2-3db gain. I'd say closer to 3 due to the fact that you're not maxing out the BTLs limits with that power at all. 3 db is a pretty decent gain to the ear. I went from a AQ1200d to the AQ 3500.1d. I metered a 137.5 with the AQ1200d, and (with new alt), soon to do a mid 144 with the AQ 3500.1, the 144 is not a guess, I did a 143.8db outside of my car, inside will gain me around half a db. But, I'm only clamping a little over 1kw from my AQ 3500.1. In the same box, it is safe to say my rise with the AQ1200 was similar to my rise with the AQ3500.1. Same everything but different amps, I saw exactly a 7.3db gain, and I'll tell ya, that was extremely noticeable to the ear. Assuming your box is the same, voltage drop a little more (should be, double in power), to the ear it should be fairly louder. -
Then wouldn't a BTL without the HiXmax coil not be as good as those because it is only 18mm.. Kind of strange that a company would make there most expensive subs the worst one they produce? Xmax determines next to nothing, look at the other parameters.

Same wiring, I clamped 1718 watts this time with different meters.. Either way, there was no increase in power, but with a decent amount of testing and a car on run, did a 143.7 certified.

Some of you might've seen my scores before. I have 2 12 BTLs in a 4.2 cube box tuned to 33 hz. I'm running the AQ 3500.1. My burp score is currently at 142.7 (2 batts) at 38 hz in my 02 Camry. The score seems alright for a trunk car, especially at that frequency. Well I clamped my amp, car was on this time with 3 batts. My rise is from 1.0 ohms to 4.5 ohms and I only clamped a little over 1,000 watts out of my amp. So for my 142.7 run, it's probably a safe guess to say it was only around 800-900 watts. In conclusion, I'm more satisfied with my score now seeing on how little power I'm using. Sucks that my rise is so bad.. But.. GO BTLs!

I listened to those Dr. Dre beats, the different models at best buy... my $50 computer headset sounds better than those.. Poor young boys are fooled by the "Dr. Dre" name.

Yeah, it has a place for an additional ground, but it totally makes sense what you're saying. -
I think everyone is over looking the real problem. He just set his gain halfway, with no testing whatsoever. He said it got louder when he turned up his gain but he didn't think he should have to do that. He has a 2V HU, he'll need to turn the gain up pretty high for that.. This should end the thread right here... TURN UP YOUR GAIN.

The biggest XS power battery you can fit up front, and a single D3100 in the back, you should be fine with a stock alt.

People turning this place into ca . com.... I'd roll with the BL, I've never been impressed by Rockford Subs and finding a new W7 at the same price as a BL seems unrealistic. Also, if you ever blow the W7, the recone is insanely expensive, a recone would be much cheaper for the BL. Also, when you order from Fi, you get top notch customer service and they'll deal with you personally.. I don't think the owners of JL are directly helping out their customers.

This past weekend I attended DBDrag World Finals at Dayton Ohio (I only live 45 minutes away) and competed in the 3x event. The event was ran great from the judges and ran smooth from start to finish. I was very happy to see fellow Fi competitors. One was Dr. Boom. For those of you that don't know him, he has 6 15" BTLs walled in a Scion xB off of 6 Sundows 3500s. His install was by far the cleanest there, and his car was a show stopper for sure. I got a demo from him, unfortunately my esophagus started to close up so it got hard to breathe, but boy did those BTLs sound great!! A total of 5 light bulb covers fell from the ceiling, 3 from Dr. Boom himself, the other 2 were from 2 different guys. Here's a video of Dr. Booms final DBDrag run: Last weekend, March 12th, was my first official try at bass race for the 129.9 class. It was my first time practicing ever and my first run was a 129.9 right off the bat. When it came time in the lanes, I ended up taking second by barely busting with a 130.0, but overall I won the ESP Challenge as the best Bass Racer over all, and I came in 2nd at Street B. At World Finals, I only did bass race for the 3x since I wouldnt stand a chance against the CRXs in Street B. The practice runs go in order: .7 .8 .9 .9. Then I qualified with a .9. When it came time in the lanes, I got a .8 but it didn't cut it against Team Concepts Davis who got a .9. The good news is that he won the World Championship and I just barely lost to him. So overall I placed 3rd in the 129.9 class at World Finals... keep in mind this was my legit 2nd Bass Race event ever. So far my awards from the past 3 events: -Street B First Place -Bass Race 129.9 Second Place -Street B Second Place -ESP Challenge Winner -World Finals 3X Bass Race 129.9 Third Place Only one brand could get me these results and that is Fi. The BTLs are by far the best sounding high output drivers. Not only do they get loud, they sound fantastic, get low, and stay cool for when you want to bass for long periods of time. Scott has proven himself to be one of the top subwoofer engineers in the world. When combining Fi's top notch customer support from Scott and Nick, along with high quality parts, USA craftsmenship, and unparalleled design, you get the best subwoofer company out there. I'd also like to give a shoutout to XS Power for making quality batteries that keep your voltage high when you crank the volume. Also a shoutout to Audioque for making the best output:price:quality ratio you can get for an amplifier.

