It would be easy if you were truly interested, sort of like the History of Jazz. Non music types and people who don't like jazz thought it was tough, I took it for a free study hall with good music. Thanks Sean. Simplified my point.

I want a couple of those HD amps. The Single-Cycle approach is similar in some respects to a Servo subwoofer...for those who have heard one, you know what that's like. Excellent potential in the HD line and apparently they are priced the same as the Slash series amplifiers....so why someone wouldn't buy the HD series is beyond me.

We face mostly the same challenges...there are a two English profs and one Computer Science professor I know of who thrive on failing students at every opportunity. But I figure you don't take a class like wine-testing because you want a good mark...you take it because you want to learn more about wine-testing. I see your point, though. I would guess that is Lucy but I'll be damned if I know what era that was from. I even tried to look it up on Wikipedia and IMDB with no luck.

I don't see how any class related to wine could be more difficult than other applied sciences...but I do see how it would surprise people by being more difficult than they anticipate. And the lessons you learn would hold no less value just because the class is difficult. I think you should take it, Jim. We don't have enough classes like that here.

My subjective review of the SSA Icon
DevilDriver replied to DevilDriver's topic in Sound Solutions Audio (SSA®)
There was a brief discussion of this over on DIYMA a little while ago. Basically, there is this aura that surrounds Image Dynamics products that has inflated its reputation well beyond its performance. That's not to say that the IDQ or the IDMAX is a bad driver....just that a product like the Icon can easily approach and exceed either of them, in my opinion....particularly the IDQ. -
Am I the only one who sees the parallels between this and people who are new to the forum? Guess I've been on the internetz too long.

Me too. I want to go down to that one at Orfield Labs and have a seat. Or even better, have a listen!

I should be studying, too, but I'm too busy on AudioJunkies.

Uh, they dont charge you until the item ships. Ive had one on pre order since they announced the pricing discount of the 1st 25 they are selling and have never been charged a dime. They do, in fact, charge people during pre-order although the basis on which they do so seems to be hit or miss. Aside from documented proof of this on previous pre-orders, there was someone on AVSForum just a day or two ago who was charged when he pre-ordered the 13.av2 and called them up to cancel his pre-order and receive a refund when the release date got pushed back again. He was told they would be available sometime in March. Which means the release date has been changed....again. Keep in mind they originally targetted June of 2007 as the release date. It's been changed a few times but at last they had a fixed date in January....and then that was changed to February 18th...and now it's been changed to sometime in March? What's even more amazing is that someone will try to justify this.

Agreed, Jim. Might have a nap on campus this morning, but probably not.

Are there any of us here that are happy with our GM products?

Man there are a lot of Canadians hre. Welcome!

I agree with you, on both points. I am surprised, pleasantly so as well. Indeed. That's the only reason I even mentioned it.

Yikes! That's pretty crazy. Arsenals I presume.

I'm not as big on Steve Meade as many are, but I have to give him credit for calling someone on their shit. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...st&p=336475 http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...st&p=336477 http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...st&p=336539

You would really have to starve the horns and I'm not sure that would make having horns worthwhile. If you did a pair of SDX7's per channel or more, you would be fine. It would become more manageable if you push your high-pass crossover point lower (and increase the slope) but you're running out of bandwidth on those mini's pretty quickly at that point. Honestly, people spend forever looking for a driver that will pair with a horn easily in a car. In pro audio, it's simple because you do a 10"+ efficient driver in a large enclosure and you're good. But it's a lot harder in a vehicle. I'd take a look at some of the drivers people have used before. There are a few pro audio drivers that have been used before and one in particular that Jason Winslow and a few others thought highly of...might have been B&C but I can't remember. If I do, I'll let you know.

The compliance of the high-roll surrounds isn't great either, in my opinion. Of course, it's not really their technology. All the problems they've been through don't matter to me, but when I read the descriptions on their website...my stomach just turns. Not everyone has to be inventive or ingenious, but they do have to be honest....

The challenge is efficiency. The SDX7's low(er) efficiency (compared to the CD1's) makes it a very poor match at the crossover frequency. While the SDX7's throw makes for a lot of output at low frequenices, the throw is of almost no advantage up top where excursion is very minimal and efficiency really takes over. You would have to dump a ton of power into the SDX7's to approach the output the CD1's are capable of in that range. You could run the SDX7's up there without much of a problem, particularly if you've got some EQ to use if necessary (really necessary for any driver in any car) but they will be a tough match with horns. This is why you typically see 8" high efficiency drivers paired with horns...because they really are an easier match.

I have wanted one since I first saw prototypes a couple years ago. And the name.....

Tough call, Aaron. I'm a fiscal conservative but a social liberal. I like some of the things the Dems have been saying because they're the typical "feel good" bs but I just worry that all they are talking about is throwing a ton of money out the window. On the other hand, I have a hard time consciously accepting many of the Republican candidates. I didn't mind Edwards when he was running but there's still that fiscal problem... It sounds crazy, but people like Ron Paul are almost viable because their wild streaks are easily tamed in the White House when the senate disagrees. At the same time, I don't know if the senate is ready for a President who wants to reshape most of the financial policies. As far as what impacts me here at home, can we get Bush in there again? That's been nothing but great for us up North.

The intial offering will be a 12" with D2 coils only.

I didn't think anything more than 2GB of RAM worked on XP...pretty sure you have to upgrade to Vista to use that extra 1GB. Could be wrong, though.
