I think you've got the right idea. No reason spending tons of money on a rope if you're not going to be doing it a lot. Most people use a wakeboard or ski rope so that will easily be a step up from that.

Funny, am shopping for one in another browser in parallel On my old lake I'd just wear my wetsuit, but that isn't legal and on Tonka they'll probably do something. Floats enough to have someone save my life if necessary, but not coast guard approved. Frustrated with all I've tried on as they aren't long enough when they fit my chest. Even the XL? Hmmmmm I wanna say that I've seen some XL longs before which are just longer for taller people. O'neil has a sizing chart on their website and the XLT is meant for people up to 6'5". If there's a dealer in your area you could try one on and see how the fit is. I've got an Assault and like it.

I ride 13/13 when I snowboard too, but I'm a park guy. I think I ride the same for wakeboard, but haven't messed with my stance in forever. I would start with 15/15 if that's what you're already comfortable. There's really no set way to determine asfaik. I'd bring the tools to adjust it and just ride around and tweak it until it feels right. That's pretty much the best way to get it, but I know it's hard to decide at first. It just takes some tweaking and time

Did multiple runs of 1/0 really help you?
Luke.H replied to ilikedirt's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Agreed. I have multiple runs of 1/0 and it dropped my voltage to 9.4volts wtf. Then I switched and ran a single run of 8 gauge and bam 16.5 volt. Wtf. There has to be something wrong then... (or is this a joke ? because it seems like it) Running 16.5 volts on 8 gauge? I think its a joke ... XD you can run millions of volts thru 8 guage (no joke ) Damm really! i didnt know that. Hehe i learned some new today Volts yes. That doesn't mean you can run a high powered system with 8 awg -
Sean, I forgot to mention lifejackets. I don't know if you're already set for them or not, but a good neoprene life jacket is a smart investment. They're 1000X more comfortable than "normal" ones which makes a huge difference when you're out all day. I've always liked Oneil and Hyperlite.

I've never kneeboarded but I hear it can be brutal. I've tried to slalom so many times, but never could. Even when I tried dropping a ski I'd always end falling and swallowing about a gallon of water.

It's going to come down to preference. The idea of having the shorter thicker rope is so that you can pull yourself into the sweet spot of the wake. I'm not familiar with that rope and there's no description, but I think ours is 20'. Every boat is a little different so it's hard for me to say. I know it's easier to toss the handle in the boat with a shorter rope so you're not dragging it behind you. Just be careful not to pop anyone in the face with the handle LOL. I haven't heard much about that Proline or that brand in general so I don't want to comment on its quality. You can either buy a rope and handle separate or a package. I've got a separate, but you can easily spend $100+ on a rope and handle so I'd read around on those Prolines and see if they're good because that price is a lot better than most of the stuff I've seen. EVO Gear has an outlet store that sometimes offers great prices. I checked a little and didn't see anything jump out at me, but it's a good site to know about. I've never bought wakeboard gear from them, but I've gotten snowboard goggles and I was pleased.

Thanks, hard to sort through this for a noob and reading forums with NO background doesn't always help get things pointed in the right direction. More than willing to research but I love it when its shortened I read through that guide and I think it's pretty good. I linked you to the main page so that you could see it from the beginning. There's links to other sections and one of them is a really simplified sizing chart. It's in CM but you can just convert it to feet and inches. Here that is Sizing Table. I really don't think you need to do crazy ammounts of research. Just get decent equipment for a decent price and you'll be happy. As a beginner the best thing you can do is find a decent board for a decent price and learn to ride it well. Once you determine how you like to ride then go out and invest in something you really like. By that point you will know what your preferences are and can find a board to accommodate them.
-
How elaborate are you planning to get with it?
-
If you get a wakeboard as well I recommend learning to ride with your feet at equal angles (ie 13 13). Reason being that once you get better it will make riding switch a TON easier. If you can find both used I would go for it. Maybe new boots if that grosses you out plus size 15 is going to be tough to find used. You could try duck butter if you have to size down, it's this lube shit they sell to help people get into the boots. IMO if you can get that broadcast for $100 go for it. I've ridden one and they're nice boards. I checked and I've seen them in 4"9' and 5"6 and either of those will work for you. Not to mention that boards about $300 new.

It's been pucking miserable up here too so I know where your coming from. I'm looking forward to seeing you cram all of that in a TC though

I would do this.

