    Welcome to the IHoP

Which came with a ridiculous storm. I remember driving home and listening to the "play by play" of the storm on the radio. I couldn't imagine sitting in traffic for 4, 5, 6 hours or more.

    Welcome to the IHoP

Yup. It's only September, but Winter feels right around the corner this year. I sure hope so as I greatly prefer it to all other seasons.

Any reviews on the CSS SD12?

CSS is considerably more popular in the home audio world; doesn't seem that many into car audio world use their products, which is a shame on their part. I personally have not used the SD12 but I have used some of the other CSS offerings and would never hesitate to recommend their products. I think there are a couple of reviews on hometheaterforum and a couple others. Hopefully Kyle can point you in the right direction. You can also contact Bob Reimer (owner of CSS) via his website at www.creativesound.ca

Heading to the Twin Cities tomorrow That will be exciting. Buy Sean a lap dance for me while you're there.

    Welcome to the IHoP

I dropped Japanese on Saturday's because I'm too busy already. My computer science class on Wednesday's is filled with numbskulls and the teacher is really sub-par, so it's tough to motivate myself to attend. No tests yet, though.

    Welcome to the IHoP

So busy lately. How/what is everyone doing?
  7. Oh Jim... you have bested me again! Recommendations are for the 15" Icon, as that is the size I used. Hopefully in the near future I will have some of the 10's and 12's up here as well. For 2.5-3 cubes, I would say no more than 1 kW is necessary in the house. For those who really like to push their subs in a vehicle, you could do 1500 W on the smaller side. For 4-5.5 cubes, I'd say 500-800 W is appropriate. Keep in mind that music is very transient in nature; if you're putting 1.5kW on the Icon via a lower frequency sine wave for many successive hours, you will be putting the coil in more trouble than is necessary.

My subjective review of the SSA Icon

So after quite a while, the suspension has broken in a fair bit. The sound is very pleasant; it's both controlled without being sharp. Someone asked on another forum about comparisons to other subs, more specifically, the IDQ's. I would recommend the Icon ahead of every ID product I have heard, which includes the IDMAX. I would put this sub up there with quite a few different top tier SQ subs that have good output as well. Keep in mind that how well it works for you will depend largely on your enclosure and other speakers in the system (as with most subs) but I think if you can do that even half right, you'll be very satisfied with the Icon. I almost wish they had gone with a single spider or maybe used slightly softer spiders from the get go. Originally, I think I would have said the Icon was above average. Now, I would say that it is great and only bested by a few products with considerably different (and more expensive) motors.

    SSA gone MYSPACE and Facebook??

Start a FaceBook group. That's where the cool kids are now.
  10. Unfortunately, that won't randomly play albums. It will just play each queued album one after the other.

    60inch MTX subwoofer

It's a shame they could never quite get it to do what they said it would.

    Havoc 18s

Yeah, there's a lot of great performance subs out there at extremely affordable prices. I think you'll have a lot of fun with the Havoc's. Paired with a sealed enclosure in the size you mentioned, I'm quite sure you'll find a lot of great output at low frequencies with good balance and "tightness". Should be a lot of fun.
  13. Foobar. I'll put together a simple configuration how-to when I get some time.

    Assasain 8 install complete!

Glad you got everything sorted out and are satisfied with it.
  15. What browser is this in? Are we talking about imbedded flash (ala YouTube) only, or externally loading video (in WMP, or RP, or something similar)?

    Havoc 18s

Assuming that's a sealed enclosure, you'll be in good shape.

    SSA vs RE SX

It would probably depend what the "same box" was, but they are two subs with different purposes.

Rolled my car trying to hit an Armadillo.

Probably the first thread title in a long time that made me laugh instantly. Hope you're alright.

    SPL Shootout - Winnipeg

    40 MLI-65's?
  20. DevilDriver

    Ok, it's comin.....

Glad that worked out for you. I thought that it would when we talked. 5 cubes is very good for an 18" of that nature.
  21. Without looking at things too deeply on my part, if there is still excursion to be had and you are not running into BL or Cms based power compression, then going larger will gain you more efficiency and more output. Being that you are using a bass-reflex enclosure, there is likely still some excursion available, particularly as you approach your tuning frequency. I can't say so for sure without having looked at this more closely, though. Give me time in that respect, if you're unaware of how to do so yourself.
  22. I don't see why not. Go ahead and post them up.

    vent velocity to high?

Slot ports? Flares? What type of ports do you have?

    ICON 15s?

No problem. Be sure to post up and take some pictures once you get things going.

    ICON 15s?

That should be just fine. Lots of storage and sufficient charging capabilities.
