best amp choice
Luke.H replied to mikeyraw215's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Usually for personal reasons and it makes a setup more cosmetic appealing. I like matching amps and I personally would go with the DD if it was out the two your looking at, nothing wrong with Powerbass though. Its your money and your install, get what you and your wallet like. Makes sense. I hadn't considered that aspect. -
best amp choice

Why do you want your amps to match? The DD is a pretty good amp IMO I am not familiar with the PB. Being able to do rated power at 11.9V vs the PB's 14.4V could potentially be a big plus for you -
Sound Deadening On a Budget is the thread I was referring to. Sorry to get off topic. I just saw you mentioned it and wanted to be sure you had the proper info before buying. Enjoy SSA, if you put in the right effort you can learn a lot here

there's a recent thread about sound deadening I would advise you to read before you purchase fatmat

Trunk build FTW

I mentioned that I wasn't suggesting that you would base your decision off the video and I got the joke. I just don't want anyone to get the wrong idea reading this topic.

Picking a battery for my system

Sundown amps are not covered under warranty when ran below 1 ohm FYI -
The point being made is that you learn nothing from watching a video. It might look "cool" but seeing flex or whatever doesn't tell you at all how that system really sounds. Basing your equipment decision on a video is just about the stupidest thing anyone can do (I'm not suggesting you are). If they entertain you that's all well and good, but don't use them as an indicator of the quality of the equipment being run.
-
There's certainly not any shortage of them

The sundown subs here have free shipping and the ZCON and XCON don't. So depending on your location they could come out to about the same price. I'm not comparing the two I'm just letting you know.

Meh depending on the quality of the install a nice set of equipment could sound really bad. On the other hand hearing a friends 15" Mach 5 IXL on a SAE-1000 is what convinced me to start my system

Need help on what amp i should use ?
Luke.H replied to matj1990's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
What kind of enclosure will you be putting them into? -
Well you can't compare 2 12 kenwoods to a DD 9015 LOL. What were saying is 2 12s will be equally loud as a single 15 in optimal enclosures with the same power. I did choose a single 15 because its cheaper and the enclosure was a little smaller (that's not always the case). Lots of people go that route. Adding another bl or a zcon and ruinning your amp at the full 2200W will give you a noticeable increase in output assuming you have the right electrical and enclosure.
-
The difference between two 12s ported and a single ported 15 in optimal enclosures will be minimal. In theory the 12s have more cone area and would be slightly louder, but in all likelyhood you won't hear the difference.
-
I would ask what its going to be tuned to and be sure that its to your liking. I'm not at all familiar with that sub so I don't know if that's the correct ammount of volume. Seems a little high for a single 15 though. Larger box generally handles less power but is more efficient. If that sub is meant to be put in around 4 cubes and your putting it in 7 I would imagine the mechanical handling will be lowered a bit.

Considering you walked into an audio shop and basically said you'd take whatever for 300 dollars....I'd say you did alright. Lesson learned do a little research next time

You need to adress your electrical problems before you even think about a HO alternator. If your current alternator is shot I'd want to know why if it were me. Be sure everythings up to par for a new alternator to be installed. Having a loud daily driver and a system for competition use are two different things. You most likely won't hear the difference between a 1000W amp and a 2000W amp to the ear, but it will register on the meter. You seemed to be more focus on the dialy aspect than the competition aspect of the build. Is that correct? Define your goals clearly and someone here can offer better help than if you don't. You never mentioned the specs on that box either. Your box will have a much larger affect than your amp. Its good to know your box specs to recommend an amp too.
-
How much power are you hoping to send to that sub? You get what you pay for, especially when it comes to HO alternators. The SAZ-1500 was mentioned in this thread, if that's what you plan on going with you might be ok with just the big 3 and an extra battery in the trunk. Keep in mind I said might. I can't say for sure the only way to find out is to do it and monitor your voltage. If you need an alternator there's plenty of information around here on the forum. You're likely to get a lot of recommendations for DC power. Personally I'd read some threads on their forum here before you buy.

Are you happy with the way the BL sounds? If you like your BL, but want more output why not just get another? IIRC you have an AQ2200 and a D1 BL right now so your all set to add another.
-
There is no such thing as an "all around better" sub. Compromises will always have to be made, you have to choose which ones.
-
Ok, well assuming your just running a single 15 you could run it at a 1ohm load or a 4ohm load. You should look for an amp that is rated at 1ohm stable. Some suggestions that come to mind are Sundown and AudioQue, but of course there are many other options. There was a thread for some DD amps posted in the FS section. Rated to do 1000W at 11.9V IIRC. I'm not personally familiar with them, but it may be something worth looking into. GL

No not true. In fact there was a thread posted up earlier this morning where this was mentioned. The OP was asking a question about a pair of Icon 12's if you care to search for it

Did you already buy the Orion? What impedence are your voice coils? You've got to include that if you want us to recommend you an amp
