  1. Ok this is one of my first posts and I'm pretty audio ignorant so bear with me. I have a 2008 silverado duramax crew cab and a sundown 1200 mono amp. I know the box has to go under the seat unless I do crazy customization so there isn't much room. The box that has been recommended to me by a few people is this one http://subthump.com/Chevrolet-GMC-Sub-Boxes/Silverado-Sierra-Crew-Cab/07-Up-New-Body-Style-GM-Crew-Cab-Dual-Downfire-Box.html It holds 2 10s and has a mounting depth of 6.5 with .83 ft per chamber and it's sealed. Downfiring. I know a g con and a sa10 would fit but the sa 10 requires .5ft while the gcon ranges from .85-1.25. I need to know what two subs would sound better with that setup, and im open for suggestions on a dif box too! Any help will be appreciated I messaged denim about it but I feel bad for bothering the guy he's busy I know.

What sub would perform better in this box?

The DCONs are great subs but the GCONs will be better for your application. The quote button is in the bottom right corner of each post. Ahhh my iPhone hid it Til I actually clicked the bottom right corner. Damn man thanks a lot you've helped me the most with my sub setup so far.

Idk how to quote on here yet but Steve why didn't you like the sa's? And I hadn't even looked at the dcons. Now I'm wondering if they'd do better in my box haha. But I feel that my amp would overpower them unless I turned it down if that's even possible. I'm gonna figure out this audio stuff eventually I love it too much not to.

Thanks for the input guys....bout to order the gcons. Think they'll bump pretty hard in a downfiring box? My only worry is they won't be loud enough I'm fairly sure they'll sound clean though most sealed boxes I've heard do. They just seem to have not as much volume but these subs seem pretty damn legit and I know my sundown amp is at least decent.

Ok thanks! Will it be a big deal that my sundown 1200 won't be able to push them to their rms rating?

What sub would perform better in this box?

Thanks for the replies! I also just noticed the skar audio vvx10. I looked around and it seems that if you divide the Fms number(hertz) and the qes number and the result is below 50 and up to about 75, then a sealed box is better suited. Well I may have screwed up royally because I'm so new to this but I did the sa which came out to be 64.5, the gcon, which came out to be 61.4, and the vvx, which came out to be 57.8. Now assuming I did right, does that mean the skar would work best in a sealed box compared? I also read that if your box doesn't have enough cubes it doesn't sound as good. Taking sub displacement into account wouldn't that mean that .83 cubes would not suit well with the gcon? The skar needs .65 and after displacement I figured that'd put it closer to optimal output than the g con or sa. I know I'm probably wrong so please correct me people haha.

Thanks for the offer man but I'm really just trying to decide between the gcon and sa. Being that the box won't have enough ft to support the gcon what does that mean? G con needs .85 this one has .83 and I think it will lose more ft when the sub is installed? I think that's displacement? I'd aprreciate some help guys!
  8. Well that's awesome then! Its on a truck for delivery in my town so i'll have it back in soon!!
  9. Hey guys i'm new to the forum pretty much and i drive a 2011 camaro. i got that sundown amp with an incriminator audio death row 12.... i took it to the most reputable shop in town and asked them to install it. i've taken three cars to this place before and nothing has ever went wrong. They hooked it up, said everything was great, but they had set the gain on the lower side as i would need to break in the subwoofer for awhile and go easy on it. that was fine with me because i wasn't really gonna start slamming til i replaced my door speakers which will happen around late october. well the system worked fine the first day, it sounded amazing, better than anything i've heard in my previous vehicles. But then when i was driving the power to the amp just shut off. i pulled over immediately and checked the amp, it was a little hot, but not anything over the norm. the sub wasn't warm at all and there was absolutely no smell. i got in the car, and the system came back on when i cranked up, only to shut off again a minute later and i had the volume on 5 out of 45, you could barely feel the base. so i knew i wasn't overpowering the amp. I took it back to the shop and watched them take it apart to see what the problem was, as the fuse had blown on the amp and the power wire. Everything was hooked up correctly, i watche right over their shoulder, nothing was loose. i even looked up the way to wire the car online and they did it step for step. The owner told me he knew sundown was a great product, and in the many he's installed nothing like this happened. he seems to think it is just a malfunction and a one in a thousand chance thing. Any ideas on what could've happened? i really hope it was just a one time thing and i can get a new one!!
  10. I'm hoping thats what it was! I sent it to Jacob. Oh i'm relieved too i was more stressed about this than my work. I can't wait to bump again!!!
  11. ok got a tracking number today so i guess it is fixed or either a new one is on the way. Jacob hasn't gotten back to me yet about what went wrong but i'm sure he will when he has time...i'm guessing it was the amp as i didn't get charged for shipping or anything. I can't wait to find out what the issue was!
  12. the amp and sub. oh well the low levels just make it so you dont need a loc or anything so no chance of DC being on the lines.
  13. No, didn't use a Loc, just tapped into the low level inputs which didn't have DC on them. I'm not sure whether its a v1 or v2 but i got it brand new a few months ago from the SSA store.
  14. i already sent it in i'm just doing everything i can to rule out installer error. That's all i'm going for. i want to do everything i can myself to pinpoint the problem while i wait. I've ruled out stock electrical, it can handle it, as i know camaro owners with this amp. i've ruled out DC on the RCA's, and i've ruled out the ground wire. Just looking for the next thing to check
  15. I checked the battery and oem alternator as posted above. they are well above the capacity to handle my amp. i have people who are running my amp in their camaro, same year, but with different subs. i know a guy with a sax 1500 on his camaro with stock battery and its going fine. my 14.6 volt can handle it. So how about you stop wasting my time with replies on things i've already checked. you "mine" as well back off.