If you don't wait for the Icon the SSD would be my choice given your budget

I forgot to add a sizing guide. Did a quick search and this seems to be about right Sizing Guide. It's going to come down to personal preference, but this can at least get you started

It sounds pretty solid to me. I asked and got a similar answer about the motor. According to him Malibu's pretty competitive with MC. For what you're describing it sounds perfect. That's essentially what my family does and wakeboard boats have always been great for us. I don't spend much time listening to the audio system personally, but what the X-Star had last summer was pretty nice. I would imagine something like that would suffice for you. That lake looks great BTW. Wouldn't have guessed that's Minnesnowta

What size shoe do you wear? If you've got huge feet you'll most likely want a wider board. What stance do you ride when you wakeboard as in binding positioning (for example left foot 12 degrees right 15 degrees)? If you duck your feet out a ton you might be able to get away with a normal width board. Generally speaking someone of your weight will want a longer board, maybe something like a 4'9". There are sizing charts available, but you'll have to decide which ones to trust. The rocker is up to you. If I were in your shoes I would look into buying used because a board of that size and width (if you needed it) is going to be EXPENSIVE. ToWanZa might have a good board for someone your size. You should definitely look into a good pull rope for wakesurfing as well. When I learned how to do it I started on a normal wakeboard rope and when we finally got the proper rope it was much more fun. They're shorter and thicker so its easier to get to the good part of the wake. The handles are more comfy too if you're gonna be spending all day out there I personally have always rode hyperlite because I get them free. Its what the store carried and that's what was given to me. They're not bad, but I suspect you can find something better for less. I've never joined one, but I think there are a few decent wakeboarding forums around that will have wakesurfing sections. Sorry for the delayed response. That computer at work was pissing me off and I had a deadline to meet. I hope this somewhat helps you out. You're picking the right boat for it and the fat sacks are going to make it a lot of fun

I can't view those pictures here at work sadly. Moving to a new office and while that's happening I'm stuck on a computer running IE6. I looked into that malibu though and see what you mean about the bow, but I know what you mean about chicks and kids being the only ones who ride up there. We took an X-Star out last summer andapparently the only thing that matters about that boat is that there's enough room to lay out on the bow lol. I wish I knew more about Malibu, but I just don't. Its always been MasterCraft and Supra. Having a boat with fat sacks makes wakeboarding 100x better if you haven't tried surfing behind a good wakeboard boat you really should. Its easier than wakeboarding and tons of fun. It sounds like you've got the boat situation all figured out (I'm not suprised) so I'm sure it will work out great. When I get out of here ill ask the old man what he knows about that bu ie anything on that model to check when buying used. You probably already know what to look for, but what the hey if I can help ill try.

Car looks good. Should be a cool build. What kind of exhaust did you go with?

I'm curious what boat you're looking into buying. My family owns a MasterCraft dealership and dads been selling boats for years so its an interest of mine. Did you end up going with that Malibu? They're straight inboards right? I haven't paid for it yet. 2004 Malibu 23 LSV. Straight inboard, similar to the X-35 but with less deadrise and a flatter transom so it will ski better perhaps but have less rough water capability. Only two brands I was/am considering. Mastercraft and Malibu. pucking impossible to find a decently priced used MasterCraft in a modern hull so Malibu it was. I did buy this one potentially as a temporary boat as I bought it at a price I think I can flip it for another $5g's up here which covers the shipping and leaves me a few g's leftover. Sort of a test bed to see if I like this style of boat for our lake. Reason for a wakeboard boat is the slip that I own is limited to a 24' boat and I want as much room as possible, but am not old enough for a pontoon. Figured the seating, stereo, fit and finish and resale are where it is at in those two brands. If your family has an old X-15, X-35 or Maristar 215,235 I am interested. Not so much in the X-30,230 or anything older as my mantra is and always be that buying price doesn't matter, but buying price - selling price does and for that the most recent hull that is depreciated the furthest is best. We don't have anything used at the moment. I just included that information to explain why I was asking you about it. We don't put much of our focus in boats anymore. If someone wants to order a new one custom in Cincinnati they go can go through us. Buying a brand new boat isn't something I would do personally, lol. Our current runabout is an older Cudi Natique. I don't think something like that would have the space you're looking for. The bows on Malibu's and MasterCrafts are very spacious so I understand your reasoning for choosing a wakeboard boat. If you do get into skiing a straight inboard is great, they through out a much nicer wake than an I/O. I can say that finding a used MasterCraft for a decent price in good shape is a dificult task so Malibu seems like a good choice. Good luck with the purchase I hope it all works out well.

To figiure out your dimensions you should start by measuring your trunk opening. The inside of your trunk might be 48" wide but if the opening is only 30" you've got a problem. You can mock up a box with cardboard or plywood to get an idea of what will fit. How big is the box you currently have? I agree with Duran's BTL suggestion. That would be a nice choice for what you want. Just be sure you have the electrical to back your amp because electrical upgrades aren't cheap.
-
It would help if you listed some goals for the system. It's hard to recommend something without knowing what it is you're looking for. You should also list your max dimensions for a box because I have some doubts that an Accord is going to be able to fit 2 15's or an 18 in a properly sized ported enclosure. I could be wrong so without knowing the space you have to work with it's hard to say.
-
Did you change any settings on you amp when you moved the box?

My new hooptie, 1980 CoupeDeville. Bumping on a budget.

I was wondering the same thing. There's just something inherently cool about a black cadillac
