You seem pretty set on the low tuning. Personally I am weary of the low tunning recomendations but either way if that's what you want thats fine. If you really wanted a new set up like I said I vote for a btl 18. Youve got a nice electrical set up so maybe a SAZ-2500 amp would be nice to pair with a BTL. That should get loud enough for you

Help with box dimensions and port for 2 12s
Luke.H replied to clab333's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
i have an 06 nissan altima What gen is that? I have a third gen. Stock alt is 100 amps. At full tilt the 1200 can pull 140 amps I am told. You wont see power like that most likely but either way your going to want to do the big 3 and most likely upgrade your starter battery. -
they do look awesome mine took 6850rms from my stetsom amp to one coil(due to miswire) and it was beating off that one coil for like a week straight..... then I placed it with its sister in a box for 2 18's that is 20 cubes after displacement and did a 156.7db at 27hz.... and let me tell you was not in question at all! yea I saw that in your build lol. I wish I could get an HO alt and power something like that they are awesome subs. SSA ftw

Help with box dimensions and port for 2 12s
Luke.H replied to clab333's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
Oh and btw don't put to buy too much into the "underrated" thing. I haven't seen anyone measure so I could be wrong, but at any rate I'm fairly positive its not going to be putting out a whole lot more than 1200. The important thing is that it puts out 1200 watts. Don't expect it to be pushing 1300 or something like that. I'm not hating on sundown by any means. I have an SAX-1200 and love it. They're a great company. Im just saying dont expect a 1200w amp to put out 1400 watts -

I bought from db-r and so far the amp is great. I dont know if you noticed or not but that SAE was b-stock. I think that means it will have some cosmetic defects but perform fine. I dont know what kind of car you have but if your mounting it somewhere it wont be seen thats not a big deal. I bought a refurb that wasnt b stock and you cant tell the difference between that and brand new fyi. You should be fine with the 1200 though. You didnt mention what your electrical consists of. You would definately need some upgrades for the 1500 and less so for the 1200 but that will still draw a lot of power so it all depends on your vehicle -
Before you spend all this money it might not be a bad idea to build a new box. What are you tuned to? You mentioned wanting to be tuned "low" but said you listen to mostly rap. Higher tuning will get you more output. Depending on what your currently at tuning your current set up to 35hz or so could give you a decent amount of output. You should look into tuning and really know what you want before you make a decision. If you really just want a new system I would recommend an 18 or two 15s. If it were me personally I would want a btl 18. You mentioned upgrading your amp too. I assume you know that you would most likely need an HO alt or at least a second battery for this.

lol he said nickle? Pretty sure its aluminum.....or just tinned copper

I would think you would need 4-5 cubic ft. There's plenty of designs out there. Don't use nails in your box. Your glue question has been asked not too long ago. Use the search button and you should find it. CA and Roe have box designs for two 12's. You just have to search. Not sure what amp you have but if your running 2 q's you want d1

Box looks good. I always like watching these design videos

Build looks sick man. I gotta ask do many ppl in ireland have systems? I have a friend from Cornwall and she says only chavs have them in england lol just wondering what its like in Ireland. Those subs are sexy though
-
Sweet! I might be looking for an amp for my front stage by then

Can I and should I port this box for more output?
Luke.H replied to lildragon45's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
You want to port the sealed box?? Just build a new one. That's not enough air space. Get your workable dimensions and go from there. -
Yeah man no problem. I just can't stress enough to not buy a DDM kit. I am not hating on anyone for having them but.....if you want quality and to not blind other people just retro. Plus that cut off is damn sexy. I'm sure you know this already, but Craigslist usually has some really good painters for a lot cheaper than shops Usually you can find a dude who lost his job or something and is doing it on the side. A friend found a dude on CL to do his bike. Sometimes changing the transmission fluid can make shifting smoother. Might look into that too. Your car is definitely turning out sick. Its gonna be a nice ride

yo i have a 06 3.5 se altima i have big 3 with 1/0 and my volts never drop under 13.5 with a 1200d Hopefully I end up with similar results. I don't feel like running a second battery

So I was wanting to get my first sub set up in my car and have been doing some research and was hoping to get some information from you guys. I have an 02 Nissan Altima with a pioneer deh 4200ub headunit and pioneer 6x9's and alpine type S's up front. I was originally asking about getting comps in my rear deck but Ive decided I would really like a nice sub stage instead. Amp wise I think Ive decided on something from Sundown Audio. I contacted someone from Sundown and was asking about a refurb model because I am on a budget and the savings would help, my budget is around 500-600 for the amp and sub. DB-r is their refurbisher from what ive read and currently they dont have any of the amps Im looking at but I was told a SAX-1200d would be sent over for refurb soon and I could possibly purchase that. I was thinking either the SAX or an SAE-1000d or SAZ-1000d because Id like to push about 1000w. My altenator is 100 amps and it is stock. Im planning on building the box myself and this was the general design I was thinking My link its from Mach5's site. My trunk opening is 48x11 inches. A friend of mine has a SAE-1000d and mach5 15" that Ive heard and like. I listen to indie and rap and dubstep so I was thinking of getting a sub that would get good SQ and SPL. His box is tuned more toward spl and i want to get good spl as well but sq is also important to me so Im wanting more of a "SQL" setup. I want a 15". I have been looking into either an FI audio Q 15 or SA-15. Both seem to have a good mix of SPL and SQ. The FI is alittle over my budget but I really like what ive read so if its definately the best choice Ill spend the extra cash. Im new to subs so i was wondering what you guys thought of what ive come up with so far. I was looking for some suggestions on what subs to get for my application and the best way to tune the box Im thinking maybe 30hz?? I tried to include all the info I could think of, but if I've left anything out Ill add it.

I wish I was closer to MD or NY. I would love to see some of your set ups. If there's ever a midwest meet I'd be really interested. Hope it all works out for you guys

I hope so. I think I'll like it. I took some pictures

haha it really is that way. Either way it is definitely not a very common car. I just like the way they just look like a proper luxury car. I'm subscribed to this one for sure Very true indeed, these and the Lexus with the same body style our always great to see especially in good condition. From the pictures you posted your car is in damn good shape. Idk what kind of headlights RL's have (Halogen I'm guessing?) but that car would look really good with HID's. A projector retro and bi-xenon's are the way to go imo if you ever wanted to think about it. Definitely not a PNP kit hahaha. Its a lot of work, but would definitely be cool if you ever were bored and wanted some sick headlights.

Sweet build. I've always loved RL's. You dont see many in my area idk if they're rare or what but stellar rides for sure. Good luck man its looking good. I really like that Incrimator amp

Figure I'll update this thread to let you guys know what I ended up going with. I ordered a 15" BL from Fi a little while ago. Should be in some time this week. Getting started on my box this week hopefully. Planning on going with 4.0 ft^3 tuned to 35Hz. Thanks for all your help guys I'm looking forward to the first set up. A new XS starter battery and I'll do the big 3 before I get the sub hooked up.
-
Thats a good reason to do your own installs lol
-
^ That. You won't need an HO alternator. I would think you would be fine with just the big 3 and an upgraded starter battery, but obviously you should monitor your voltage and if it gets too low add another battery. Its a couple hundred dollars for a good battery from XS. Prices are right here in the SSA store