  17. Ok guys and girls, I checked my system out with a volt meter yesterday. I checked to see whether they tapped into the low level inputs like i wanted or whether they used the high level ones with a LOC. They didn't. They tapped directly into the low level inputs just like every DIY guide i see says to do. There was no DC voltage on the RCA's. I've checked my ground which is on my negative battery cable. That's fine too. I know the stock electronics can handle it, my friend is putting slightly more than i was to his and he's been fine for months. So what next do i check behind on my installer?
  18. i sent an email saturday, and what is normal before i take it back to the shop to get them to check this. Is it not enough that they hooked a kenwood amp up to the same system and its doing just fine? ( doesn't sound as good)
  19. true. the link is to show you how they did it. people are saying its installer error well tell me whats weong with it. its exactly as you see it. i'm running a kenwood 350 monoblock really old and its doing fine so i guess that HAS to mean its installer error? well i like to be smart and play it safe break it in good then let it wham when its ready.
  20. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67472&highlight=adding tell me whats wrong with what they did.
  21. it is. its a 14 volt. i guess you're right but since they've done a camaro before, my friends, i know its the amp. and i did that with the amp that was in my truck its working fine but the amp is so weak its barely beating....its only a 350 watt monoblock...don't get me wrong sounds good but not as good as the sundown did.
  22. i can. i couldn't on any car but this one but i have literally about 100 photos from the camaroforum of people doing step by step instructions on putting it in. this place has been in business for 20 years and has done my friends camaro. it wasn't user or installer error. it never got loud enough to blow anything. Getting "loud enough" has absolutely nothing to do with the probability of something failing if not setup properly. And the audio shop I went to when I was 16 had a good rep and was in business for a while and still is in business. Long story short, they destroyed my car. Oh and to top it off I knew everything back then too. true. man i'm telling you i have a buddy who went to them and they installed everything the same way same gauge wire same everything even subwoofer and his is working great today and has never had a problem. They've double checked it all and i was there when they did and it is identical to the way they did my buddy's....i just can't think it could be installation. then why don't you take it back to "20 year-double check audio"? if you aren't willing to at least listen to the advice given here then dont waste anymore of everyones time. for the record, your problem IS both installer(your shop) error and owner(you) ignorance. i know for a fact that sundown amps are some of the absolute best you can buy. extremely well made and individually tested. and shizzon knows his shizznit, you shoulda listened. but listen ignorant since you know so much just tell me every little thing my installer could've done wrong. i know enought to check it out. just try me. i can post pictures. its always nice to shut someone down who doesn't have a clue what they're talking about. Name each thing. with the what, 10 wires at most that are used to install the system when that battery is in the trunk right below the system. just tell me where they screwed up, i'll take the picture to show you that you're wrong, and i'll even show you the instructions i went by smart one. i'm waiting. show me how great you are

YOUR ignorance is evident. i listened to the advice, but no one wants to address the real problem here: what went wrong with this amp? the shop is not the problem they know what they're doing. way more than you do obviously. hey my guy said he knew sundown was good too thats why he was suprised i got a lemon. he said when i walked in with the amp " damn son you spent a pretty penny on this piece of fine machinery" so back off you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. it was the amp. face it. like i said my friend has the same car, box, and sub, but on a stetsom amp. and his has worked great since MY shop installed it. no more need to show ignorance man chill. lets just try to find out what went wrong inside this amp.

  25. yeah i am. i don't but clearly you can't be any guru. i've seen physical proof of a sub needing to be broken in man. you can't just push it to the max from the box. i will know that and have for awhile...it wasn't the subs at all man the amp was malfunctional.
