Hello guys, new to this forum. Im in search of good midbass to fill between my mids and sub. Ive read many many many posts and articles on midbass, here and on a lot of other car audio forums. I am not an electrical engineer/car audio guru of any sorts, but i like to do my own installs. It seems to me that the subject of midbass is the most difficult to understand for us "noobs". Most threads start simple "with what is a good midbass driver" then goes into a debate with the much more advanced audio guys on octaves, peaks, kiple ratings , Q's, Vas, etc... I realize that saying "brand x driver is definately what you need' is impossible to do with all variables involved in todays car audio. Does any one know where a "midbass-challenged" person like myself can go to get remedial-preschool level explinations? Or advice on my level of install? I like SQ but not a total audiophile, just want well rounded sound. Im not going to enter any sound challenges or anything. lol Sorry to muddy up the waters here with such a noobie question, but hey we are all noobies at some point in time, right? Thank you

Copy, ill try the speaker mounting reinforcement. And pull the isolators.... I haven't because there is a buzzing noise without them. A buddy said to run the rca with some insulation through the dash to keep the power away from them... BTW I did replace the infinity 4 channel with a fosgate power 4 channel....no real noticeable difference at all.

lol, dont think the link to page 2 was needed, but thanks. I'm just saying, before the OP starts adding more midbass drivers, I think revisiting the install could easily fix the problem completely. Hes got the power & the gear to have decent mid bass, there is no reason to need more drivers. I read through every page (quickly I might add) and I saw a ton of great information but nothing stressing the importance of install. Who is to say that if the OP added more midbass drivers with similar install (no offense man) the issue would not still remain? I know its hard to really be sure of the advice given here on how to help someone when you cant be there to hear the system os see it for your self. Kinda like if someone asked me medical advice on here with out actually seeing the patient... I have Fosgate Power T1652-S's in all 4 corners of a crew cab pick up. I have them in the stock locations. I have not deadened anywhere yet. I dont have the mid bass im looking for, so i had to turn the crossover on my subs to 250Hz in order to fill that void. Thats pretty much the readers digest version - Impious and many others here have explained the techniques of todays stereo to an old schooler like me lol. I appreciate any and all viewpoints. I havent boughten any midbass drivers as of yet, because everybody is trying to make sure ive gotten these components set up right. Audiophyle, if you have any ideas please lemme know, im open to any suggestions because im sure i dont have these high dollar components set up to thier fullest potential...

Hopfully i'll be getting to the install part soon. I've learned alot from the members here, read countless threads on same subject. Im also researching moving the mids to the kicks, or sealed door panel pod with the 8" midbass driver, or IB in the door for either of those... Im doing as much research as possible to buy and install it once so i dont have to keep changing it around.

Thank you Impious, I'm still thinking of a creative way to fit a sundown amp in there. If I do go with the anarchys, they are 8ohm correct? If the amp only shows 4ohm rms Watts, what is the expected power when running 8ohm speakers?
-
What would removing the ground loop isolators do? Are they possibly flitering out some of the sound frequencies I've been looking for?
-
impious, what about the HiFonics ZXi40.4? Is the band pass on that amp suitable for midrange frequencies?
-
I wouldnt think so either... Impious, what else do you think i would be able to use as an effective bandpass? Ive looked at the sundown audio 100.4 amp (many times) the only problem is that its too long, at 19", it wont fit under my seat. Otherwise it would be perfect for midbass. Ive looked at the Fosgate 3sixty, but that's $500 alone. I was considering just setting the amp for the midbass drivers on low-pass at 250Hz and just letting it roll off at the lower end? While my subs will be set at 60Hz...
-
It has the 3 "hi-all-low" choices and the adjustable.crossover...
-
I believe the only thing my current deck (JVC KW-XG700) close to a lopass output is the sub RCA. The amp had both a hi or low setting. Would this work or would the sub channel be too low?
-
That would be a looong story LOL. Besides this is your thread sandt8, I don't wanna hijack it. Impious is walking me through a midbass set up on my thread. I'm looking for some strong midbass drivers that have good output and ive heard about anarchy, but never heard them personally.
-
Yes. That's how Sundown's multi-channel amplifiers have bandpass capabilities; the lowpass crossover and bandpass filter are used to create a bandpass filter. Impious, could you elaborate on how to do that? Because I'm looking for a bandpass filter, can't seem to find one. Short of spending serious coin on a fosgate 3sixty.2 just to cross over two speakers.....
-
Thank you Sandt3. I've narrowed choices to the ZR or the Anarchy. I don't have any shops near by to hear them so I have to read as much as I can. Will the Anarchy go up into the lower mid range area and deepen it up a bit?
-
Impious - How would you rate the Anarchy against the JL ZR800? I know this is opinion, but i take a lot of stock in your opinion.
-
I'm looking getting at a pair of those Anarchys for my doors. What is their mounting depth?
-
Reversing just the mid, or is reversing it at the amp ok? It'll do the tweeter too
-
I did the HP & 80Hz, there is VERY little bass. This is where I will leave it set. Just making sure for those that are gracious to help me with this, all I have in right now is the 6.5 mid from the T1652-S. In case some were under the impression I had mid bass drivers in.
-
What about when the filter is set at "All Pass" and the crossover set at 80Hz. Which direction will the crossover work, up or down? Or will it even work at all? Does the "all pass" filter setting turn the amps cross over off?
-
@ Impious - I forgot to include the crossover settings on the 4channel, which while i was doing the HP switching you advised, i noticed that the settings were changed all around. I think "little fingers" must of been playing with them. The amp has pass filters, a 0db - 6db bass boost, and a 32Hz -80Hz-320Hz crossover dial for each side. I turned the bass boosts to 0db and the crossovers in the middle of 80Hz & 320Hz,. I set the pass filters back to Full, because at HP there was no bass at all. With the adjustments now matching on both sides it sounds much better. Still not as much bass as stock speakers, but much better quality.

I been searching for sound shows in PHX, but crap, gotta work that day. Where is a good place to keep up on that kind of stuff here? Ive been keeping a close eye on the New Times, but dont see anything. Maybe the heat is a deterrent - lol -
Impious - Its a JVC KW-XG700. On the first page after you asked me to give you all the info on my set up, i listed everything the way it is now. Its a long post, i could repost it again if you'd like me too? I just had a thought, could the ground loop isolators or the line driver be having have a negative effect on the sound, specifically the midbass frequencies? I will go outside now and switch the filter settings around, i never thought of that because of the in line crossover.... Glad im asking these questions here, thank you.

I reversed the polarity on one side of the components at the amp ( with the subs off) there was minimal difference, to me at least. When i open a door and stand outside of the truck there is no real midbass sound. You can hear the bassline in the music of course, but it sounds like a 6x9 with "bass blockers" on it. The supplied crossover doesnt have any adjustments on the mid side. According to the spec sheet the frequency response for the mid is "55Hz - 22kHz". There is nothing that ive found showing what the frequency of the crossover is. I have the filter on the 4channel amp set to "All Pass", and the Deck EQ Bass level maxed at 6 (mids at 5, Hi's at 6.)
-
I triple checked the wireing on all speakers and amps and deck for phase, bad wires, bad grounds, shorts etc... ive listened to the speakers with the subs off, they have very very little bass. They have awesome clarity though, just minimal bass...way less than stock speakers. I have them crossed over with the supplied box it came with.
-
Is there a such of thing as an "adjustable narrow band pass crossover" then?? lol
-
So I'm at least in the same ballpark then? Good, ive been reading up on cross overs. Enough to find out that narrow band pass ones are complicated. Is there anywhere I could just buy them?
