which would perform better in a ported box on 1200 watts?
-
Another thing is you may have the file for the old Q's. it took me ALOT of searching to find the 2010 FI Q file. they are quite different. the old sub modeled terrible in small boxes.

Turns out the cutout was just a little bit too big and 4 screws were right on the edge, I slapped them in at an angle and it works great now. The bass is more then awesome everything shakes at the opposite corner of my house downstairs . I had a neighbor 4 doors down tell me they could hear it and my neighborhood is really spread out

Would it work out fine if i were to buy an BL or BTL, build an enclosure to spec, and power it with a crown amp or something or is that a dumb idea?
-
Behringer EP4000 lol, about 8 pages too late. Appreciate the input though. Im already pushing it with one of behringer's new EPQ2000's. Welcome to SSA!!!!

Oh idk, its just that mdf is sorta weak for holding screws and i needed alot of torque to hold the driver in and screws just dont work well.
-
It sounds great without the driver properly mounted, I dont think the mount will make a huge difference but I definitely need to get it mounted soon to prevent wear on the baffle. parts express usually ships pretty fast.
-
I sortta finished it last night minus the sanding and wood filling screw holes, I tried to get away without tnuts and I'm not positive what happened but it didn't want to mount great, only half the screws grabbed good and one like... broke or something. It plays fine but low notes let some air thru the driver. I'm going to just leave it weakly mounted until I get the t-nuts I ordered last night. I'm in school on my phone again and dont have enough time to upload pics so I will when I get home. Thanks for your help, I'm more then satisfied with the build!!!!

Sorry everyone ive been gone for the holidays the last few days, I bought 3 sheets of mdf today. tommorow I am going to a family members house who is experienced with wood working and making all of the cuts, before I make my cuts does anybody see anything wrong with my box plans? here are the winisd and sketchup files in a zip http://www.2shared.com/file/JocbNtV5/Q18_D2_Build.html . the box is 10 ft cubed after all displacements with a 3.5"x 26.5"x 47"(length) port for a tune of 21Hz. Should be fun thanks for all of the help everyone! especially Sam i dont think i would of been able to figure this all out without your help

Got my driver, wired it up in free air a just to see how my amp performs w/ my receiver pre out and i noticed the sub makes quite a bit of mechanical noise even at low volume, is this normal?
-
there a little under 6 so ya that makes sence, i was like... okay haha. the sub is due the 24 so this friday. i shud have the enclosure a few days after hopefully!!

I got my behringer amp, decided to throw it on my elt525 monitors to see how it sounded and it sounds amazing!!! only thing that confuses me is that there rated at 100wpc and there taking everything the behringer can throw at them with no distortion at all?!?!?! oh well im sure it outs out more past the meter on the front says because i never hit the limiter light at all.

My phone has an 8 megapixel camera and i always have it on me, also love to take pictures so ill take several throughout the building process!!

yeah its a really nice saw but he said there blades go thru tons of abuse and there not allowed to change it unless someone is sent out because insurance blah blah.
-
Turns out my moms boyfriend's friend owns a shop ans makes speaker enclosures, crossovers, towers, and complete systems for a living cant beleive i didnt figure this out until now. his shop is about 2 hours away so i arranged to meet down there and do all of the enclosure related things on the 28th!!! this shud make things much easier

Well, I went to lowes and their saw had way too rough of a blade to cut mdf w/o totaly ripping up the side. so i think im gonna just have to do it with a handsaw and buy a carbide blade. a family member of mine has a high end handsaw that will perform much better then mine. im thinking about trying to secure a strip of mdf alligned to the blade offset from the edge of the saw to try and make straight cuts, or just doing it free hand. not sure yet. i know a few people with table saws but none of them measure up to 38 inches

Oops doubble post

what size drillbit shud I use for pre drilling the holes? and what type of glue.
-
alright cool, using my jigsaw should i cut both layers at once or separately?
-
Im not positive if im going to be able to use a router for my cuts i have a jigsaw and may have to use that. my question is i originally planned on cutting the inner baffle to the normal size and outer larger so sub would be more flush w/ wood. but since im using a jigsaw and its hard to make perfect cuts is the outer ring going to look like crap next to the perfect circle of the sub? if i use a jigsaw would it be better to just cut both sheets to sub diameter? also will mounting the sub with regular screws have any disadvantages over using t nuts?

All right, sounds.... almost too simple haha. whatever works right!

already ordered 200 "cabinet screws" off parts express, it was only like $3-$4 for 200 1 1/2 inch screws (couldn't decide between 1 1/2 or 2" screws but went w/ 1 1/2) also got some nice 12 gauge wire, gasket tape, and 2 terminal cups (I want to be able to switch wiring configs between 1 and 4 ohm externally) all for $30 w/ shipping. Do I "need" filling? I am definitely already spending more then i want to. if i do need damping is there any super cheap alternative rather then buying damping? i got a GREAT deal on the amp. everywhere i saw them they were about $350. and since its a newer amp the very first one to ever go up on ebay as used (i think) according to finished listings search went up for $225 w/ $30 shipping just a few hours ago. in perfect condition too!. the guy said he used it as a diy amp to push 2 subs also and had it in a rack/case thing. so i jumped on the deal and ordered that. going up to lowes tomorrow to pickup silicone and mdf/get it cut.

Just placed the order for my Q (18", D2, Cooling, Yellow dust cap) hopefully placing the order for my amp (Behringer EPX2000) tonight. I called the lowes by me and told them what I was building and they said if I bring in cutsheets they would be happy to cut the mdf to spec for me the Cutmaster 2D sheets should be perfect. ordering terminal cups, wire, and screws from Parts Express. Do I need filling?

I have found yet another option for an amp. the newer EUROPOWER EPX2000 http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/EPX2000.aspx looks like it might work out great. it has a lower input voltage and rca so it will work with a standard pre out for sure (2 birds w/ 1 stone ). I haven't found any tests on the true rms output but anything above 1000w should be PLENTY for use in a home. it looks like I can find it for about $300 on ebay. looking on hts forums it looks like some people are allready using them for diy subs and they work just as good as the older models.