Just won the ESP Challenge again!!! Got $100 for that, and won the 129.9 bass race class. I decided just to do Street C today so I only had to disconnect one of my rear batteries, put my score up to a 142.7, car still off.

Mechman one is on the way though!! And child abuse: http://s132.photobucket.com/albums/q30/MetalHead42792/?action=view¤t=vid00014-20110228-1715.mp4

I have the exact same car and color, I'm interested to see what tint looks like on it... I was feeling 20% on side windows, 5% on the rear, and 60% on the windshield. I have two BTL N2s on an AQ 3500.1 and just metered a 141.9 legal, firing forward and sealed.. very hard cars to get loud in.

The competition at Indianapolis for DBDrag on February 26th had 5 competitors in the Street B class. Including myself, we all had trunk cars. I wasn't planning on running DBDrag (only bassrace) at first cause I found out I'd have to disconnect my rear two batteries for the Street B class. Well then I started watching the qualifying runs and saw three 137s, and one guy with a 140.1. I knew my N2s on my AQ 3500.1 would hit near the 142 range, so I ran to Ace Hardware, bought some bolts, and disconnected my rear batteries. Since I qualified so late, none of the Street B guys even knew I was in there class. I think my qualifying score was a 141.9. When it came time in the lanes, I advanced to finals and won with a 141.8 vs a 139.8. Key notes to keep in mind: My Camry meters awful, very hard to get loud in I've heard numerous early 140s systems and mine is BY FAR the loudest to the ear (which is what matters to me.) A lot of people came up to me and commented on how quiet my system was from outside my car, but then when I gave them demos- it was a different story. My charging voltage is 13.4V until I get a new alternator. I hope to be in the mid 142s when I get it. I gave 3 people demos, got one guy hooked on getting some Qs, and 1 guy hooked on getting a single 15" N2. All 3 people commented on how good my BTLs sounded. Box is 4.2 cubes net, single 6" aero, tuned to 33hz. My burp scores were at 38hz. Scott, Nick, I'll be ordering some Tshirts this upcoming week so I can rep you guys, do you're sizes run a little large or average?

Fi wins Street B for DBDrag in Indy on Feb 26th
AllenH427 replied to AllenH427's topic in General Fi
Thanks guys, it was in Indianapolis at Excessive DBs.. To me, it's a disappointing score, and it's not due to the BTLs. I've never had good luck with the meter in my car. I do lack port area.. I've been talking to Anton Miller and he gave me some pointers. My setup (firing forward, sealed from the trunk) is better with a door/window open. To the ear, it is much louder with a window open. He said I should try firing the subs forward, but port to the side. This isn't the first time I've heard this either, so I maybe give it a go. -
Fi Q 12 ported, tuned low, off of a AQ 1200D.

I texted Dbeez, haha, I bought mine from him. Yeah, its 16. -
Eh, judging by your concern with peak ratings, I don't think you have near the electrical that an amp for two n2s would be demanding.
